1 Do you know about the birth of the mountain goats, watch for the birth pangs of the hinds,	1 « Conosci tu il tempo in cui le capre selvatiche figliano nelle rocce, hai assistito nel parto le cerve?
2 Number the months that they must fulfill, and fix the time of their bringing forth?	2 Hai contati i mesi di lor gravidanza, e sai il tempo del loro parto?
3 They crouch down and bear their young; they deliver their progeny in the desert.	3 S'incurvano per dare alla luce e partoriscono mandando gemiti.
4 When their offspring thrive and grow, they leave and do not return.	4 I loro piccoli le lasciano per correre alla pastura; se ne vanno e non tornano più alle madri.
5 Who has given the wild ass his freedom, and who has loosed him from bonds?	5 Chi pose l'onagro in libertà e ne sciolse i legami?
6 I have made the wilderness his home and the salt flats his dwelling.	6 Io gli diedi una dimora nel deserto ed una terra salata ad abitare.
7 He scoffs at the uproar of the city, and hears no shouts of a driver.	7 Egli disprezza l'affollamento della città e non sente il vociar dell'aguzzino.
8 He ranges the mountains for pasture, and seeks out every patch of green.	8 Vo1ge in giro gli occhi alle montagne di sua pastura e va in traccia d'ogni filo d'erba.
9 Will the wild ox consent to serve you, and to pass the nights by your manger?	9 Il rinoceronte vorrà egli servirti? Se ne starà alla tua mangiatoia?
10 Will a rope bind him in the furrow, and will he harrow the valleys after you?	10 Lo legherai al tuo giogo per arare? Romperà dietro a te le zolle delle tue valli?
11 Will you trust him for his great strength and leave to him the fruits of your toil?	11 Ti fiderai della sua gran forza? Gli affiderai i tuoi lavori?
12 Can you rely on him to thresh out your grain and gather in the yield of your threshing floor?	12 Credi tu che egli ti renda la tua sementè e ti empia la tua aia?
13 The wings of the ostrich beat idly; her plumage is lacking in pinions.	13 La penna dello struzzo è simile alle penne della cicogna e dello sparviero.
14 When she leaves her eggs on the ground and deposits them in the sand,	14 Quando egli abbandona le sue ova per terra, sei forse tu che le riscaldi sulla sabbia?
15 Unmindful that a foot may crush them, that the wild beasts may trample them,	15 Egli non pensa che un piede le potrà schiacciare, che la fiera le potrà calpestare.
16 She cruelly disowns her young and ruthlessly makes nought of her brood;	16 Spietato contro i suoi nati, come se non fossero suoi, rende la sua fatica vana anche non costretto dal timore;
17 For God has withheld wisdom from her and has given her no share in understanding.	17 perché il Signore gli negò la saggezza e non gli diede giudizio.
18 Yet in her swiftness of foot she makes sport of the horse and his rider.	18 Ma quando è tempo stende in alto le sue ali e si burla del cavallo e del cavaliere.
19 Do you give the horse his strength, and endow his neck with splendor?	19 Sarai tu quello che darai la forza al destriero e gli vestirai il collo di fremiti?
20 Do you make the steed to quiver while his thunderous snorting spreads terror?	20 E lo farai saltare come locusta? La fierezza del suo sbuffare atterrisce.
21 He jubilantly paws the plain and rushes in his might against the weapons.	21 Raspa la terra colla zampa, si slancia con audacia, va incontro agli armati.
22 He laughs at fear and cannot be deterred; he turns not back from the sword.	22 Disprezza la paura, non cede alla spada;
23 Around him rattles the quiver, flashes the spear and the javelin.	23 sopra di lui risonerà il turcasso, scintillerà la lancia e lo scudo.
24 Frenzied and trembling he devours the ground; he holds not back at the sound of the trumpet,	24 Spumante e fremente divora la terra, non gli par vero che suoni la tromba.
25 but at each blast he cries, "Aha!" Even from afar he scents the battle, the roar of the chiefs and the shouting.	25 Sentito lo squillo, dice: Via! Sente da lungi l'odor della battaglia, le esortazioni dei duci e il vociar dei soldati.
26 Is it by your discernment that the hawk soars, that he spreads his wings toward the south?	26 Forse per la tua sapienza lo sparviero si veste di piume e spicca il volo verso il mezzodì?
27 Does the eagle fly up at your command to build his nest aloft?	27 Forse al tuo cenno l'aquila si leverà in alto e porrà il suo nido nei luoghi più dovati?
28 On the cliff he dwells and spends the night, on the spur of the cliff or the fortress.	28 Sta sopra le rocce, per­notta fra i dirupi scoscesi e sopra vette inaccessibili.
29 From thence he watches for his prey; his eyes behold it afar off.	29 Di lassù con­templa la preda, e i suoi occhi ve­dono da lontano.
30 His young ones greedily drink blood; where the slain are, there is he.	30 I suoi aqui­lotti lambiscono il sangue, ed essa si trova dovunque sia un cadavere ».
	31 Poi il Signore, seguitando a parlare, disse a Giobbe:
	32 « Chi chiede ragione a Dio s'acquieterà così facilmente? Certo chi critica Dio deve rispondergli ».
	33 Allora Giobbe rispose al Signore, dicendo:
	34 « Io, che ho parlato con leggerezza, che posso rispondere? Porrò la mia mano sulla mia bocca.
	35 H0 detto una cosa, (oh, non l'avessi. detta!) e un'altra, e non dirò più nulla ».
