1 And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams.	1 Bileam sprach zu Balak: "Erbaue mir hier sieben Altäre und richte mir daselbst sieben Jungstiere und sieben Widder her!"
2 And Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.	2 Balak tat, wie Bileam verlangt hatte, und beide brachten je einen Stier und einen Widder auf den Altären dar.
3 And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt offering, and I will go: peradventure the LORD will come to meet me: and whatsoever he sheweth me I will tell thee. And he went to an high place.	3 Bileam sagte zu Balak: "Bleibe stehen bei deinem Brandopfer, ich aber will hingehen, vielleicht begegnet mir der Herr. Was er mich schauen läßt, will ich dir offenbaren."Dann ging er einen einsamen Höhenweg.
4 And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram.	4 Gott begegnete dem Bileam. Dieser sprach zu ihm: "Sieben Altäre habe ich herrichten lassen und brachte auf jedem einen Stier und einen Widder dar."
5 And the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt speak.	5 Der Herr legte dem Bileam ein Wort in den Mund und sprach: "Kehre um zu Balak und rede dementsprechend!"
6 And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab.	6 Er kehrte hierauf zu ihm zurück und fand ihn bei seinem Brandopfer stehend mit allen Moabiterhäuptlingen.
7 And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel.	7 Da begann er seinen Spruch und redete: "Von Aram ließ Balak mich holen, Moabs König von des Ostens Gebirgsland. Komm doch, verfluche mir Jakob! Komm doch, verwünsche Israel!
8 How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied?	8 Wie könnte ich fluchen, wem Gott nicht flucht, wie verwünschen, wen der Herr nicht verwünscht?
9 For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.	9 Vom Felsengipfel erblicke ich es, von den Hügeln werde ich es gewahr: Ein Volk, das ganz für sich wohnt, das sich nicht rechnet unter die Völker.
10 Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!	10 Jakobs Staubkörner, wer kann sie zählen und wer die Sandkörner Israels? Möchte ich sterben den Tod des Gerechten, möchte mein Ende wie ihres sein!"
11 And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether.	11 Balak sprach zu Bileam: "Was hast du mir angetan? Um meine Feinde zu verfluchen, habe ich nach dir geschickt, du aber hast sie in Fülle gesegnet."
12 And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?	12 Jener aber gab zur Antwort: "Muß ich mich nicht an das halten, was der Herr mir in den Mund legt, und es verkünden?"
13 And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse me them from thence.	13 Da sprach Balak zu ihm: "Komm doch mit mir an eine andere Stelle, von wo du das Volk wirklich sehen kannst; du erblickst ja nur den äußersten Teil, aber nicht seine Vollzahl. Dann verfluche es mir von dort aus!"
14 And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.	14 Dann nahm er ihn mit nach dem Späherfeld auf den Gipfel des Pisga, erbaute dort sieben Altäre und brachte auf jedem einen Stier und einen Widder dar.
15 And he said unto Balak, Stand here by thy burnt offering, while I meet the LORD yonder.	15 Jener aber sagte zu Balak: "Bleibe hier bei deinem Brandopfer stehen; ich aber will dort auf eine Gottesbegegnung warten."
16 And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balak, and say thus.	16 Da begegnete der Herr dem Bileam, legte ihm ein Wort in den Mund und sprach: "Kehre zurück zu Balak und rede dementsprechend!"
17 And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath the LORD spoken?	17 Er begab sich zu ihm; dieser aber stand immer noch beim Brandopfer mit den Moabiterhäuptlingen zusammen. Balak fragte ihn: "Was hat der Herr gesprochen?"
18 And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor:	18 Da begann er seinen Spruch und sagte: "Wohlan, Balak, vernimm es, merke auf mich, Sohn Zippors!
19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?	19 Nicht Mensch ist Gott, daß er lügt, nicht Menschensohn, daß er bereut. Verheißt er denn und tut es nicht, spricht er etwas und führt es nicht aus?
20 Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.	20 Siehe, zu segnen habe ich den Auftrag; ich segne und nehme es nicht zurück.
21 He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them.	21 In Jakob erblickt man nichts von Leid, schaut keine Mühsal in Israel! Der Herr ist mit ihm, sein Gott, Königsjubel ertönt bei ihm!
22 God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.	22 Gott führte sie aus Ägypten; wie des Wildochsen Hörner ist er für sie.
23 Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!	23 Ja, es gibt keinen Zauberspruch gegen Jakob, keine Wahrsagekunst gegen Israel. Zur rechten Zeit wird von Jakob verkündet und von Israel, was Gott getan hat.
24 Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain.	24 Welch ein Volk! Wie eine Löwin springt es auf, wie ein Löwe reckt es sich empor. Nicht legt es sich nieder, ehe es Beute verzehrt, das Blut der Erschlagenen getrunken hat."
25 And Balak said unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.	25 Balak sprach nun zu Bileam: "Wenn du es schon nicht verfluchen kannst, so solltest du es doch wenigstens nicht segnen!"
26 But Balaam answered and said unto Balak, Told not I thee, saying, All that the LORD speaketh, that I must do?	26 Bileam aber erwiderte dem Balak: "Habe ich dir nicht gesagt: alles, was der Herr redet, werde ich tun?"
27 And Balak said unto Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place; peradventure it will please God that thou mayest curse me them from thence.	27 Balak sprach zu Bileam: "Komm doch, ich bringe dich an einen anderen Ort! Vielleicht gefällt es Gott, daß du es mir von dort aus verfluchst."
28 And Balak brought Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looketh toward Jeshimon.	28 Balak nahm den Bileam mit auf den Gipfel des Peor, der auf das Ödland hinabschaut.
29 And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.	29 Bileam sprach zu Balak: "Erbaue mir hier sieben Altäre und richte mir daselbst sieben Jungstiere und sieben Widder her!"
30 And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.	30 Balak tat, wie Bileam verlangte. Er brachte auf jedem Altar einen Stier und einen Widder dar.
