Jeremiah 39

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 In the tenth month of the ninth year of Zedekiah, king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and all his army marched against Jerusalem and besieged it.	1 La neuvième année de Sédécias, roi de Juda, le dixième mois, Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone,vint attaquer Jérusalem avec toute son armée et ils en firent le siège.
2 On the ninth day of the fourth month, in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, a breach was made in the city's defenses.	2 La onzième année de Sédécias, au quatrième mois, le neuf du mois, une brèche fut pratiquée dansla ville.
3 All the princes of the king of Babylon came and occupied the middle gate: Nergal-sharezer, of Simmagir, the chief officer, Nebushazban, the high dignitary, and all the other princes of the king of Babylon. . . .	3 Tous les officiers du roi de Babylone, ayant fait leur entrée, établirent leurs quartiers à la porte duMilieu: Nergalsaréser, Samgar-Nébo, Sar-Sekim, haut dignitaire, Nergalsaréser, grand mage, et tous les autresofficiers du roi de Babylone --
4 When Zedekiah, king of Judah, saw them, he and all his warriors fled by night, leaving the city on the Royal Garden Road through the gate between the two walls. He went in the direction of the Arabah,	4 Dès qu'ils les virent, Sédécias, roi de Juda, et tous ses guerriers s'enfuirent et sortirent de la ville,de nuit, vers le jardin du roi, par la porte entre les deux murs; ils prirent le chemin de la Araba.
5 but the Chaldean army pursued them, and overtook and captured Zedekiah in the desert near Jericho. He was brought to Riblah, in the land of Hamath, where Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, pronounced sentence upon him.	5 Mais les troupes chaldéennes les poursuivirent et atteignirent Sédécias dans les plaines de Jéricho.L'ayant fait prisonnier, on l'emmena à Ribla, au pays de Hamat, auprès de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, quile fit passer en jugement.
6 As Zedekiah looked on, his sons were slain at Riblah by order of the king of Babylon, who slew also all the nobles of Judah.	6 Le roi de Babylone fit égorger à Ribla les fils de Sédécias sous ses yeux. De même, le roi deBabylone fit égorger tous les notables de Juda.
7 He then blinded Zedekiah and bound him in chains to bring him to Babylon.	7 Puis il creva les yeux de Sédécias et le mit aux fers pour l'emmener à Babylone.
8 The Chaldeans set fire to the king's palace and the houses of the people, and demolished the walls of Jerusalem.	8 Les Chaldéens incendièrent le palais royal et les maisons des particuliers; ils abattirent lesremparts de Jérusalem.
9 Nebuzaradan, chief of the bodyguard, deported to Babylon the rest of the people left in the city, those who had deserted to him, and the rest of the workmen.	9 Nebuzaradân, commandant de la garde, déporta à Babylone le reste de la population laissée dans laville, les transfuges qui s'étaient rendus à lui et le reste des artisans.
10 But some of the poor who had no property were left in the land of Judah by Nebuzaradan, chief of the bodyguard, and were given at the same time vineyards and farms.	10 Au contraire, Nebuzaradân, commandant de la garde, laissa au pays de Juda ceux du peuple quiétaient pauvres et ne possédaient rien; en même temps, il leur distribua des vignes et des champs.
11 Concerning Jeremiah, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, gave the following orders through Nebuzaradan, chief of the bodyguard:	11 Au sujet de Jérémie, Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, avait donné cet ordre à Nebuzaradân,commandant de la garde:
12 "Take him and look after him; let no harm befall him, but treat him as he himself requests."	12 "Prends-le, aie l'oeil sur lui, ne lui fais aucun mal, mais traite-le comme il te le demandera."
13 Thereupon Nebuzaradan, chief of the bodyguard, and Nebushazban, the high dignitary, and Nergal-sharezer, the chief officer, and all the nobles of the king of Babylon,	13 Il avait confié cette mission à (Nebuzaradân, commandant de la garde, ) Nebushazbân, hautdignitaire, Nergalsaréser, grand mage, et tous les officiers du roi de Babylone. --
14 had Jeremiah taken out of the quarters of the guard, and entrusted to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, to be brought home. And so he remained among the people.	14 Ils envoyèrent des gens pour tirer Jérémie de la cour de garde et le confièrent à Godolias, filsd'Ahiqam, fils de Shaphân, pour le conduire à la maison, et il demeura au milieu du peuple.
15 While Jeremiah was still imprisoned in the quarters of the guard, the word of the LORD came to him:	15 Tandis que Jérémie était enfermé dans la cour de garde, la parole de Yahvé lui avait été adresséeen ces termes:
16 Go, tell this to Ebed-melech the Cushite: Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am now fulfilling the words I spoke against this city, for evil and not for good; and this before your very eyes.	16 Va-t'en dire au Kushite Ebed-Mélek: Ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d'Israël. Voici, je vaisaccomplir contre cette ville mes paroles chargées de malheur et non de bonheur. Ce jour-là, elles se réaliserontsous tes yeux.
17 But on that day I will rescue you, says the LORD; you shall not be handed over to the men of whom you are afraid.	17 Mais je te délivrerai ce jour-là -- oracle de Yahvé -- et tu ne seras pas livré aux mains des gensqui te font trembler.
18 I will make certain that you escape and do not fall by the sword. Your life shall be spared as booty, because you trusted in me, says the LORD.	18 Oui, assurément je te ferai échapper: tu ne tomberas pas sous l'épée, tu auras ta vie comme butin,car en moi tu as mis ta confiance, oracle de Yahvé.
