1 And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams.	1 E disse Balaam a Balac: Alzami qui sette altari, e prepara altrettanti vitelli, e un egualnumero di arieti.
2 And Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.	2 Ed essendo stato fatto, come avea detto Balaam, posero insieme un vitello, e un ariete sopraciascun altare.
3 And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt offering, and I will go: peradventure the LORD will come to meet me: and whatsoever he sheweth me I will tell thee. And he went to an high place.	3 E Balaam disse a Balac: Sta per un poco presso al tuo olocausto, mentre io vo per vedere, sea sorte mi si presenti il Signore, e io ti dirò tutto quello ch'ei mi comanderà.
4 And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram.	4 Ed essendosi egli partito in fretta, se gli fe incontro Dio. E Balaam gli disse: Io hoeretti sette altari, ed ho messo sopra ognuno un vitello, e un ariete.
5 And the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt speak.	5 E il Signore pose nella bocca di lui le parole, e disse: Torna a Balac, e digli questo.
6 And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab.	6 Tornò, e trovò Balac in piedi presso al suo olocausto con tutti i principi de' Moabiti.
7 And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel.	7 E prendendo il suo tuono disse: Balac re de' Moabiti mi ha condotto da Aram da' montid'oriente. Vieni, ha egli detto, e maledici Giacobbe: affrettati, e manda imprecazioni adIsraele.
8 How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied?	8 Come maledirò chi dal Signore non è maledetto? In qual modo manderò imprecazioni a chi non èin odio al Signore?
9 For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.	9 Io lo vedrò dall'alto dei massi, e lo considererò dalle colline. Questo popolo si staràsolo, e non sarà noverato tra le nazioni.
10 Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!	10 Chi potrà contare i granelli della polvere di Giacobbe, e sapere il numero della stirped'Israele? Possa io morire della morte de' giusti, e simile al loro sia il mio fine.
11 And Balak said unto Balaam, What hast thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether.	11 Ma Balac disse a Balaam:Che è quel che tu fai? Io ti ho fatto venire, perché tu maledica imiei nemici: e tu all'opposto li benedici.
12 And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?	12 E quegli rispose a lui: Posso io dir altro che quello che mi ha ordinato il Signore?
13 And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse me them from thence.	13 Disse allor Balac: Vieni meco in altra parte, donde tu vegga una porzione d'Israele, e nonpossa vederlo tutto; e di li lo maledirai.
14 And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.	14 E condottolo in luogo elevato sulla cima del monte Phasga, eresse Balaam sette altari, eposto sopra ciascuno un vitello, e un ariete,
15 And he said unto Balak, Stand here by thy burnt offering, while I meet the LORD yonder.	15 Disse a Balac: Sta qui tu presso al tuo olocausto, mentre io vo ad incontrare (il Signore).
16 And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balak, and say thus.	16 Ed essendogli venuto incontro il Signore, e avendogli messa in bocca la parola, disse:Ritorna a Balac, e di' a lui queste cose.
17 And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath the LORD spoken?	17 E quegli essendo tornato trovò Balac, che stava in piedi presso al suo olocausto insieme co'principi de' Moabiti. E disse a lui Balac: Che ha egli detto il Signore?
18 And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor:	18 Ma quegli preso il suo tuono disse: Sta su, o Balac, e pon mente; porgi le orecchie, ofigliuolo di Sephor:
19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?	19 Dio non è come l'uomo, che può mentire: né come il figliuolo dell'uomo, che può mutarsi.Egli ha detto una cosa, e non là farà? ha parlato, e non manterrà la parola?
20 Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.	20 Sono stato condotto per benedire, e non posso sopprimere la benedizione.
21 He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them.	21 Non v'ha idolo in casa di Giacobbe, e non vedesi simulacro in Israele. Il Signore suo Dio ècon lui, e vi si ode il suono della vittoria del re.
22 God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.	22 Il Signore lo trasse dall'Egitto: egli è simile al rinoceronte nella fortezza.
23 Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!	23 Giacobbe non ha augurii, né indozzamenti Israele. Si racconterà a suo tempo a Giacobbe, e adIsraele, quali cose abbia operate il Signore.
24 Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain.	24 Ecco un popolo, che si leverà su qual lionessa, e come leone si alzerà: non si sdraierà, senon dopo che avrà divorato la preda, e bevuto il sangue degli uccisi.
25 And Balak said unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.	25 E Balac disse a Balaam: Non dar loro maledizione, né benedizione.
26 But Balaam answered and said unto Balak, Told not I thee, saying, All that the LORD speaketh, that I must do?	26 Ma quegli disse: Non ti ho io detto, che avrei fatto tutto quello che il Signore comandasse?
27 And Balak said unto Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place; peradventure it will please God that thou mayest curse me them from thence.	27 E Balac gli disse: Vieni, ti condurrò in altro luogo se mai piacesse a Dio, che di là tu limaledicessi.
28 And Balak brought Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looketh toward Jeshimon.	28 E condottolo sulla cima del monte Phogor, che guarda il deserto,
29 And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.	29 Balaam gli disse: Fammi qui sette altari, e prepara altrettanti vitelli, ed egual numero diarieti.
30 And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.	30 Fece Balac, come avea detto Balaam: e pose i vitelli, e gli arieti uno per ogni altare.
