1 Jacob learned that Laban's sons were saying, "Jacob has taken everything that belonged to our father, and he has accumulated all this wealth of his by using our father's property."	1 Oyó Jacob que los hijos de Labán decían: «Jacob se ha apoderado de todo lo de nuestro padre, y con lo de nuestro padre ha hecho toda esa fortuna.»
2 Jacob perceived, too, that Laban's attitude toward him was not what it had previously been.	2 Jacob observó el rostro de Labán y vio que ya no era para con él como hasta entonces.
3 Then the LORD said to Jacob, "Return to the land of your fathers, where you were born, and I will be with you."	3 Entonces Yahveh dijo a Jacob: «Vuélvete a la tierra de tus padres, a tu patria, y yo estaré contigo.»
4 So Jacob sent for Rachel and Leah to meet him where he was in the field with his flock.	4 Jacob envió a llamar a Raquel y a Lía al campo, donde estaba su rebaño,
5 There he said to them: "I have noticed that your father's attitude toward me is not as it was in the past; but the God of my father has been with me.	5 y les dijo: «Vengo observando que vuestro padre ya no me mira como antes; pero el Dios de mi padre ha estado conmigo.
6 You well know what effort I put into serving your father;	6 Vosotras sabéis que he servido a vuestro padre con todas mis fuerzas;
7 yet your father cheated me and changed my wages time after time. God, however, did not let him do me any harm.	7 pero vuestro padre ha trapaceado conmigo y ha cambiado mi retribución una docena de veces, si bien Dios no le ha dejado perjudicarme.
8 Whenever your father said, 'The speckled animals shall be your wages,' the entire flock would bear speckled young; whenever he said, 'The streaked animals shall be your wages,' the entire flock would bear streaked young.	8 Si él decía: Tu paga serán las reses pintas, entonces todas las ovejas parían pintas. Y si decía: Tu paga será lo listado, entonces todas las ovejas parían listado.
9 Thus God reclaimed your father's livestock and gave it to me.	9 De esta suerte Dios ha quitado el ganado a vuestro padre y me lo ha dado a mí.
10 Once, in the breeding season, I had a dream in which I saw mating he-goats that were streaked, speckled and mottled.	10 Pues bien: en la época de calentarse el rebaño, alcé los ojos y vi en un sueño cómo los machos que montaban al rebaño eran listados, pintos y salpicados.
11 In the dream God's messenger called to me, 'Jacob!' 'Here!' I replied.	11 Y me dijo el Ángel de Dios en aquel sueño: “¡Jacob!” Yo respondí: “Aquí estoy.”
12 Then he said: 'Note well. All the he-goats in the flock, as they mate, are streaked, speckled and mottled, for I have seen all the things that Laban has been doing to you.	12 Y dijo: Alza los ojos, y verás que todos los machos que montan al rebaño son listados, pintos y salpicados. Es que he visto todo lo que Labán te ha hecho.
13 I am the God who appeared to you in Bethel, where you anointed a memorial stone and made a vow to me. Up, then! Leave this land and return to the land of your birth.'"	13 Yo soy el Dios que se te apareció en Betel, donde ungiste una estela y donde me hiciste aquel voto. Ahora, levántate, sal de esta tierra y vuelve a tu país natal.»
14 Rachel and Leah answered him: "Have we still an heir's portion in our father's house?	14 Respondieron Raquel y Lía y le dijeron: «¿Es que tenemos aún parte o herencia en la casa de nuestro padre?
15 Are we not regarded by him as outsiders? He not only sold us; he has even used up the money that he got for us!	15 ¿No hemos sido consideradas como extrañas para él, puesto que nos vendió y, por comerse, incluso se comió nuestra plata?
16 All the wealth that God reclaimed from our father really belongs to us and our children. Therefore, do just as God has told you."	16 Así que toda la riqueza que ha quitado Dios a nuestro padre nuestra es y de nuestros hijos. Con que todo lo que te ha dicho Dios, hazlo.»
17 Jacob proceeded to put his children and wives on camels,	17 Levantóse Jacob, montó a sus hijos y a sus mujeres en los camellos,
18 and he drove off with all his livestock and all the property he had acquired in Paddan-aram, to go to his father Isaac in the land of Canaan.	18 y se llevó todo su ganado y toda la hacienda que había adquirido, el ganado de su propiedad, que había adquirido en Paddán Aram, para irse a donde su padre Isaac a Canaán.
19 Now Laban had gone away to shear his sheep, and Rachel had meanwhile appropriated her father's household idols.	19 Como Labán había ido a esquilar sus ovejas, Raquel robó los ídolos familiares que tenía su padre,
20 Jacob had hoodwinked Laban the Aramean by not telling him of his intended flight.	20 y Jacob actuó a hurtadillas de Labán el arameo, no dándole ningún indicio de que se fugaba.
21 Thus he made his escape with all that he had. Once he was across the Euphrates, he headed for the highlands of Gilead.	21 En efecto, se fugó con todo lo suyo; se levantó, pasó el Río y enderezó hacia la montaña de Galaad.
22 On the third day, word came to Laban that Jacob had fled.	22 Al tercer día recibió Labán la noticia de que Jacob se había fugado.
23 Taking his kinsmen with him, he pursued him for seven days until he caught up with him in the hill country of Gilead.	23 Entonces tomó a sus hermanos consigo y tras siete jornadas de persecución a su zaga le dio alcance en la montaña de Galaad.
24 But that night God appeared to Laban the Aramean in a dream and warned him, "Take care not to threaten Jacob with any harm!"	24 Pero aquella noche vino Dios en sueños a Labán el arameo y le dijo: «Guárdate de hablar nada con Jacob, ni bueno ni malo.»
25 When Laban overtook Jacob, Jacob's tents were pitched in the highlands; Laban also pitched his tents there, on Mount Gilead.	25 Alcanzó, pues, Labán a Jacob. Este había plantado su tienda en la montaña y Labán plantó la suya con sus hermanos en la misma montaña de Galaad.
26 "What do you mean," Laban demanded of Jacob, "by hoodwinking me and carrying off my daughters like war captives?	26 Y dijo Labán a Jacob: «¿Qué has hecho? Has actuado a hurtadillas de mí y te has llevado a mis hijas cual cautivas de guerra.
27 Why did you dupe me by stealing away secretly? You should have told me, and I would have sent you off with merry singing to the sound of tambourines and harps.	27 ¿Por qué te has fugado con disimulo y a hurtadillas de mí, en vez de advertírmelo? Yo te habría despedido con alegría y con cantares, con adufes y arpas.
28 You did not even allow me a parting kiss to my daughters and grandchildren! What you have now done is a senseless thing.	28 Ni siquiera me has permitido besar a mis hijos e hijas. O sea, que has obrado como un necio.
29 I have it in my power to harm all of you; but last night the God of your father said to me, 'Take care not to threaten Jacob with any harm!'	29 Hay poder en mi mano para hacerte mal: pero el Dios de tu padre me dijo ayer noche: “Guárdate de hablar a Jacob absolutamente nada, ni bueno ni malo.”
30 Granted that you had to leave because you were desperately homesick for your father's house, why did you steal my gods?"	30 Así pues, tú te has marchado porque añorabas la casa paterna, pero ¿por qué robaste mis dioses?»
31 "I was frightened," Jacob replied to Laban, "at the thought that you might take your daughters away from me by force.	31 Respondió Jacob a Labán: «Es que tuve miedo, pensando que acaso ibas a quitarme a tus hijas.
32 But as for your gods, the one you find them with shall not remain alive! If, with my kinsmen looking on, you identify anything here as belonging to you, take it." Jacob, of course, had no idea that Rachel had stolen the idols.	32 Pero eso sí, que aquel a quien le encuentres tus dioses no quede con vida. Delante de nuestros hermanos reconoce lo tuyo que yo tenga y tómatelo.» En efecto, Jacob ignoraba que Raquel los había robado.
33 Laban then went in and searched Jacob's tent and Leah's tent, as well as the tents of the two maidservants; but he did not find the idols. Leaving Leah's tent, he went into Rachel's.	33 Entró Labán en la tienda de Jacob, en la de Lía y en la de las dos criadas, y no halló nada. Salió de la tienda de Lía, y entró en la de Raquel.
34 Now Rachel had taken the idols, put them inside a camel cushion, and seated herself upon them. When Laban had rummaged through the rest of her tent without finding them,	34 Pero Raquel había tomada los ídolos familiares y, poniéndolos en la albarda del camello, se había sentado encima. Labán registró toda la tienda sin hallar nada.
35 Rachel said to her father, "Let not my lord feel offended that I cannot rise in your presence; a woman's period is upon me." So, despite his search, he did not find his idols.	35 Ella dijo a su padre: «No le dé enojo a mi señor de que no pueda levantarme en tu presencia, porque estoy con las reglas.» El siguió rebuscando por toda la tienda sin dar con los ídolos.
36 Jacob, now enraged, upbraided Laban. "What crime or offense have I committed," he demanded, "that you should hound me so fiercely?	36 Entonces Jacob, montando en cólera recriminó a Labán, y encarándose con él le dijo: «¿Cual es mi delito? ¿Cuál mi pecado, que me persigues con saña?
37 Now that you have ransacked all my things, have you found a single object taken from your belongings? If so, produce it here before your kinsmen and mine, and let them decide between us two.	37 Al registrar todos mis enseres, ¿qué has hallado de todos los enseres de tu casa? Ponlo aquí, ante mis hermanos y los tuyos, y juzguen ellos entre nosotros dos.
38 "In the twenty years that I was under you, no ewe or she-goat of yours ever miscarried, and I have never feasted on a ram of your flock.	38 En veinte años que llevo contigo, tus ovejas y tus cabras nunca han malparido, y los machos de tu rebaño nunca me los he comido.
39 I never brought you an animal torn by wild beasts; I made good the loss myself. You held me responsible for anything stolen by day or night.	39 Ganado destrozado por fieras nunca te llevé: yo pagaba el daño, de lo mío te cobrabas tanto si era yo robado de día como si lo era de noche.
40 How often the scorching heat ravaged me by day, and the frost by night, while sleep fled from my eyes!	40 Estaba yo que de día me devoraba el resistero, y de noche la helada, mientras huía el sueño de mis ojos.
41 Of the twenty years that I have now spent in your household, I slaved fourteen years for your two daughters and six years for your flock, while you changed my wages time after time.	41 Estos fueron mis veinte años en tu casa. Catorce años te serví por tus dos hijas, y seis por tus ovejas, y tú has cambiado mi paga diez veces.
42 If my ancestral God, the God of Abraham and the Awesome One of Isaac, had not been on my side, you would now have sent me away empty-handed. But God saw my plight and the fruits of my toil, and last night he gave judgment."	42 Si el Dios de mi Padre, el Dios de Abraham y el Padrino de Isaac no hubiese estado por mí, a fe que ahora me despacharas de vacío. Mi cuita y la fatiga de mis manos las ha visto Dios y ha dado su fallo ayer noche.»
43 Laban replied to Jacob: "The women are mine, their children are mine, and the flocks are mine; everything you see belongs to me. But since these women are my daughters, I will now do something for them and for the children they have borne.	43 Respondió Labán y dijo a Jacob: «Estas hijas son mías, estos hijos son mis hijos, y estas ovejas mis ovejas, todo cuanto ves, mío es. Y, ¿qué voy a hacerles hoy a estas mis hijas?, ¿o a los hijos que me dieron?
44 Come, then, we will make a pact, you and I; the LORD shall be a witness between us."	44 Ea, pues, ven y hagamos un pacto entre los dos..., y sirva de testigo entre nosotros dos.»
45 Then Jacob took a stone and set it up as a memorial stone.	45 Jacob tomó una piedra y la erigió como estela.
46 Jacob said to his kinsmen, "Gather some stones." So they got some stones and made a mound; and they had a meal there at the mound.	46 Y dijo Jacob a sus hermanos: «Recoged piedras.» Tomaron piedras, hicieron un majano y comieron allí sobre el majano.
47 Laban called it Jegar-sahadutha, but Jacob named it Galeed.	47 Labán lo llamó Yegar Sahdutá, y Jacob lo llamó Galed.
48 "This mound," said Laban, "shall be a witness from now on between you and me." That is why it was named Galeed--	48 Labán dijo: «Este majano es hoy testigo entre nosotros dos.» Por eso le llamó Galed,
49 and also Mizpah, for he said: "May the LORD keep watch between you and me when we are out of each other's sight.	49 y también Mispá, pues dijo: «Que Yahveh nos vigile a los dos, cuando nos alejemos el uno del otro.
50 If you mistreat my daughters, or take other wives besides my daughters, remember that even though no one else is about, God will be witness between you and me."	50 Si tú humillas a mis hijas, si tomas otras mujeres, además de mis hijas, bien que nadie esté con nosotros que nos vea, sea Dios testigo entre los dos.»
51 Laban said further to Jacob: "Here is this mound, and here is the memorial stone that I have set up between you and me.	51 Dijo Labán a Jacob: «Aquí está este majano, y aquí esta estela que he erigido entre nosotros dos.
52 This mound shall be witness, and this memorial stone shall be witness, that, with hostile intent, neither may I pass beyond this mound into your territory, nor may you pass beyond it into mine.	52 Testigo sea este majano, y testigo sea esta estela de que yo no he de traspasar este majano hacia ti, ni tú has de traspasar este majano y esta estela hacia mí para nada malo.
53 May the God of Abraham and the god of Nahor (their ancestral deities) maintain justice between us!" Jacob took the oath by the Awesome One of Isaac.	53 El Dios de Abraham y el Dios de Najor juzguen entre nosotros.» Y Jacob juró por el Padrino de su padre Isaac.
54 He then offered a sacrifice on the mountain and invited his kinsmen to share in the meal. When they had eaten, they passed the night on the mountain.	54 Jacob hizo un sacrificio en el monte e invitó a sus hermanos a tomar parte. Ellos tomaron parte, e hicieron noche en el monte.
