1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.	1 Je peux bien parler les langues des hommes, et aussi celles des anges, si je n’ai pas l’amour, je suis comme la trompette ou la cymbale: du bruit et rien de plus.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.	2 Je peux prophétiser et découvrir tous les mystères et le plus haut savoir; je peux avoir la foi parfaite jusqu’à transporter les montagnes; si je n’ai pas l’amour je ne suis rien.
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.	3 Et si je donne tout ce que j’ai, si je me sacrifie moi-même, mais pour en tirer gloire et sans avoir l’amour, cela ne me sert de rien.
4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,	4 L’amour sait attendre, l’amour est compréhensif et il n’est pas jaloux. L’amour ne s’enfle pas, il ne se fait pas valoir;
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;	5 il n’a rien que de noble et ne cherche pas son intérêt. Il ne se met pas en colère, et il oublie le mal.
6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;	6 Il ne se réjouit jamais de ce qui est injuste et prend plaisir à la vérité.
7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.	7 Il résiste à tout, il croit tout, espère tout et supporte tout.
8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.	8 L’amour ne passera pas, tandis que les prophéties auront un terme, et les langues cesseront, et le plus haut savoir sera oublié.
9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.	9 Car le savoir est partiel et la prophétie ne dit pas tout.
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.	10 Quand viendra ce qui est parfait, tout ce qui est partiel sera éliminé.
11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.	11 Quand j’étais enfant, je parlais comme les petits enfants, je jugeais et je raisonnais comme les petits enfants. Mais quand je suis devenu adulte, j’ai abandonné toutes les choses de l’enfant.
12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.	12 Aujourd’hui nous voyons les choses comme dans un mauvais miroir, et il faut les deviner. Mais un jour je verrai face à face. Aujourd’hui je connais en partie, mais un jour je connaîtrai comme je suis connu.
13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.	13 Pour l’instant, donc, ce qui vaut c’est la foi, l’espérance et l’amour. Mais le plus grand des trois est l’amour.
