1 And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams.	1 E Balaam disse a Balac: « Alzami qui sette altari, e preparami sette vitelli e sette montoni ».
2 And Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.	2 Eseguiti gli ordini di Balaam, posero insieme un vitello e un montone sopra, ciascun altare.
3 And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt offering, and I will go: peradventure the LORD will come to meet me: and whatsoever he sheweth me I will tell thee. And he went to an high place.	3 E Balaam disse a Balac: « Sta un poco presso il tuo olocausto, che io vado a vedere se mi viene incontro il Signore, e e poi ti riferirò tutto quello che m'imporrà ».
4 And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram.	4 Ed essendo egli partito in fretta, gli venne incontro Dio. E Balaam gli disse: « Ho eretti sette altari, ed ho messo sopra ciascuno un vitello e un montone ».
5 And the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt speak.	5 E il Signore mise la parola nella sua bocca e disse: « Torna, a Balac e parla così ».
6 And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab.	6 Ed egli tornato a Balac, lo trovò in piedi presso il suo olocausto con tutti i principi dei Moabiti;
7 And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel.	7 e presa la parola disse: « Da Aram mi ha fatto venire Balac, il re dei Moabiti, dalle montagne d'Oriente: Vieni, mi disse, madelici, Giacobbe, affrettati e detesta Israele.
8 How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied?	8 Come maledirò colui che Dio non ha maledetto? Come detesterò colui che il Signore non detesta?
9 For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.	9 Io lo guardo dalle sommità delle rupi, lo contemplo dalle colline: questo è un popolo che se ne starà solo e non sarà annoverato tra le altre nazioni.
10 Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!	10 Chi può contare la polvere di Giacobbe e sapere il numero della stirpe d'Israele? Che io muoia della morte dei giusti, e il mio fine sia simile al loro ».
11 And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether.	11 E Balac disse a Balaam: « Ma che tu mi fai? T'ho chiamato a maledire i miei nemici, e invece, li benedici. »
12 And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?	12 Balaam gli rispose: « Posso forse dir altro al di fuori di quello che il signore ha comandato?
13 And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse me them from thence.	13 E Balac allora gli disse: « Vieni con me in un altro luogo da cui tu vegga una parte d'Israele, ma non tutto, e di lì lo maledirai ».
14 And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.	14 E lo condusse in un luogo elevato, sulla cima del monte Easga ove Balaam, eletti sette altari e posto sopra ciascuno un vitello e un montone,
15 And he said unto Balak, Stand here by thy burnt offering, while I meet the LORD yonder.	15 disse a Balam: Sta qui presso al tuo olocausto che io gli andrò incontro ».
16 And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balak, and say thus.	16 E il Signore gli venne incontro e, messagli la parola in bocca, gli disse: « Ritorna a Balac e parla così».
17 And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath the LORD spoken?	17 Balaam, tornato da Baine, lo trovò che stava in piedi presso il suo olocausto insieme coi principi dei Moabiti. E Baine gli disse: « Che ha detto il Signore? »
18 And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor:	18 Allora, Balaam, presa la sua, parabola, disse: a Levati, o Balac e ascolta, stammi a sentire, o figlio di Iefar:
19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?	19 Dio non è come l'uomo che può mentire, nè come il figlio dell'uomo che può mutarsi. Quando ha detto una cosa, senza poi farla? Quando ha parlato, non manterrà la parola!
20 Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.	20 Son costretto a benedire, e non posso impedire la benedizione.
21 He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them.	21 Non v'è idolo in Giacobbe, non apparisce simulacro in Israele: il Signore suo Dio è con lui, e in lui è lo squillo della vittoria del re.
22 God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.	22 Dio lo trasse dall'Egitto; la sua, forza è simile a quella del rinoceronte;
23 Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!	23 non v'è magia in Giacobbe, nè divinazione in Israele. Si dirà a suo tempo a Giacobbe, a Israele ciò che ha fatto il Signore.
24 Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain.	24 Ecco un popolo si leverà qual leonessa, e si alzerà come leone: non si sdraierà, finche non abbia divorata la preda e bevuto il sangue degli uccisi ».
25 And Balak said unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.	25 Allora Balac disse a Balaam: « Se non vuoi maledirlo, almeno non lo benedire! »
26 But Balaam answered and said unto Balak, Told not I thee, saying, All that the LORD speaketh, that I must do?	26 Ma egli rispose: « Non te l'ho detto che avrei fatto tutto quello che il Signore comandasse? »
27 And Balak said unto Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place; peradventure it will please God that thou mayest curse me them from thence.	27 E Balac disse a Balaam: « Vieni, ti condurrò in un altro luogo, se mai piacesse a Dio che tu li maledica di la ».
28 And Balak brought Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looketh toward Jeshimon.	28 E Io condusse sulla cima, del monte Fogor, che guarda il deserto;
29 And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.	29 Ove Balam gli disse: « Edificami qui sette altari e prepara sette vitelli e setti montoni ».
30 And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.	30 Balac fece secondo gli ordini di Balaam è pose un vitello e un montone sopra ciascun altare.
