Giona 2

BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E il Signore avea preparato un gran pesce, affinchè questo ingoiasse Giona: e Giona stette nel ventre del pesce tre dì, e tre notti.	1 Now Yahweh ordained that a great fish should swal ow Jonah; and Jonah remained in the bel y of thefish for three days and three nights.
2 E dal ventre del pesce Giona ricorse al Signore Dio suo;	2 From the bel y of the fish, Jonah prayed to Yahweh, his God; he said:
3 E disse: Nella mia tribolazione ho alzata la mia voce al Signore, ed egli mi ha esaudito: dal seno del sepolcro ho gridato, e tu hai esaudita la mia voce.	3 Out of my distress I cried to Yahweh and he answered me, from the bel y of Sheol I cried out; you heardmy voice!
4 E tu mi hai gettato nel profondo, nell'abisso del mare, e le acque mi circondarono; tutti i tuoi gorghi, e tutti i tuoi flutti mi han ricoperto.	4 For you threw me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the floods closed round me. Al yourwaves and bil ows passed over me;
5 E io dissi: Sono stato gettato lungi dal guardo degli occhi tuoi: con tutto ciò io vedrò di bel nuovo il tuo tempio santo.	5 then I thought, 'I am banished from your sight; how shal I ever see your holy Temple again?'
6 Mi han circondato fino all'anima le acque; l'abisso mi ha serrato, il pelago ha sepolto il mio capo.	6 The waters round me rose to my neck, the deep was closing round me, seaweed twining round myhead.
7 Sono sceso sino ai fondamenti delle montagne: le sbarre della terra mi hanno rinchiuso per sempre; ma tu dalla corruzione trarrai la mia vita, o Signore Dio mio.	7 To the roots of the mountains, I sank into the underworld, and its bars closed round me for ever. But youraised my life from the Pit, Yahweh my God!
8 Nelle angustie dell'anima mia mi son ricordato del Signore, per rivolgere la mia orazione a te, al tuo tempio santo.	8 When my soul was growing ever weaker, Yahweh, I remembered you, and my prayer reached you inyour holy Temple.
9 Coloro, che inutilmente rispettano le vanità, abbandonano la loro misericordia.	9 Some abandon their faithful love by worshipping false gods,
10 Ma io la voce di laude offerirò a te in sacrifizio: renderò al Signore tutti i voto fatti per la mia salvazione.	10 but I shal sacrifice to you with songs of praise. The vow I have made I shall fulfil! Salvation comesfrom Yahweh!
11 Or il Signore fece comando al pesce, e questo vomitò Giona alla riva.	11 Yahweh spoke to the fish, which then vomited Jonah onto the dry land.
