1 The poor man's wisdom lifts his head high and sets him among princes.	1 La sapienza dell'umile lo innalzerà e lo farà sedere tra i grandi.
2 Praise not a man for his looks; despise not a man for his appearance.	2 Non lodare un uomo per la sua bellezza, e non disprezzare una persona per il suo aspetto.
3 Least is the bee among winged things, but she reaps the choicest of all harvests.	3 Piccola cosa tra i volatili è l'ape, eppure il suo frutto ha il primato della dolcezza.
4 Mock not the worn cloak and jibe at no man's bitter day: For strange are the works of the LORD, hidden from men his deeds.	4 Non ti gloriar mai del tuo vestito, non t'insuperbire quando sarai onorato; perchè soltanto le opere dell'Altissimo son maravigliose, le opere di lui son gloriose, nascoste, invisibili.
5 The oppressed often rise to a throne, and some that none would consider wear a crown.	5 Sederono sul trono molti tiranni, e portò il diadema colui al quale nessuno pensava.
6 The exalted often fall into utter disgrace; the honored are given into enemy hands.	6 Molti potenti sono stati profondamente umiliati, e chi era nella gloria fu dato in altrui potere.
7 Before investigating, find no fault; examine first, then criticize.	7 Non biasimare avanti d'esserti informato, quando ti sarai informato riprenderai con giustizia.
8 Before hearing, answer not, and interrupt no one in the middle of his speech.	8 Non rispondere prima d'aver ascoltato, e non interrompere l'altrui discorso.
9 Dispute not about what is not your concern; in the strife of the arrogant take no part.	9 Non contendere per cosa che non ti molesta, e non ti mettere a giudicar coi peccatori.
10 My son, why increase your cares, since he who is avid for wealth will not be blameless? Even if you run after it, you will never overtake it; however you seek it, you will not find it.	10 Figlio, non t'impicciare in molte cose: se diverrai ricco, non sarai immune da colpa; se andrai dietro (a molte) non ne porterai in fondo (una), ed anche fuggendo, non ti trarrai d'impaccio.
11 One may toil and struggle and drive, and fall short all the more.	11 C'è chi fatica, s'affretta e patisce, e, essendo empio, tanto meno arricchisce.
12 Another goes his way a weakling and a failure, with little strength and great misery-- Yet the eyes of the LORD look favorably upon him; he raises him free of the vile dust,	12 C'è invece un disgraziato bisognoso d'aiuto, privo d'ogni forza e ricco di miseria;
13 Lifts up his head and exalts him to the amazement of the many.	13 ma l'occhio di Dio lo guarda benignamente, lo solleva dalla sua umile condizione, gli fa alzare la testa, e molti ne restano ammirati e glorificano Dio.
14 Good and evil, life and death, poverty and riches, are from the LORD.	14 I beni e i mali, la vita e la morte, la povertà e la ricchezza vengono da Dio.
15 Wisdom and understanding and knowledge of affairs, love and virtuous paths are from the LORD.	15 La sapienza, la disciplina e la scienza della legge son da Dio, son da lui l'amore e le vie del bene.
16 Error and darkness were formed with sinners from their birth, and evil grows old with evildoers.	16 L'errore e le tenebre sono ingenite nei peccatori, e chi esulta nel male invecchia nella malizia.
17 The LORD'S gift remains with the just; his favor brings continued success.	17 Il dono di Dio rimane ai giusti, e il suo progresso avrà dei successi in eterno.
18 A man may become rich through a miser's life, and this is his allotted reward:	18 C'è chi arricchisce a forza di risparmi, ed ecco la parte che gli tocca in ricompensa:
19 When he says: "I have found rest, now I will feast on my possessions," He does not know how long it will be till he dies and leaves them to others.	19 che può dire: « Ho trovato riposo, ed ora mi godrò da solo i miei beni »
20 My son, hold fast to your duty, busy yourself with it, grow old while doing your task.	20 e non sa quanto tempo debba passare avanti che s'avvicini la morte, quando morrà lasciando tutto agli altri.
21 Admire not how sinners live, but trust in the LORD and wait for his light; For it is easy with the LORD suddenly, in an instant, to make a poor man rich.	21 Stai al tuo patto, di esso ragiona, e invecchia nell'adempimento di quanto t'è comandato.
22 God's blessing is the lot of the just man, and in due time his hopes bear fruit.	22 Non rimanere stupito dell'agire dei peccatori, ma confida in Dio e rimani al tuo posto;
23 Say not: "What do I need? What further pleasure can be mine?"	23 perché è facile davanti a Dio arricchire in un momento il povero.
24 Say not: "I am independent. What harm can come to me now?"	24 La benedizione di Dio s'affretta a ricompensare il giusto, e in breve ora fa fruttificare i suoi progressi.
25 The day of prosperity makes one forget adversity; the day of adversity makes one forget prosperity.	25 Non dire: « Di che ho bisogno? E quali beni potrò avere da qui in avanti? »
26 For it is easy with the LORD on the day of death to repay man according to his deeds.	26 Non dire: « Io basto a me stesso; e qual disgrazia ormai mi potrà, accadere? »
27 A moment's affliction brings forgetfulness of past delights; when a man dies, his life is revealed.	27 Nel giorno della felicità non ti dimenticare della sventura, e nel giorno della sventura non ti dimenticare della felicità.
28 Call no man happy before his death, for by how he ends, a man is known.	28 E' cosa facile a Dio, nel giorno della morte, rendere a ciascuno secondo la sua condotta.
29 Bring not every man into your house, for many are the snares of the crafty one;	29 Il male d'un'ora fa dimenticare i grandi piaceri, e alla fine dell'uomo le sue opere saranno svelate.
30 Though he seem like a bird confined in a cage, yet like a spy he will pick out the weak spots.	30 Non lodar nessuno avanti la sua morte, perchè l'uomo si conosce dai suoi figlioli.
31 The talebearer turns good into evil; with a spark he sets many coals afire.	31 Non menare in casa tua ogni sorta di persone, perchè son molte le insidie dell'ingannatore.
32 The evil man lies in wait for blood, and plots against your choicest possessions.	32 Come lo stomaco guasto rutta fetidi odori, come la pernice è attirata nella gabbia e il daino nel laccio, così fa il cuore del superbo, e come chi spia per vedere la caduta del prossimo.
33 Avoid a wicked man, for he breeds only evil, lest you incur a lasting stain.	33 Infatti, convertendo il bene in male, tende insidie, e alle doti migliori apporrà delle macchie.
34 Lodge a stranger with you, and he will subvert your course, and make a stranger of you to your own household.	34 Da una sola scintilla divamperà l'incendio, da un solo ingannatore saran moltiplicate le stragi; e l'uomo perverso attenta alla vita.
	35 Guardati dal corruttore, che ordisce guai, affinchè non abbia a tirarti addosso eterno scherno.
	36 Metti in casa uno straniero, ed egli ti metterà sottosopra e in tempesta, e ti alienerà dai tuoi.
