Ezekiel 18

KING JAMES BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 The word of the LORD came unto me again, saying,	1 La parole de Yahvé me fut adressée en ces termes:
2 What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge?	2 Qu'avez-vous à répéter ce proverbe au pays d'Israël: Les pères ont mangé des raisins verts, et lesdents des fils ont été agacées?
3 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.	3 Par ma vie, oracle du Seigneur Yahvé, vous n'aurez plus à répéter ce proverbe en Israël.
4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.	4 Voici: toutes les vies sont à moi, aussi bien la vie du père que celle du fils, elles sont à moi. Celuiqui a péché, c'est lui qui mourra.
5 But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,	5 Quiconque est juste, pratique le droit et la justice,
6 And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour's wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman,	6 ne mange pas sur les montagnes et ne lève pas les yeux vers les ordures de la maison d'Israël, nesouille pas la femme de son prochain, ne s'approche pas d'une femme en son impureté,
7 And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;	7 n'opprime personne, rend le gage d'une dette, ne commet pas de rapines, donne son pain à qui afaim et couvre d'un vêtement celui qui est nu,
8 He that hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man,	8 ne prête pas avec usure, ne prend pas d'intérêts, détourne sa main du mal, rend un jugementvéridique entre les hommes,
9 Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord GOD.	9 se conduit selon mes lois et observe mes coutumes en agissant selon la vérité, un tel homme estjuste, il vivra, oracle du Seigneur Yahvé.
10 If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things,	10 Mais s'il engendre un fils violent et sanguinaire qui commet une de ces fautes,
11 And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour's wife,	11 alors que lui n'en a commis aucune, un fils qui va jusqu'à manger sur les montagnes et souiller lafemme de son prochain,
12 Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,	12 qui opprime le pauvre et le malheureux, commet des rapines, ne rend pas le gage, lève les yeuxvers les ordures, commet l'abomination,
13 Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.	13 prête avec usure et prend des intérêts, celui-ci ne vivra pas après avoir commis tous ces crimesabominables, il mourra et son sang sera sur lui.
14 Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father's sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,	14 Mais si celui-ci engendre un fils qui voit tous les péchés qu'a commis son père, qui les voit sansles imiter,
15 That hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbour's wife,	15 qui ne mange pas sur les montagnes, ne lève pas les yeux vers les ordures de la maison d'Israël,ne souille pas la femme de son prochain,
16 Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,	16 n'opprime personne, ne prend pas de gages, ne commet pas de rapines, donne son pain à qui afaim, couvre d'un vêtement celui qui est nu,
17 That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.	17 détourne sa main de l'injustice, ne pratique pas l'usure et ne prend pas d'intérêts, pratique mescoutumes et se conduit selon mes lois, celui-ci ne mourra pas à cause des fautes de son père, il vivra.
18 As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.	18 Mais son père, puisqu'il a été violent, a commis des rapines et n'a pas bien agi au milieu de sonpeuple, voici qu'il mourra à cause de sa faute.
19 Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.	19 Et vous dites: "Pourquoi le fils ne porte-t-il pas la faute de son père?" Mais le fils a pratiqué ledroit et la justice, a observé mes lois et les a pratiquées, il doit vivre.
20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.	20 Celui qui a péché, c'est lui qui mourra! Un fils ne portera pas la faute de son père ni un père lafaute de son fils: au juste sera imputée sa justice et au méchant sa méchanceté.
21 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.	21 Quant au méchant, s'il renonce à tous les péchés qu'il a commis, observe toutes mes lois etpratique le droit et la justice, il vivra, il ne mourra pas.
22 All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.	22 On ne se souviendra plus de tous les crimes qu'il a commis, il vivra à cause de la justice qu'il apratiquée.
23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?	23 Prendrais-je donc plaisir à la mort du méchant - oracle du Seigneur Yahvé - et non pas plutôt à levoir renoncer à sa conduite et vivre?
24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.	24 Mais si le juste renonce à sa justice et commet le mal, imitant toutes les abominations quecommet le méchant, vivra-t-il? On ne se souviendra plus de toute la justice qu'il a pratiquée, mais à cause del'infidélité dont il s'est rendu coupable et du péché qu'il a commis, il mourra.
25 Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?	25 Et vous dites: "La manière d'agir du Seigneur n'est pas juste." Ecoutez donc, maison d'Israël: est-ce ma manière d'agir qui n'est pas juste? N'est-ce pas votre manière d'agir qui n'est pas juste?
26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.	26 Si le juste se détourne de sa justice pour commettre le mal et meurt, c'est à cause du mal qu'il acommis qu'il meurt.
27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.	27 Et si le pécheur se détourne du péché qu'il a commis, pour pratiquer le droit et la justice, il assuresa vie.
28 Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.	28 Il a choisi de se détourner de tous les crimes qu'il avait commis, il vivra, il ne mourra pas.
29 Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?	29 Et pourtant la maison d'Israël dit: "La manière d'agir du Seigneur n'est pas juste."
30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.	30 C'est pourquoi je vous jugerai chacun selon sa manière d'agir, maison d'Israël, oracle duSeigneur Yahvé. Convertissez-vous et détournez-vous de tous vos crimes, qu'il n'y ait plus pour vous d'occasionde mal.
31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?	31 Débarrassez-vous de tous les crimes que vous avez commis et faites-vous un coeur nouveau etun esprit nouveau. Pourquoi mourir, maison d'Israël?
32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.	32 Je ne prends pas plaisir à la mort de qui que ce soit, oracle du Seigneur Yahvé. Convertissez-vous et vivez!
