1 Thus says the LORD: For three crimes of Moab, and for four, I will not revoke my word; Because he burned to ashes the bones of Edom's king,1 Yahweh says this: For the three crimes, the four crimes of Moab, I have made my decree and will notrelent: because they have burnt the bones of the king of Edom to ash,
2 I will send fire upon Moab, to devour the castles of Kerioth; Moab shall meet death amid uproar and shouts and trumpet blasts.2 I shal send fire down into Moab to devour the palaces of Kerioth, and Moab will die in the tumult, amidwar cries and the blare of trumpets;
3 I will root out the judge from her midst, and her princes I will slay with him, says the LORD.3 I shal destroy the ruler there and slaughter al the chief men there with him, says Yahweh.
4 Thus says the LORD: For three crimes of Judah, and for four, I will not revoke my word; Because they spurned the law of the LORD, and did not keep his statutes; Because the lies which their fathers followed have led them astray,4 Yahweh says this: For the three crimes, the four crimes of Judah, I have made my decree and wil notrelent: because they have despised Yahweh's law and not kept his commandments, since their Falsehoods,which their ancestors followed, have led them astray,
5 I will send fire upon Judah, to devour the castles of Jerusalem.5 I shal send fire down on Judah to devour the palaces of Jerusalem.
6 Thus says the LORD: For three crimes of Israel, and for four, I will not revoke my word; Because they sell the just man for silver, and the poor man for a pair of sandals.6 Yahweh says this: For the three crimes, the four crimes of Israel, I have made my decree and wil notrelent: because they have sold the upright for silver and the poor for a pair of sandals,
7 They trample the heads of the weak into the dust of the earth, and force the lowly out of the way. Son and father go to the same prostitute, profaning my holy name.7 because they have crushed the heads of the weak into the dust and thrust the rights of the oppressedto one side, father and son sleeping with the same girl and thus profaning my holy name,
8 Upon garments taken in pledge they recline beside any altar; And the wine of those who have been fined they drink in the house of their god.8 lying down beside every altar on clothes acquired as pledges, and drinking the wine of the people theyhave fined in the house of their god.
9 Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorites before them, who were as tall as the cedars, and as strong as the oak trees. I destroyed their fruit above, and their roots beneath.9 Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them, he who was as tal as the cedars, as strong as theoaks; I who destroyed his fruit above ground and his roots below.
10 It was I who brought you up from the land of Egypt, and who led you through the desert for forty years, to occupy the land of the Amorites:10 It was I who brought you up from Egypt and for forty years led you through the desert to takepossession of the Amorite's country;
11 I who raised up prophets among your sons, and nazirites among your young men. Is this not so, O men of Israel? says the LORD.11 I who raised up prophets from your sons and Nazirites from your young men. Israelites, is this nottrue? -declares Yahweh!
12 But you gave the nazirites wine to drink, and commanded the prophets not to prophesy.12 But you have made the Nazirite drink wine and given orders to the prophets, 'Do not prophesy.'
13 Beware, I will crush you into the ground as a wagon crushes when laden with sheaves.13 Very wel ! Like a cart overloaded with sheaves I shall crush you where you stand;
14 Flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong man shall not retain his strength; The warrior shall not save his life,14 flight wil be cut off for the swift, the strong will have no chance to exert his strength nor the warrior beable to save his life;
15 nor the bowman stand his ground; The swift of foot shall not escape, nor the horseman save his life.15 the archer wil not stand his ground, the swift of foot wil not escape, nor will the horseman save hislife;
16 And the most stouthearted of warriors shall flee naked on that day, says the LORD.16 even the bravest of warriors will jettison his arms and run away, that day! -declares Yahweh!
