Jeremiah 39

1 In the tenth month of the ninth year of Zedekiah, king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and all his army marched against Jerusalem and besieged it.	1 El noveno año de Sedecías, rey de Judá, en el décimo mes, Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, llegó hasta Jerusalén con todo su ejército, y la sitiaron.
2 On the ninth day of the fourth month, in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, a breach was made in the city's defenses.	2 El undécimo año de Sedecías, el día nueve del cuarto mes, se abrió una brecha en la ciudad.
3 All the princes of the king of Babylon came and occupied the middle gate: Nergal-sharezer, of Simmagir, the chief officer, Nebushazban, the high dignitary, and all the other princes of the king of Babylon. . . .	3 Entonces entraron todos los jefes del rey de Babilonia, y se instalaron en la puerta del Medio: Nergalsaréser, Samgarnebó, Sarsequím, jefe de los eunucos, Nergalsaréser, gran mago, y todos los otros jefes del rey de Babilonia.
4 When Zedekiah, king of Judah, saw them, he and all his warriors fled by night, leaving the city on the Royal Garden Road through the gate between the two walls. He went in the direction of the Arabah,	4 Al ver esto, Sedecías, rey de Judá, y todos los hombres de guerra huyeron de la ciudad, saliendo de noche por el camino del jardín del rey, por la puerta entre las dos murallas, y tomaron el camino de la Arabá.
5 but the Chaldean army pursued them, and overtook and captured Zedekiah in the desert near Jericho. He was brought to Riblah, in the land of Hamath, where Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, pronounced sentence upon him.	5 Las tropas de los caldeos los persiguieron, y alcanzaron a Sedecías en las estepas de Jericó. Lo apresaron y lo hicieron subir a Riblá, en el país de Jamat, ante Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y este dictó sentencia contra él.
6 As Zedekiah looked on, his sons were slain at Riblah by order of the king of Babylon, who slew also all the nobles of Judah.	6 El rey de Babilonia hizo degollar en Riblá a los hijos de Sedecías ante sus propios ojos, y también a todos los nobles de Judá.
7 He then blinded Zedekiah and bound him in chains to bring him to Babylon.	7 A Sedecías le sacó los ojos y lo ató con una doble cadena de bronce, para llevarlo a Babilonia.
8 The Chaldeans set fire to the king's palace and the houses of the people, and demolished the walls of Jerusalem.	8 Los caldeos incendiaron la casa del rey y las casas del pueblo, y derribaron las murallas de Jerusalén.
9 Nebuzaradan, chief of the bodyguard, deported to Babylon the rest of the people left in the city, those who had deserted to him, and the rest of the workmen.	9 Nebuzaradán, comandante de la guardia, deportó a Babilonia al resto de la población que había quedado en la ciudad, a los desertores que se habían pasado a él, y al resto de los artesanos.
10 But some of the poor who had no property were left in the land of Judah by Nebuzaradan, chief of the bodyguard, and were given at the same time vineyards and farms.	10 Sólo a los más pobres entre el pueblo, a los que no poseían nada, Nebuzaradán, comandante de la guardia, los dejó en el país de Judá, asignándoles en aquel día viñas y terrenos.
11 Concerning Jeremiah, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, gave the following orders through Nebuzaradan, chief of the bodyguard:	11 Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, había dado esta orden a Nebuzaradán, comandante de la guardia, acerca de Jeremías:
12 "Take him and look after him; let no harm befall him, but treat him as he himself requests."	12 «Tómalo, mira por él, y no le hagas ningún mal, sino trátalo como él te diga».
13 Thereupon Nebuzaradan, chief of the bodyguard, and Nebushazban, the high dignitary, and Nergal-sharezer, the chief officer, and all the nobles of the king of Babylon,	13 Nebuzaradán, comandante de la guardia, Nebusazbán, jefe de los eunucos, Nergalsaréser, jefe de los magos, y todos los altos oficiales del rey de Babilonia,
14 had Jeremiah taken out of the quarters of the guard, and entrusted to Gedaliah, son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, to be brought home. And so he remained among the people.	14 mandaron sacar a Jeremías del patio de la guardia, y se lo encomendaron a Godolías, hijo de Ajicam, hijo de Safán, para que los dejara ir a su casa. Así Jeremías permaneció en medio del pueblo.
15 While Jeremiah was still imprisoned in the quarters of the guard, the word of the LORD came to him:	15 La palabra del Señor llegó a Jeremías, mientras estaba detenido en el patio de la guardia, en estos términos:
16 Go, tell this to Ebed-melech the Cushite: Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am now fulfilling the words I spoke against this city, for evil and not for good; and this before your very eyes.	16 Ve a decir a Ebed Mélec, el cusita: Así habla el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: Yo voy a cumplir mis palabras acerca de esta ciudad, para mal y no para bien; tú las tendrás presentes en aquel día.
17 But on that day I will rescue you, says the LORD; you shall not be handed over to the men of whom you are afraid.	17 Pero yo te libraré en aquel día –oráculo del Señor– y tú no serás entregado en las manos de los hombres que temes.
18 I will make certain that you escape and do not fall by the sword. Your life shall be spared as booty, because you trusted in me, says the LORD.	18 porque ciertamente yo te dejaré escapar, y no caerás bajo la espada; tu vida será para ti un botín, porque has confiado en mí –oráculo del Señor–.
