Jeremiah 47

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 This is the word that came from the LORD to the prophet Jeremiah concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh attacked Gaza:	1 Parole de Yahvé qui fut adressée au prophète Jérémie sur les Philistins, avant que Pharaon nefrappe Gaza:
2 Thus says the LORD: Behold: waters are rising from the north, a torrent in flood; It shall flood the land and all that is in it, the cities and their people. All the people of the land set up a wailing cry.	2 Ainsi parle Yahvé. Voici les eaux qui montent du Nord, elles deviennent un fleuve débordant quisubmerge le pays avec ce qu'il contient, les villes avec leurs habitants. Les hommes crient, ils gémissent tous leshabitants du pays,
3 They hear the stamping hooves of his steeds, the rattling chariots, the rumbling wheels. Fathers turn not to save their children; their hands fall helpless	3 au martèlement des sabots de ses chevaux, au vacarme de ses chars, au fracas de ses roues. Lespères ne regardent plus leurs enfants, leurs mains défaillent,
4 Because of the day which has come to ruin all the Philistines, And cut off from Tyre and Sidon the last of their allies. Yes, the LORD is destroying the Philistines, the remnant from the coasts of Caphtor.	4 à cause du Jour qui est arrivé où tous les Philistins seront anéantis, où Tyr et Sidon verront abattrejusqu'à leurs derniers alliés. Oui, Yahvé anéantit les Philistins, le reste de l'île de Kaphtor.
5 Gaza is shaved bald, Ashkelon is reduced to silence; Ashdod, the remnant of their strength, how long will you gash yourself?	5 La tonsure a été infligée à Gaza, Ashqelôn est réduite au silence. Toi qui restes de leur vallée,jusques à quand te feras-tu des incisions?
6 Alas, sword of the LORD! how long till you find rest? Return into your scabbard; stop, be still!	6 Hélas, épée de Yahvé, jusques à quand seras-tu sans repos? Rentre en ton fourreau, arrête, calme-toi! --
7 How can it find rest when the LORD has commanded it? Against Ashkelon and the seashore he has appointed it.	7 Comment se reposerait-elle quand Yahvé lui a donné des ordres? Ashqelôn et le rivage de la mer,voilà les buts fixés.
