1 The poor man's wisdom lifts his head high and sets him among princes.	1 Az alantas fejét felemeli bölcsessége, és főemberek között juttat neki helyet.
2 Praise not a man for his looks; despise not a man for his appearance.	2 Ne dicsérd meg senki fiát szépsége miatt, és meg ne vess senkit sem külsejéért!
3 Least is the bee among winged things, but she reaps the choicest of all harvests.	3 Jelentéktelen a méh a repdesők között, de igen kiváló édesség a terméke.
4 Mock not the worn cloak and jibe at no man's bitter day: For strange are the works of the LORD, hidden from men his deeds.	4 Soha se dicsekedj öltözeteddel, és ne bízd el magad megtiszteltetésed napján, mert csak a Magasságbeli művei csodásak, s az ő tettei a dicsők, rejtettek és a láthatatlanok.
5 The oppressed often rise to a throne, and some that none would consider wear a crown.	5 Sokan jutottak alacsony sorból a trónra, s akire ügyet sem vetettek, feltette a koronát.
6 The exalted often fall into utter disgrace; the honored are given into enemy hands.	6 Sok magasrangút nyomtak el nagyon, és sok dicsőséges került mások kezébe.
7 Before investigating, find no fault; examine first, then criticize.	7 Ne kárhoztass senkit, mielőtt utána nem jártál, miután érdeklődtél, korholj igazság szerint.
8 Before hearing, answer not, and interrupt no one in the middle of his speech.	8 Ne adj választ, mielőtt meg nem hallgattál, és más beszéde alatt ne szólj közbe.
9 Dispute not about what is not your concern; in the strife of the arrogant take no part.	9 Ha a dolog nem illet téged, ne pereskedj, és ne állj oda a bűnösök perénél.
10 My son, why increase your cares, since he who is avid for wealth will not be blameless? Even if you run after it, you will never overtake it; however you seek it, you will not find it.	10 Fiam! Ne szaporítsd dolgaidat, mert ha így gazdagodsz, nem maradsz vétek nélkül! Ha törtetsz is utána, mégsem éred el, ha jársz is utána, mit sem találsz.
11 One may toil and struggle and drive, and fall short all the more.	11 Van gonosz, aki fárad, siet és töri magát, de annál kevésbé bővelkedik.
12 Another goes his way a weakling and a failure, with little strength and great misery-- Yet the eyes of the LORD look favorably upon him; he raises him free of the vile dust,	12 Van olyan, aki lankad és segítségre szorul, igen szűkölködik erőben, és bővelkedik szegénységben,
13 Lifts up his head and exalts him to the amazement of the many.	13 de Isten szeme kegyesen tekint rá, és felemeli alacsony helyzetéből, felmagasztalja fejét, úgyhogy sokan elámulnak rajta, és dicsérik Istent.
14 Good and evil, life and death, poverty and riches, are from the LORD.	14 Jó- és balsors, élet és halál, szegénység és gazdagság Istentől vannak.
15 Wisdom and understanding and knowledge of affairs, love and virtuous paths are from the LORD.	15 Bölcsesség, tudomány és törvénytudás Istennél van, őnála van a szeretet és a jók útjai.
16 Error and darkness were formed with sinners from their birth, and evil grows old with evildoers.	16 Tévedés és sötétség a bűnösökkel jött a világra, s akik szeretik a rosszat, meg is vénülnek a rosszban.
17 The LORD'S gift remains with the just; his favor brings continued success.	17 Isten adománya megmarad az igazaknál, és vállalkozását mindvégig siker koronázza.
18 A man may become rich through a miser's life, and this is his allotted reward:	18 Van, aki takarékosság útján gazdagodik, és ez a jutalmának osztályrésze.
19 When he says: "I have found rest, now I will feast on my possessions," He does not know how long it will be till he dies and leaves them to others.	19 Amikor azt mondja: »Nyugalmat találtam magamnak, most pedig magam fogyasztom javaimat!«
20 My son, hold fast to your duty, busy yourself with it, grow old while doing your task.	20 nem tudja, hogy az idő múlik, s a halál közeleg, másoknak hagy mindent, és meghal.
21 Admire not how sinners live, but trust in the LORD and wait for his light; For it is easy with the LORD suddenly, in an instant, to make a poor man rich.	21 Maradj hű szövetségedhez, és róla beszélj, parancsaid teljesítésében öregedj meg!
22 God's blessing is the lot of the just man, and in due time his hopes bear fruit.	22 Ne tarts a bűnösök cselekedeteivel, bízzál Istenben, és maradj helyeden,
23 Say not: "What do I need? What further pleasure can be mine?"	23 mert könnyű Isten szemében a szegényt egy pillanat alatt gazdaggá tenni.
24 Say not: "I am independent. What harm can come to me now?"	24 Isten áldása az igazat sietve jutalmazza, és haladása rövid óra alatt is gyümölcsöt terem.

26 For it is easy with the LORD on the day of death to repay man according to his deeds.	26 Ne mondd: »Van nekem elég!« és: »Miféle baj érhetne ezután?«
27 A moment's affliction brings forgetfulness of past delights; when a man dies, his life is revealed.	27 A jó napon ne feledkezz meg a rosszakról, és a rossz napon ne feledkezz meg a jókról!
28 Call no man happy before his death, for by how he ends, a man is known.	28 Mert könnyű Istennek, hogy kinek-kinek megfizessen útjai szerint a halála napján.
29 Bring not every man into your house, for many are the snares of the crafty one;	29 A rossz óra elfeledteti a nagy élvezetet, s az ember élete végén lesznek cselekedetei nyilvánvalókká.
30 Though he seem like a bird confined in a cage, yet like a spy he will pick out the weak spots.	30 Halála előtt senkit se dicsérj, mert a végén lehet az embert megismerni.
31 The talebearer turns good into evil; with a spark he sets many coals afire.	31 Ne vezess be akárkit a házadba, mert sokfélék a ravasznak fondorlatai;
32 The evil man lies in wait for blood, and plots against your choicest possessions.	32 hisz amint a romló belek bűzt árasztanak, és mint a fogolymadarat a verembe csalják, a kőszáli kecskét pedig csapdába, éppúgy a dölyfösök szíve is, mint a kém, lesi társa elestét.
33 Avoid a wicked man, for he breeds only evil, lest you incur a lasting stain.	33 A jót rosszra csavarja el a besúgó, és hibát fog rá kedvelt emberekre.
34 Lodge a stranger with you, and he will subvert your course, and make a stranger of you to your own household.	34 Egyetlen szikrából nagy tűz támad, egy ármányos sok vért ont, mert a gonosz ember vér után leselkedik. Óvakodj a vészthozó embertől, mert gonoszat forral, hogy gúny tárgyává ne tegyen téged örök időre. Fogadj be idegent házadba, majd földhöz vág, mint a forgószél, és elidegenít téged a hozzád tartozóktól!
