1 The poor man's wisdom lifts his head high and sets him among princes.	1 La saggezza dell'umile lo innalzerà, e farallo sedere nel consesso de' magnati.
2 Praise not a man for his looks; despise not a man for his appearance.	2 Non lodare un uomo per la sua avvenenza, e non disprezzare alcuno per quel, che di lui apparisce:
3 Least is the bee among winged things, but she reaps the choicest of all harvests.	3 Piccola cosa trai volatili è l'ape, ma il suo frutto ogni dolcezza sorpassa.
4 Mock not the worn cloak and jibe at no man's bitter day: For strange are the works of the LORD, hidden from men his deeds.	4 Non ti gloriare delle vestimenta, e non ti invanire quando sarai innalzato agli onori; perocché solo dell'Altissimo son mirabili le opere; e le opere di lui sono gloriose, e segrete, e non conosciute.
5 The oppressed often rise to a throne, and some that none would consider wear a crown.	5 Sederono in trono molti tiranni: e tal portò il diadema, a cui nissuno pensava.
6 The exalted often fall into utter disgrace; the honored are given into enemy hands.	6 Molti potenti caddero in grande oppressione; e i magnati furon dati in potere altrui.
7 Before investigating, find no fault; examine first, then criticize.	7 Non biasimare nissuno prima di informarti; e quando sarai informato, riprenderai con giustizia.
8 Before hearing, answer not, and interrupt no one in the middle of his speech.	8 Non risponder parola prima di aver sentito; e non interrompere l'altrui discorso.
9 Dispute not about what is not your concern; in the strife of the arrogant take no part.	9 Non contendere per cosa, che nulla a te importa; e non unirti a giudicare con quei, che peccano.
10 My son, why increase your cares, since he who is avid for wealth will not be blameless? Even if you run after it, you will never overtake it; however you seek it, you will not find it.	10 Figliuolo non impicciarti in molte cose; perocché se diverai ricco, non sarai esente da colpa. E andando dietro (a molte cose) non verrai a capo di alcuna; e qualunque diligenza tu facci, non potrai trarti fuora.
11 One may toil and struggle and drive, and fall short all the more.	11 Taluno si affanna, e si da da fare, e patisce, essendo privo di pietà, e tanto meno arricchisce:
12 Another goes his way a weakling and a failure, with little strength and great misery-- Yet the eyes of the LORD look favorably upon him; he raises him free of the vile dust,	12 Tal altro è languido, e bisognoso di ajuto, e privo di forze, e ricco di miseria:
13 Lifts up his head and exalts him to the amazement of the many.	13 E l'occhio di Dio mira costui benignamente, e lo solleva dal suo abbattimento, e gli fa alzare la testa, e molti ne restano ammirati, e a Dio ne rendono onore.
14 Good and evil, life and death, poverty and riches, are from the LORD.	14 I beni, e i mali, la vita, e la morte, la povertà, e la ricchezza vengon da Dio.
15 Wisdom and understanding and knowledge of affairs, love and virtuous paths are from the LORD.	15 La sapienza, e la disciplina, e la scienza della legge sono da Dio: la carità, e le opere de' buoni sono da lui.
16 Error and darkness were formed with sinners from their birth, and evil grows old with evildoers.	16 L'errore, e le tenebre sono ingenite ai peccatori: e quelli, che esultano nel male, invecchiano nella malizia.
17 The LORD'S gift remains with the just; his favor brings continued success.	17 Il dono di Dio rimane presso de' giusti, e con vantaggiosi progressi anderà crescendo continuamente.
18 A man may become rich through a miser's life, and this is his allotted reward:	18 Taluno si fa ricco colla parsimonia, e questo sol frutto ha per sua mercede,
19 When he says: "I have found rest, now I will feast on my possessions," He does not know how long it will be till he dies and leaves them to others.	19 Che dice: Io son contento, e adesso mangerò de' miei beni io solo.
20 My son, hold fast to your duty, busy yourself with it, grow old while doing your task.	20 Ma egli non sa quanto tempo vi sia, perché la morte si accosti, ed egli lasci ad altri ogni cosa, e si muoja.
21 Admire not how sinners live, but trust in the LORD and wait for his light; For it is easy with the LORD suddenly, in an instant, to make a poor man rich.	21 Tienti costante al tuo patto, e sopra di questo ragiona, e invecchia nell'adempiere quel, che ti è comandato.
22 God's blessing is the lot of the just man, and in due time his hopes bear fruit.	22 Non ti abbagli il fare de' peccatori; ma confida in Dio, e sta al tuo posto;
23 Say not: "What do I need? What further pleasure can be mine?"	23 Perocché è cosa facile dinanzi a Dio l'arricchire il povero in un momento.
24 Say not: "I am independent. What harm can come to me now?"	24 La benedizione di Dio corre a rimunerare il giusto, e in brev'ora fa, che egli cresca, e fruttifichi.
25 The day of prosperity makes one forget adversity; the day of adversity makes one forget prosperity.	25 Non dire: Che ho io da fare? e qual bene omai avrò io?
26 For it is easy with the LORD on the day of death to repay man according to his deeds.	26 Non dire: io basto a me stesso: e qual male può mai venirmi?
27 A moment's affliction brings forgetfulness of past delights; when a man dies, his life is revealed.	27 Nel dì felice non ti scordare de' cattivi giorni, e nel giorno cattivo non ti scordare del giorno felice:
28 Call no man happy before his death, for by how he ends, a man is known.	28 Ed è cosa facile a Dio il rendere a ciascheduno secondo le opere sue nel dì della morte.
29 Bring not every man into your house, for many are the snares of the crafty one;	29 Il male di un'ora fa dimenticare le grandi delizie; perché nella fine dell'uomo si manifestano le sue operazioni.
30 Though he seem like a bird confined in a cage, yet like a spy he will pick out the weak spots.	30 Non lodar verun uomo prima della sua morte; perocché l'uomo si riconosce da' suoi figliuoli.
31 The talebearer turns good into evil; with a spark he sets many coals afire.	31 Non introdurre in casa tua ogni sorta di persone; perocché molte sono le insidie degli ingannatori;
32 The evil man lies in wait for blood, and plots against your choicest possessions.	32 Perocché come uno stomaco fetido getta dei rutti, e come la pernice è condotta alla gabbia, e il daino al laccio, cosi va la cosa riguardo al cuor del superbo, che osserva come da una vedetta la caduta del suo prossimo.
33 Avoid a wicked man, for he breeds only evil, lest you incur a lasting stain.	33 Perocché egli il bene convertendo in male sta tendendo insidie, e agli eletti stessi apporrà delle macchie.
34 Lodge a stranger with you, and he will subvert your course, and make a stranger of you to your own household.	34 Da una sola scintilla divampa il fuoco: e un solo ingannatore moltiplica le stragi; perché l'uom peccatore tende a spargere il sangue.
	35 Guardati dall'uomo malizioso macchinatore di guai, affinchè egli non abbia a tirarti addosso infamia per petua.
	36 Ricevi in tua casa lo straniero, ed egli la metterà sottosopra, e ti rovinerà, e ti spoglierà anche del tuo.
