1 But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness.	1 Azt tettem fel magamban, hogy nem megyek ismét szomorúsággal hozzátok.
2 For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?	2 Mert ha én megszomorítlak titeket, ugyan ki az, aki megörvendeztet engem, ha az nem, akit én megszomorítok?
3 And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.	3 És arról a dologról is azért írtam nektek, hogy amikor majd odamegyek, ne érjen engem szomorúság azok miatt, akiknek örülnöm kellene, mert meggyőződésem mindnyájatokról, hogy az én örömöm mindnyájatok öröme.
4 For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.	4 Hiszen szívemnek nagy szorongattatásából és aggodalmából írtam nektek sok könnyhullatás közepette, nem azért, hogy szomorúságot okozzak nektek, hanem hogy megismerjétek, milyen szeretettel vagyok elsősorban irántatok.
5 But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all.	5 Ha nekem valaki szomorúságot okozott, nem engem szomorított meg, hanem részben, hogy ne túlozzak, mindnyájatokat.
6 Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many.	6 Elég az ilyennek az a büntetés, amely a többség részéről érte.
7 So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.	7 Most pedig, éppen ellenkezőleg, inkább bocsássatok meg neki, és vigasztaljátok meg, hogy a nagyon mély bánat valamiképpen el ne eméssze őt.
8 Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.	8 Éppen ezért kérlek titeket, tanúsítsatok iránta szeretetet.
9 For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.	9 Hiszen azért is írtam, hogy próbára tegyelek titeket, és megtudjam, vajon mindenben engedelmesek vagytok-e?
10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;	10 Akinek pedig ti megbocsátotok valamit, annak én is megbocsátok; mert én is, amikor megbocsátottam, ha volt mit megbocsátanom, azt értetek tettem Krisztus színe előtt,
11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.	11 hogy be ne hálózzon minket a sátán, mert nem ismeretlenek előttünk az ő szándékai.
12 Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord,	12 Amikor Troászba érkeztem Krisztus evangéliumának hirdetésére, bár a kapu nyitva volt előttem az Úrban,
13 I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went from thence into Macedonia.	13 nem volt nyugalma lelkemnek, mert nem találtam ott Títusz testvéremet, azért búcsút vettem tőlük, és Makedóniába mentem.
14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.	14 De hála legyen Istennek, aki mindig diadalra segít minket Krisztusban, és az ő ismeretének jó illatát minden helyen elterjeszti általunk!
15 For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:	15 Mert Krisztus jó illata vagyunk az Istenért azok közt, akik üdvözülnek, és azok közt is, akik elvesznek.
16 To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?	16 Ezeknek halált hozó halotti szag, azoknak pedig az élet éltető illata. De ki alkalmas erre?
17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.	17 Mert mi nem vagyunk olyanok, mint igen sokan, akik meghamisítják Isten igéjét, hanem őszintén, mintegy Istenből beszélünk, Isten előtt, Krisztusban.
