Isaiah 24

1 Lo, the LORD empties the land and lays it waste; he turns it upside down, scattering its inhabitants:	1 Ecco, il Signore spezza la terra, la devasta, ne sconvolge la superficie e ne disperde gli abitanti.
2 Layman and priest alike, servant and master, The maid as her mistress, the buyer as the seller, The lender as the borrower, the creditor as the debtor.	2 Avverrà così al popolo come al sacerdote, allo schiavo come al padrone, alla schiava come alla padrona, a chi compera come a chi vende, a chi presta come a chi prende a prestito, a chi dà in usura come a chi prende in usura.
3 The earth is utterly laid waste, utterly stripped, for the LORD has decreed this thing.	3 Sarà completamente spezzata la terra, sarà completamente saccheggiata, perché il Signore ha pronunciato questa parola.
4 The earth mourns and fades, the world languishes and fades; both heaven and earth languish.	4 E' in lutto, langue la terra, deperisce e langue l'universo, deperiscono cielo e terra.
5 The earth is polluted because of its inhabitants, who have transgressed laws, violated statutes, broken the ancient covenant.	5 La terra è stata profanata sotto i piedi dei suoi abitanti, perché hanno trasgredito le leggi, hanno violato il precetto, hanno infranto il patto eterno.
6 Therefore a curse devours the earth, and its inhabitants pay for their guilt; Therefore they who dwell on earth turn pale, and few men are left.	6 Per questo la maledizione divora la terra e i suoi abitanti ne pagano il fio; per questo sono consumati gli abitanti della terra, rimarranno solo pochi uomini.
7 The wine mourns, the vine languishes, all the merry-hearted groan.	7 Il mosto è insipido, la vigna languisce, tutti i cuori gioiosi gemono.
8 Stilled are the cheerful timbrels, ended the shouts of the jubilant, stilled is the cheerful harp.	8 E' cessato il giubilo dei tamburelli, lo strepito dei gaudenti è finito, il giubilo della cetra è cessato.
9 They cannot sing and drink wine; strong drink is bitter to those who partake of it.	9 Non si beve più vino cantando, la bevanda inebriante è amara per i suoi bevitori.
10 Broken down is the city of chaos, shut against entry, every house.	10 E' distrutta la città del caos, l'ingresso di tutte le case è sbarrato.
11 In the streets they cry out for lack of wine; all joy has disappeared and cheer has left the land.	11 Si grida per le piazze, perché non c'è vino; ogni gioia è scomparsa, dalla terra è bandita la gioia.

16 From the end of the earth we hear songs: "Splendor to the Just One!" But I said, "I am wasted, wasted away. Woe is me! The traitors betray: with treachery have the traitors betrayed!	16 Dall'estremità della terra udiamo degl'inni: Onore al Giusto!". Ma io dico: "Sono perduto, sono perduto, guai a me! I perfidi operano perfidamente, i perfidi agiscono con perfidia!".
17 Terror, pit, and trap are upon you, inhabitant of the earth;	17 Terrore, fossa e tranello ti sovrastano, o abitante della terra!
18 He who flees at the sound of terror will fall into the pit; He who climbs out of the pit will be caught in the trap. For the windows on high will be opened and the foundations of the earth will shake.	18 Chi sfugge al grido di terrore cadrà nella fossa, e chi uscirà dalla fossa cadrà nel tranello, perché si sono aperte in alto le cateratte e si sono scosse le fondamenta della terra.
19 The earth will burst asunder, the earth will be shaken apart, the earth will be convulsed.	19 La terra si schianta tutta, la terra si agita violentemente, la terra traballa senza sosta.
