Sirach 43

1 The clear vault of the sky shines forth like heaven itself, a vision of glory.	1 Vanto del cielo è il limpido firmamento, spettacolo celeste in una visione di gloria.
2 The orb of the sun, resplendent at its rising: what a wonderful work of the Most High!	2 Il sole, quando appare nel suo sorgere, proclama: «Che meraviglia è l’opera dell’Altissimo!».
3 At noon it seethes the surface of the earth, and who can bear its fiery heat?	3 A mezzogiorno dissecca la terra e di fronte al suo calore chi può resistere?
4 Like a blazing furnace of solid metal, it sets the mountains aflame with its rays; By its fiery darts the land is consumed; the eyes are dazzled by its light.	4 Si soffia nella fornace nei lavori a caldo, ma il sole brucia i monti tre volte tanto; emettendo vampe di fuoco, facendo brillare i suoi raggi, abbaglia gli occhi.
5 Great indeed is the LORD who made it, at whose orders it urges on its steeds.	5 Grande è il Signore che lo ha creato e con le sue parole ne affretta il corso.
6 The moon, too, that marks the changing times, governing the seasons, their lasting sign,	6 Anche la luna, sempre puntuale nelle sue fasi, regola i mesi e indica il tempo.
7 By which we know the feast days and fixed dates, this light-giver which wanes in its course:	7 Viene dalla luna l’indicazione di ogni festa, fonte di luce che decresce fino a scomparire.
8 As its name says, each month it renews itself; how wondrous in this change!	8 Da essa il mese prende nome, mirabilmente crescendo secondo le sue fasi. È un’insegna per le schiere in alto, splendendo nel firmamento del cielo.
9 The beauty, the glory, of the heavens are the stars that adorn with their sparkling the heights of God,	9 Bellezza del cielo è la gloria degli astri, ornamento che brilla nelle altezze del Signore.
10 At whose command they keep their place and never relax in their vigils. A weapon against the flood waters stored on high, lighting up the firmament by its brilliance,	10 Stanno agli ordini di colui che è santo, secondo il suo decreto, non abbandonano le loro postazioni di guardia.
11 Behold the rainbow! Then bless its Maker, for majestic indeed is its splendor;	11 Osserva l’arcobaleno e benedici colui che lo ha fatto: quanto è bello nel suo splendore!
12 It spans the heavens with its glory, this bow bent by the mighty hand of God.	12 Avvolge il cielo con un cerchio di gloria, lo hanno teso le mani dell’Altissimo.
13 His rebuke marks out the path for the lightning, and speeds the arrows of his judgment to their goal.	13 Con il suo comando fa cadere la neve e fa guizzare i fulmini secondo il suo giudizio:
14 At it the storehouse is opened, and like vultures the clouds hurry forth.	14 per esso si aprono i tesori celesti e le nubi volano via come uccelli.
15 In his majesty he gives the storm its power and breaks off the hailstones.	15 Con la sua potenza egli condensa le nuvole e si sminuzzano i chicchi di grandine.
16 The thunder of his voice makes the earth writhe; before his might the mountains quake.	16 e al suo apparire sussultano i monti; secondo il suo volere soffia lo scirocco,
17 A word from him drives on the south wind, the angry north wind, the hurricane and the storm.
18 He sprinkles the snow like fluttering birds; it comes to settle like swarms of locusts.	18 L’occhio ammira la bellezza del suo candore e il cuore stupisce nel vederla fioccare.
19 Its shining whiteness blinds the eyes, the mind is baffled by its steady fall.	19 Riversa sulla terra la brina come sale, che gelandosi forma punte di spine.
20 He scatters frost like so much salt; it shines like blossoms on the thornbush.	20 Soffia la gelida tramontana, sull’acqua si condensa il ghiaccio; esso si posa sull’intera massa d’acqua, che si riveste come di corazza.
21 Cold northern blasts he sends that turn the ponds to lumps of ice. He freezes over every body of water, and clothes each pool with a coat of mail.	21 Egli divora i monti e brucia il deserto; come fosse fuoco, inaridisce l’erba.
22 When the mountain growth is scorched with heat, and the flowering plains as though by flames,	22 Rimedio di tutto è un annuvolamento improvviso, l’arrivo della rugiada ristora dal caldo.
23 The dripping clouds restore them all, and the scattered dew enriches the parched land.	23 Con la sua parola egli ha domato l’abisso e vi ha piantato le isole.
24 His is the plan that calms the deep, and plants the islands in the sea.	24 I naviganti del mare ne descrivono i pericoli, a sentirli con i nostri orecchi restiamo stupiti;
25 Those who go down to the sea tell part of its story, and when we hear them we are thunderstruck;	25 là ci sono opere singolari e stupende, esseri viventi di ogni specie e mostri marini.
26 In it are his creatures, stupendous, amazing, all kinds of life, and the monsters of the deep.	26 Per lui il suo messaggero compie un felice cammino, e per la sua parola tutto sta insieme.
27 For him each messenger succeeds, and at his bidding accomplishes his will.	27 Potremmo dire molte cose e mai finiremmo, ma la conclusione del discorso sia: «Egli è il tutto!».
28 More than this we need not add; let the last word be, he is all in all!	28 Come potremmo avere la forza per lodarlo? Egli infatti, il Grande, è al di sopra di tutte le sue opere.
29 Let us praise him the more, since we cannot fathom him, for greater is he than all his works;	29 Il Signore è terribile e molto grande, meravigliosa è la sua potenza.
30 Awful indeed is the LORD'S majesty, and wonderful is his power.	30 Nel glorificare il Signore, esaltatelo quanto più potete, perché non sarà mai abbastanza. Nell’esaltarlo moltiplicate la vostra forza, non stancatevi, perché non finirete mai.
31 Lift up your voices to glorify the LORD, though he is still beyond your power to praise;	31 Chi lo ha contemplato e lo descriverà? Chi può magnificarlo come egli è?
32 Extol him with renewed strength, and weary not, though you cannot reach the end:	32 Vi sono molte cose nascoste più grandi di queste: noi contempliamo solo una parte delle sue opere.
33 For who can see him and describe him? or who can praise him as he is?	33 Il Signore infatti ha creato ogni cosa e ha dato la sapienza ai suoi fedeli.
34 Beyond these, many things lie hid; only a few of his works have we seen.
35 It is the LORD who has made all things, and to those who fear him he gives wisdom.
