Genesis 31

1 Jacob learned that Laban's sons were saying, "Jacob has taken everything that belonged to our father, and he has accumulated all this wealth of his by using our father's property."	1 Jacó ouviu as palavras dos filhos de Labão, que diziam: "Jacó tomou tudo o que é de nosso pai, e é às suas custas que ele se tornou de tal forma rico."
2 Jacob perceived, too, that Laban's attitude toward him was not what it had previously been.	2 Observou também, pela fisionomia de Labão, que este não tinha mais para com ele os sentimentos de antes.
3 Then the LORD said to Jacob, "Return to the land of your fathers, where you were born, and I will be with you."	3 O Senhor disse a Jacó: "Volta para a terra dos teus pais, para a tua parentela, e eu estarei contigo."
4 So Jacob sent for Rachel and Leah to meet him where he was in the field with his flock.	4 Então Jacó mandou Raquel e Lia vir ao campo junto dos seus rebanhos:
5 There he said to them: "I have noticed that your father's attitude toward me is not as it was in the past; but the God of my father has been with me.	5 "Vejo, disse-lhes ele, pelo semblante de vosso pai, que ele não é mais para comigo o mesmo que antes. Mas o Deus de meu pai está comigo.
6 You well know what effort I put into serving your father;	6 Sabeis que servi a vosso pai o melhor que pude,
7 yet your father cheated me and changed my wages time after time. God, however, did not let him do me any harm.	7 enquanto ele zombou de mim, mudando dez vezes o meu salário; mas Deus não lhe permitiu causar-me prejuízo.
8 Whenever your father said, 'The speckled animals shall be your wages,' the entire flock would bear speckled young; whenever he said, 'The streaked animals shall be your wages,' the entire flock would bear streaked young.	8 Quando ele dizia: os animais malhados serão o teu salário, todas as ovelhas davam à luz cordeiros malhados, e se dizia: os animais riscados serão o teu salário, todas as ovelhas davam à luz cordeiros riscados.
9 Thus God reclaimed your father's livestock and gave it to me.	9 Foi Deus mesmo que tomou o rebanho de vosso pai para me dar.
10 Once, in the breeding season, I had a dream in which I saw mating he-goats that were streaked, speckled and mottled.	10 No tempo em que os animais deviam conceber, eu levantava os olhos e via em sonhos que os bodes que cobriam as cabras eram listados, malhados e manchados.
11 In the dream God's messenger called to me, 'Jacob!' 'Here!' I replied.	11 Um anjo de Deus disse-me em sonhos: Jacó! Eis-me aqui, respondi.
12 Then he said: 'Note well. All the he-goats in the flock, as they mate, are streaked, speckled and mottled, for I have seen all the things that Laban has been doing to you.	12 Levanta os olhos e vê: todos os bodes que cobrem as cabras são listados, malhados e manchados, porque eu vi tudo o que te fez Labão.
13 I am the God who appeared to you in Bethel, where you anointed a memorial stone and made a vow to me. Up, then! Leave this land and return to the land of your birth.'"	13 Eu sou o Deus de Betel, onde tu me consagraste uma estela e me fizeste um voto. Agora, vamos, sai daqui e volta para a terra de tua família."
14 Rachel and Leah answered him: "Have we still an heir's portion in our father's house?	14 Raquel e Lia responderam: "Resta-nos porventura ainda alguma parte de herança na casa de nosso pai?
15 Are we not regarded by him as outsiders? He not only sold us; he has even used up the money that he got for us!	15 Não nos tratou ele como estrangeiras, vendendo-nos e devorando o nosso dinheiro?
16 All the wealth that God reclaimed from our father really belongs to us and our children. Therefore, do just as God has told you."	16 Toda a riqueza, que Deus tomou de nosso pai, é para nós e para nossos filhos. Faze, pois, o que Deus te disse."
17 Jacob proceeded to put his children and wives on camels,	17 Levantou-se, pois, Jacó, e fez montar seus filhos e suas mulheres nos camelos.
18 and he drove off with all his livestock and all the property he had acquired in Paddan-aram, to go to his father Isaac in the land of Canaan.	18 Levou consigo todos os seus rebanhos, todos os bens que tinha ajuntado, o rebanho que lhe pertencia, adquirido em Padã-Arã, e partiu para junto de seu pai Isaac, na terra de Canaã.
19 Now Laban had gone away to shear his sheep, and Rachel had meanwhile appropriated her father's household idols.	19 Raquel, aproveitando um momento em que seu pai fora tosquiar suas ovelhas, roubou os terafim de seu pai;
20 Jacob had hoodwinked Laban the Aramean by not telling him of his intended flight.	20 e Jacó enganou Labão, o arameu, ocultando-lhe sua fuga.
21 Thus he made his escape with all that he had. Once he was across the Euphrates, he headed for the highlands of Gilead.	21 Fugindo, pois, com tudo o que era seu, atravessou o rio e dirigiu-se para a montanha de Galaad.
22 On the third day, word came to Laban that Jacob had fled.	22 Três dias depois, soube Labão da fuga de Jacó.
23 Taking his kinsmen with him, he pursued him for seven days until he caught up with him in the hill country of Gilead.	23 E, tomando consigo seus irmãos, perseguiu-o durante sete dias de marcha, e alcançou-o na montanha de Galaad.
24 But that night God appeared to Laban the Aramean in a dream and warned him, "Take care not to threaten Jacob with any harm!"	24 Deus, porém, apareceu num sonho noturno a Labão, o arameu, e disse-lhe: "Guarda-te de dizer algo a Jacó."
25 When Laban overtook Jacob, Jacob's tents were pitched in the highlands; Laban also pitched his tents there, on Mount Gilead.	25 Labão alcançou, pois, Jacó. Este havia levantado sua tenda na montanha, enquanto Labão e seus irmãos tinham plantado a sua na montanha de Galaad.
26 "What do you mean," Laban demanded of Jacob, "by hoodwinking me and carrying off my daughters like war captives?	26 Labão disse a Jacó: "Que fizeste? Tu me enganaste, e conduziste minhas filhas como prisioneiras de guerra!
27 Why did you dupe me by stealing away secretly? You should have told me, and I would have sent you off with merry singing to the sound of tambourines and harps.	27 Por que fugiste dessa forma, e me lograste em lugar de me avisar? Eu te teria despedido com manifestações de júbilo e com cânticos, ao som do tamborim e da harpa.
28 You did not even allow me a parting kiss to my daughters and grandchildren! What you have now done is a senseless thing.	28 Não me deixaste beijar meus filhos e minhas filhas! Procedeste como um insensato.
29 I have it in my power to harm all of you; but last night the God of your father said to me, 'Take care not to threaten Jacob with any harm!'	29 Eu poderia agora fazer-vos mal, mas o Deus de teu pai disse-me na última noite: Guarda-te de dizer algo a Jacó.
30 Granted that you had to leave because you were desperately homesick for your father's house, why did you steal my gods?"	30 E, se partiste somente porque tinhas saudade da casa paterna, então por que roubaste os meus deuses?"
31 "I was frightened," Jacob replied to Laban, "at the thought that you might take your daughters away from me by force.	31 Jacó respondeu-lhe: "Tive medo, ao pensar que poderias tirar-me tuas filhas;
32 But as for your gods, the one you find them with shall not remain alive! If, with my kinsmen looking on, you identify anything here as belonging to you, take it." Jacob, of course, had no idea that Rachel had stolen the idols.	32 quanto aos teus deuses, porém, seja morto aquele que os tiver consigo! Examina o que está comigo, em presença de nossos parentes, e retoma o que é teu." Ora, Jacó ignorava o roubo de Raquel.
33 Laban then went in and searched Jacob's tent and Leah's tent, as well as the tents of the two maidservants; but he did not find the idols. Leaving Leah's tent, he went into Rachel's.	33 Labão entrou na tenda de Jacó, na de Lia e na das duas escravas, mas nada encontrou. Saindo da tenda de Lia, entrou na de Raquel.
34 Now Rachel had taken the idols, put them inside a camel cushion, and seated herself upon them. When Laban had rummaged through the rest of her tent without finding them,	34 Esta havia tomado os terafim e, colocando-os na sela do camelo, sentou-se em cima. Labão revistou toda a tenda, sem nada encontrar.
35 Rachel said to her father, "Let not my lord feel offended that I cannot rise in your presence; a woman's period is upon me." So, despite his search, he did not find his idols.	35 Raquel disse ao seu pai: "Não se irrite o meu senhor, se não posso levantar-me em sua presença, pois acho-me agora com a indisposição que costuma vir às mulheres." Revistou, pois, mas não encontrou os terafim.
36 Jacob, now enraged, upbraided Laban. "What crime or offense have I committed," he demanded, "that you should hound me so fiercely?	36 Jacó encolerizou-se então contra Labão, e acabrunhou-o de censuras: "Qual é o meu crime?, disse-lhe ele. Qual é o meu pecado, para que te irrites desse modo contra mim?
37 Now that you have ransacked all my things, have you found a single object taken from your belongings? If so, produce it here before your kinsmen and mine, and let them decide between us two.	37 Revistaste todas as minhas bagagens: que encontraste do que é teu? Mostra-me aqui em presença de meus parentes e dos teus, e sejam eles juízes entre nós dois.
38 "In the twenty years that I was under you, no ewe or she-goat of yours ever miscarried, and I have never feasted on a ram of your flock.	38 Há vinte anos que estou em tua casa: tuas ovelhas e tuas cabras não abortaram, não comi os carneiros do teu rebanho.
39 I never brought you an animal torn by wild beasts; I made good the loss myself. You held me responsible for anything stolen by day or night.	39 Nunca te trouxe os animais estraçalhados pelas feras. Eu os repunha, pois tu o exigias, quer fossem roubados de dia, quer de noite.
40 How often the scorching heat ravaged me by day, and the frost by night, while sleep fled from my eyes!	40 Eu era queimado de dia pelo calor, e de noite pelo frio, e o sono fugia dos meus olhos.
41 Of the twenty years that I have now spent in your household, I slaved fourteen years for your two daughters and six years for your flock, while you changed my wages time after time.	41 Eis já vinte anos que estou em tua casa; servi-te catorze anos por tuas duas filhas, seis anos pelos teus rebanhos, e dez vezes modificaste o meu salário.
42 If my ancestral God, the God of Abraham and the Awesome One of Isaac, had not been on my side, you would now have sent me away empty-handed. But God saw my plight and the fruits of my toil, and last night he gave judgment."	42 Se o Deus de meu pai, o Deus de Abraão, o Deus terrível de Isaac não se tivesse posto de meu lado, tu me terias hoje despedido com as mãos vazias. Deus viu minhas penas e meus trabalhos, e na última noite ele pronunciou-se.
43 Laban replied to Jacob: "The women are mine, their children are mine, and the flocks are mine; everything you see belongs to me. But since these women are my daughters, I will now do something for them and for the children they have borne.	43 Labão respondeu a Jacó: "Estas filhas são minhas filhas, estes filhos, meus filhos, e estes rebanhos, meus rebanhos: tudo o que vês é meu. Que farei eu agora contra minhas filhas, ou contra os filhos que elas deram ao mundo?
44 Come, then, we will make a pact, you and I; the LORD shall be a witness between us."	44 Vamos, façamos juntos um pacto que nos sirva de testemunho a nós dois."
45 Then Jacob took a stone and set it up as a memorial stone.	45 Jacó tomou uma pedra e erigiu-a em estela,
46 Jacob said to his kinsmen, "Gather some stones." So they got some stones and made a mound; and they had a meal there at the mound.	46 e disse aos seus parentes: "Trazei pedras." E, tendo juntado muitas, fizeram um monte, sobre o qual comeram.
47 Laban called it Jegar-sahadutha, but Jacob named it Galeed.	47 Labão chamou-o Yegar-Saaduta, e Jacó, Galaad.
48 "This mound," said Laban, "shall be a witness from now on between you and me." That is why it was named Galeed--	48 Labão disse: "Este monte é hoje testemunha entre mim e ti",e por isso deu-se-lhe o nome de Galaad,
49 and also Mizpah, for he said: "May the LORD keep watch between you and me when we are out of each other's sight.	49 e também Mitspa, porque Labão disse ainda: "Que o Senhor nos vigie a nós ambos, quando nós nos tivermos despedido um do outro.
50 If you mistreat my daughters, or take other wives besides my daughters, remember that even though no one else is about, God will be witness between you and me."	50 Se maltratares minhas filhas, e se tomares outras mulheres além delas, não é um homem que estará conosco. Mas toma cuidado, pois é Deus que será testemunha entre nós."
51 Laban said further to Jacob: "Here is this mound, and here is the memorial stone that I have set up between you and me.	51 Labão disse ainda a Jacó: "Vês este monte de pedras e esta estela que levantei entre mim e ti.
52 This mound shall be witness, and this memorial stone shall be witness, that, with hostile intent, neither may I pass beyond this mound into your territory, nor may you pass beyond it into mine.	52 Este monte é testemunho, e igualmente esta estela, de que eu não ultrapassarei este monte para o teu lado, e que tu não ultrapassarás este monte e esta estela para o meu lado para nos fazer mal.
53 May the God of Abraham and the god of Nahor (their ancestral deities) maintain justice between us!" Jacob took the oath by the Awesome One of Isaac.	53 O Deus de Abraão, o Deus de Nacor, o Deus de seus pais seja juiz entre nós!" E Jacó jurou pelo Deus terrível de Isaac.
54 He then offered a sacrifice on the mountain and invited his kinsmen to share in the meal. When they had eaten, they passed the night on the mountain.	54 Ofereceu um sacrifício sobre a montanha e convidou seus parentes para comer. Comeram e passaram a noite na montanha.
	55 No dia seguinte pela manhã, Labão beijou seus filhos e suas filhas; abençoou-os e retomou o caminho de sua casa.
