1 When the wall had been rebuilt, I had the doors set up, and the gatekeepers (and the singers and the Levites) were put in charge of them.	1 Ora, dopo che le mura furono riedificate, e che io ebbi posate le reggi, e che furono costituiti i portinai, i cantori ed i Leviti ne’ loro ufficii,
2 Over Jerusalem I placed Hanani, my brother, and Hananiah, the commander of the citadel, who was a more trustworthy and God-fearing man than most.	2 io commisi la guardia di Gerusalemme ad Hanani, mio fratello; e ad Hanania, mastro del palazzo conciossiachè veramente egli fosse uomo leale, e temesse Iddio più che molti altri;
3 I said to them: "The gates of Jerusalem are not to be opened until the sun is hot, and while the sun is still shining they shall shut and bar the doors. Appoint as watchmen the inhabitants of Jerusalem, some at their watch posts, and others before their own houses."	3 e dissi loro: Non apransi le porte di Gerusalemme, finchè il sole non si cominci a riscaldare; e mentre quelli che avranno fatta la guardia saranno ancora quivi presenti, serrinsi le porte, ed abbarratele voi; ed oltre a ciò, dispongansi le guardie degli abitanti di Gerusalemme, ciascuno alla sua vicenda, e ciascuno dirimpetto alla sua casa.
4 Now the city was quite wide and spacious, but its population was small, and none of the houses had been rebuilt.	4 Or la città era ampia e grande, e vi era poco popolo dentro, e le case non erano riedificate
5 When my God had put it into my mind to gather together the nobles, the magistrates, and the common people, and to examine their family records, I came upon the family list of those who had returned in the earliest period. There I found the following written:	5 E L’IDDIO mio mi mise in cuore d’adunar gli uomini notabili, i magistrati, e il popolo, per descriverli secondo le lor genealogie. Ed io trovai il libro della descrizione di quelli che erano ritornati la prima volta; ed in esso trovai scritto così:
6 These are the inhabitants of the province who returned from the captivity of the exiles whom Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, had carried away, and who came back to Jerusalem and Judah, each man to his own city	6 Questi son quei della provincia che ritornarono dalla cattività, d’infra i prigioni che Nebucadnesar, re di Babilonia, trasportò; ed i quali se ne rivennero in Gerusalemme, e in Giuda, ciascuno alla sua città;
7 (those who returned with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, and Baanah). The census of the men of Israel:	7 i quali vennero con Zorobabel, Iesua, Neemia, Azaria, Raamia, Nahamani, Mardocheo, Bilsan, Misperet, Bigvai, Nehum, e Baana. 61 The following who returned from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer were unable to prove that their ancestral houses and their descent were Israelite:	61 Or costoro, cioè Cherub, Addon ed Immer, i quali vennero di Tel-mela, e di Tel-harsa, non poterono dimostrar la casa loro paterna, nè la lor progenie se erano Israeliti.
62 sons of Delaiah, sons of Tobiah, sons of Nekoda, six hundred and forty-two.	62 Come anche i figliuoli di Delaia, i figliuoli di Tobia, i figliuoli di Necoda, in numero di seicenquarantadue.
63 Also, of the priests: sons of Hobaiah, sons of Hakkoz, sons of Barzillai (he had married one of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite and became known by his name).	63 E de’ sacerdoti, i figliuoli di Habaia, i figliuoli di Cos, i figliuoli di Barzillai, il quale prese per moglie una delle figliuole di Barzillai Galaadita, e si chiamò del nome loro.
64 These men searched their family records, but their names could not be found written there; hence they were degraded from the priesthood,	64 Costoro cercarono il nome loro scritto fra quelli ch’erano descritti nelle genealogie, ma non furono trovati; laonde furono appartati dal sacerdozio, come persone non consacrate.
65 and His Excellency ordered them not to partake of the most holy foods until there should be a priest bearing the Urim and Thummim.	65 Ed Hattirsata disse loro che non mangiassero delle cose santissime, finchè si presentasse un sacerdote con Urim e Tummim.

70 Some of the family heads contributed to the treasury for the temple service: twenty thousand drachmas of gold and two thousand two hundred minas of silver.	70 Or una parte de’ capi delle famiglie paterne fecero doni per l’opera. 71 The contributions of the rest of the people amounted to twenty thousand drachmas of gold, two thousand minas of silver, and sixty-seven garments for priests.	71 Ed altri dei capi delle famiglie paterne diedero nel tesoro della fabbrica ventimila dramme d’oro, e duemila dugento mine d’argento.
72 The priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the temple slaves, and all Israel took up residence in their cities.	72 E ciò che il rimanente del popolo diede, fu ventimila dramme d’oro, e duemila mine d’argento, e sessantasette robe da sacerdoti.
	73 E i sacerdoti, e i Leviti, e i portinai, e i cantori, e que’ del popolo, e i Netinei, e in somma tutto Israele, abitarono nelle lor città; e il settimo mese essendo giunto, i figliuoli d’Israele erano nelle lor città
