Psalms 73

1 A psalm of Asaph. How good God is to the upright, the Lord, to those who are clean of heart!	1 Salmo. Di Asaf. Di certo, Dio è buono con i retti, il Signore con i puri di cuore.
2 I But, as for me, I lost my balance; my feet all but slipped,	2 Per poco non inciampavano i miei piedi, per un nulla vacillavano i miei passi:
3 Because I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.	3 infatti avevo preso ad invidiare i prepotenti, a osservare la prosperità dei malvagi.
4 For they suffer no pain; their bodies are healthy and sleek.	4 Per essi non c'è sofferenza, sano e ben nutrito è il loro ventre;
5 They are free of the burdens of life; they are not afflicted like others.	5 non si trovano nei travagli dei mortali e non vengono colpiti come tutti gli altri uomini.
6 Thus pride adorns them as a necklace; violence clothes them as a robe.	6 Al contrario, quale collana li circonda l'orgoglio, quale vestito li ricopre la violenza;
7 Out of their stupidity comes sin; evil thoughts flood their hearts.	7 come da grasso esce la loro iniquità, traboccano i perversi pensieri del loro cuore.
8 They scoff and spout their malice; from on high they utter threats.	8 Sogghignano, parlano con malizia, con prepotenza fanno minacce dall'alto;
9 They set their mouths against the heavens, their tongues roam the earth.	9 levano la loro bocca fino ai cieli e la loro lingua percorre la terra.
10 So my people turn to them and drink deeply of their words.	10 Perciò siedono in alto e la piena delle acque non li raggiunge,
11 They say, "Does God really know?" "Does the Most High have any knowledge?"	11 e dicono: "Che cosa ne sa Dio? C'è forse conoscenza nell'Altissimo?".
12 Such, then, are the wicked, always carefree, increasing their wealth.	12 Ecco chi sono gli empi: eternamente tranquilli, non fanno che accrescere la loro potenza.
13 Is it in vain that I have kept my heart clean, washed my hands in innocence?	13 Invano allora ho conservato puro il mio cuore, e nell'innocenza ho lavato le mie mani.
14 For I am afflicted day after day, chastised every morning.	14 Perciò sono rimasto colpito tutto il giorno e castigato ogni mattina.
15 Had I thought, "I will speak as they do," I would have betrayed your people.	15 Stavo quasi per dire: "Voglio parlare come loro". Ma avrei rinnegato così la generazione dei tuoi figli.
16 Though I tried to understand all this, it was too difficult for me,	16 Io penso dunque a questo enigma ma è troppo complicato per i miei occhi.
17 Till I entered the sanctuary of God and came to understand their end.	17 Finché non entrai nel santuario di Dio e compresi qual era la loro fine.
18 You set them, indeed, on a slippery road; you hurl them down to ruin.	18 Di certo, tu li poni su terreno sdrucciolevole e così li fai cadere in rovina.
19 How suddenly they are devastated; undone by disasters forever!	19 Come si sono ridotti in macerie in un istante! Sono venuti meno, disfatti dal terrore!
20 They are like a dream after waking, Lord, dismissed like shadows when you arise.	20 Come un sogno al risveglio, o Signore, al tuo sorgere fai svanire la loro figura.
21 Since my heart was embittered and my soul deeply wounded,	21 Sì, s'inaspriva il mio cuore, rimanevano trafitti i miei reni,
22 I was stupid and could not understand; I was like a brute beast in your presence.	22 essendo io stolto, ignorante, un vero animale davanti a te.
23 Yet I am always with you; you take hold of my right hand.	23 Eppure io sono sempre con te; tu mi hai preso per la mia destra.
24 With your counsel you guide me, and at the end receive me with honor.	24 Con il tuo consiglio mi guidi, e poi nella gloria tu mi prendi.
25 Whom else have I in the heavens? None beside you delights me on earth.	25 Chi ho io nei cieli? Fuori di te, nessun altro io bramo sulla terra.
26 Though my flesh and my heart fail, God is the rock of my heart, my portion forever.	26 Può venir meno la mia carne e anche il mio cuore, roccia del mio cuore e mia porzione è Dio in eterno!
27 But those who are far from you perish; you destroy those unfaithful to you.	27 Poiché ecco: quelli che s'allontanano da te periscono; tu distruggi chi si mostra a te infedele.
28 As for me, to be near God is my good, to make the Lord GOD my refuge. I shall declare all your works in the gates of daughter Zion.	28 Quanto a me, il mio bene è star solo vicino a Dio. Nel Signore Dio ho posto il mio rifugio, perché possa narrare tutte le sue gesta.
