Ezekiel 18

1 The word of the LORD came unto me again, saying,	1 Il Signore mi parlò e mi disse:
2 What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge?	2 « Perchè tra voi circola questo proverbio a proposito della terra d'Israele, e dite: — I padri mangiarono l'uva acerba e si sono allegati i denti ai figlioli? —
3 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.	3 Io sono il Vivente! — dice il Signore. — Questa parabola non salò più per voi un proverbio in Israele.
4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.	4 Ecco che tutte le anime sono mie, quella del padre, come quelle del figlio, è mia, e morirà l'anima che ha peccato.
5 But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,	5 Se un uomo sarà giusto, e vivrà secondo il diritto e la giustizia:
6 And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour's wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman,	6 se non mangerà sui monti, non alzerà i suoi occhi agli idoli della casa d'Israele, non peccherà colla moglie del suo prossimo, non s'accosterà a donna immonda,
7 And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;	7 non offenderà nessuno, renderà il pegno al debitore, non commetterà rapine, darà il suo pane all'affamato, rivestirà l'ignudo,
8 He that hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man,	8 non presterà ad usura, non riceverà più di quanto ha dato, ritrarrà la sua mano dall'iniquità, giudicherà con verità tra uomo e uomo,
9 Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord GOD.	9 camminerà nei miei precetti e osserverà le mie leggi, operando con fedeltà, questi è giusto e vivrà di vera vita — dice il Signore Dio.
10 If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things,	10 Or se egli avrà un figliolo assassino omicida, che abbia fatto una di questo cose,
11 And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour's wife,	11 anche se non le ha fatte tutte, uno che mangia sui monti, contamina la moglie del suo prossimo;
12 Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,	12 opprime il povero e l'infelice, fa rapine, non rende il pegno, alza gli occhi ai suoi simulacri, commette abominazioni;
13 Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.	13 dà a usura e riceve più di quanto ha dato, avrà forse la vita? No, non l'avrà la vita: avendo fatte tutte queste cose detestabili, egli certamente morrà, e il suo sangue cadrà sopra di lui.
14 Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father's sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,	14 Se questi poi avrà un figliolo il quale, veduti tutti i peccati commessi dal padre, ne abbia spavento, e non lo imiti in questi,
15 That hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbour's wife,	15 e non mangi sui monti, non alzi gli occhi agli idoli della casa d'Israele, non violi la moglie del suo prossimo,
16 Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,	16 non offenda alcuno, non ritenga il pegno, non faccia rapine, dia del suo pane affamato, rivesta l'ignudo,
17 That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.	17 ritenga la sua mano dal fare ingiuria al povero, non prenda ad usura, nè più di quanto ha dato, osservi le mie leggi, cammini nei miei precetti, questi non morrà per l'iniquità del padre suo, ma avrà vera vita.
18 As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.	18 Il padre di lui, perchè calunniò, fece violenze al fratello, fece del male in mezzo al popolo, ecco è morto per la sua iniquità.
19 Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.	19 E voi a dire: — Perchè il figliolo non ha portato l'iniquità di suo padre? — Certamente, perchè il figliolo ha agito secondo la legge e la giustizia, ha custoditi e osservati tutti i miei precetti, avrà vita.
20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.	20 L'anima che ha peccato, quella morrà; e il figlio non porterà l'iniquità del padre, nè il padre, quella del figlio: sul capo del giusto sarà la giustizia e su quello dell'empio l'empietà.
21 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.	21 Ma se l'empio fa penitenza di tutti i suoi peccati che ha fatti, e osserva i miei precetti, e agisce secondo equità e giustizia, avrà la vera vita e non morrà.
22 All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.	22 Non ricorderò più nulla di tutte le iniquità da lui commesse; avrà vita per la giustizia da lui praticata.
23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?	23 Voglio forse la morte del peccatore — dice il Signore Dio — o non piuttosto che egli si converta dal suo malfare e viva?
24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.	24 Ma se il giusto si allontanerà dalla sua giustizia e commetterà l'iniquità, secondo le abominazioni proprie dell'empio, potrà aver la vita? Tutte le opere buone da lui fatte saran dimenticate, a causa della trasgressione di cui s'è reso colpevole, e del peccato da lui commesso, a causa di questo morrà.
25 Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?	25 Voi avete detto: — il modo di fare del Signore non è giusto. — Udite dunque, o casa d'Israele: è il mio modo di fare che non è giusto, o è piuttosto perverso il vostro?
26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.	26 Infatti, quando il giusto, allontanandosi dalla sua giustizia, peccherà e morrà nel peccato, morrà a causa dell'ingiustizia da lui commessa.
27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.	27 Così, quando l'empio, allontanandosi dall'empietà e dal peccato da lui commesso, praticherà l'equità e la giustizia, egli renderà la vita all'anima sua;
28 Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.	28 quando, tornato in se stesso, si allontanerà da tutte le iniquità che ha fatte, avrà vita e non morrà.
29 Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?	29 E i figli d'Israele a dire: — Il modo d'agire del Signore non è giusto! — Son le mie vie che non son diritte, o casa d'Israele, o son piuttosto storte le vostre?
30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.	30 Per questo, o casa d'Israele, io giudicherò ciascuno secondo il suo modo di agire, — dice il Signore Dio. Convertitevi, fate penitenza di tutte le vostre iniquità, e l'iniquità non sarà più la vostra rovina.
31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?	31 Gettate lungi da voi tutte le trasgressioni da voi commesse, e fatevi un cuor nuovo ed uno spirito nuovo. E perchè andrete a morire, o casa di Israele?
32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.	32 Giacchè io non voglio la morte di colui che muore, — dice il Signore — convertitevi, tornate alla vita ».
