1 Do you know about the birth of the mountain goats, watch for the birth pangs of the hinds,	1 E' egli a te noto il tempo, in cui le capre salvatiche partoriscono nelle spelonche; od hai tu osservato il partorir delle cerve?
2 Number the months that they must fulfill, and fix the time of their bringing forth?	2 Hai tu contati i mesi di lor gravidanza, e segnato il tempo del loro parto?
3 They crouch down and bear their young; they deliver their progeny in the desert.	3 Elle si incurvano, e partoriscono urlando.
4 When their offspring thrive and grow, they leave and do not return.	4 Si separano da esse i loro parti, e vanno alla pastura: se ne vanno, né tornan più a rivederle.
5 Who has given the wild ass his freedom, and who has loosed him from bonds?	5 Chi pose l'asino salvatico in libertà, e da ogni freno lo sciolse?
6 I have made the wilderness his home and the salt flats his dwelling.	6 A lui io diedi per casa il deserto, e per istanza una terra infeconda.
7 He scoffs at the uproar of the city, and hears no shouts of a driver.	7 Egli dispregia gli strepiti delle città, e non ode le grida di un duro padrone.
8 He ranges the mountains for pasture, and seeks out every patch of green.	8 Volge egli in giro gli occhi alle montagne di sua pastura, e va in traccia di ogni genere di verzura.
9 Will the wild ox consent to serve you, and to pass the nights by your manger?	9 Vorrà egli servire a te il rinoceronte, o starsene alla tua mangiatoia?
10 Will a rope bind him in the furrow, and will he harrow the valleys after you?	10 Porrai tu al tuo giogo ad arare il rinoceronte; o romperà egli dietro a te le zolle delle tue valli?
11 Will you trust him for his great strength and leave to him the fruits of your toil?	11 Ti fiderai tu della sua gran forza, e a cura di lui porrai i tuoi lavori di campagna?
12 Can you rely on him to thresh out your grain and gather in the yield of your threshing floor?	12 Credi tu ch'ei ti renderà la tua semente, ed empierà la tua aia?
13 The wings of the ostrich beat idly; her plumage is lacking in pinions.	13 La piuma dello struzzo è simile alle penne della cicogna, e dello sparviere.
14 When she leaves her eggs on the ground and deposits them in the sand,	14 Quand'egli abbandona le sue uova per terra, se tu' forse, che tralla polvere le riscaldi?
15 Unmindful that a foot may crush them, that the wild beasts may trample them,	15 Egli non pensa, che il piede le schiaccerà, o le fiere selvagge le pesteranno.
16 She cruelly disowns her young and ruthlessly makes nought of her brood;	16 Egli è crudele verso i suoi parti, come se suoi non fossero, egli getta le sue fatiche, senza che timore alcuno il costringa.
17 For God has withheld wisdom from her and has given her no share in understanding.	17 Perché il Signore lo privò di saggezza, e non gli diede discernimento.
18 Yet in her swiftness of foot she makes sport of the horse and his rider.	18 Ma quando è tempo egli stende in alto sue ali, o si burla del cavallo, e del cavaliere.
19 Do you give the horse his strength, and endow his neck with splendor?	19 Sarai tu che darai fortezza al cavallo, o la sua gola empierai di nitriti?
20 Do you make the steed to quiver while his thunderous snorting spreads terror?	20 Lo farai tu saltellare come le locuste? la maestà delle sue narici atterrisce?
21 He jubilantly paws the plain and rushes in his might against the weapons.	21 Scalza la terra colla zampa, saltella con brio, va incontro agli armati,
22 He laughs at fear and cannot be deterred; he turns not back from the sword.	22 Disprezzator di paura, nol rattiene la spada.
23 Around him rattles the quiver, flashes the spear and the javelin.	23 Sente sopra di se il rumor del turcasso, il vibrar delle lance, e il moto dello scudo.
24 Frenzied and trembling he devours the ground; he holds not back at the sound of the trumpet,	24 Spumante, e fremente si mangia la terra, né aspetta che suoni la tromba.
25 but at each blast he cries, "Aha!" Even from afar he scents the battle, the roar of the chiefs and the shouting.	25 Sentita ch'egli ha la tromba, dice: Bene sta. Sente da lungi l'odor di battaglia, le esortazioni de' capitani, e le strida delle milizie.
26 Is it by your discernment that the hawk soars, that he spreads his wings toward the south?	26 Forse per effetto di tua sapienza si veste lo sparviere di piume, e le ali distende verso il mezzodì?
27 Does the eagle fly up at your command to build his nest aloft?	27 Forse al tuo comando si leverà in alto l'aquila, e in luoghi eccelsi farà, suo nido?
28 On the cliff he dwells and spends the night, on the spur of the cliff or the fortress.	28 Se ne sta ella sui massi, e negli scoscesi dirupi, e su' gioghi inaccessibili.
29 From thence he watches for his prey; his eyes behold it afar off.	29 Di là ella contempla la preda, e i suoi occhi veggono in gran lontananza.
30 His young ones greedily drink blood; where the slain are, there is he.	30 I suoi aquilotti leccano il sangue, e dovunque sia un cadavere tosto ella, si trova.
	31 E il Signore soggiunse, e disse a Giobbe:
	32 Colui che alterca con Dio, si acquieterà egli si facilmente? Certo che chi vuoi riprendere Dio debbe rispondergli.
	33 Ma Giobbe rispose al Signore, e disse:
	34 Io che ho parlato con leggerezza, che posso rispondere? mi porrò la mano alla bocca.
	35 Una cosa ho detto, la quale non avess'io detta giammai; e anche un'altra, alle quali niente più aggiungerò.
