Ezekiel 18

1 The word of the LORD came unto me again, saying,	1 Akkor az Úr ezt a szózatot intézte hozzám:
2 What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge?	2 »Mi dolog az, hogy közmondássá lett közöttetek Izrael földjén az a mondás, amely így szól: ‘Az atyák ették meg a savanyú szőlőt, és a fiak foga vásik el tőle?’
3 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.	3 Életemre mondom, én, az Úr Isten: Nem lesz számotokra többé közmondás ez a mondás Izraelben!
4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.	4 Íme, minden lélek az enyém; miként az apa lelke, úgy a fiú lelke is az enyém; amely lélek vétkezett, az hal meg.
5 But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,	5 Mert ha egy férfi igaz lesz, jog és igazság szerint jár,
6 And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour's wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman,	6 nem eszik a hegyeken és nem emeli szemét Izrael házának bálványaira, nem gyalázza meg társának feleségét és nem közeledik havi tisztulásban szenvedő asszonyhoz,
7 And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;	7 nem nyom el senkit sem, visszaadja a zálogot az adósnak, semmit sem vesz el erőszakkal, kenyerét odaadja az éhezőnek és ruhájával betakarja a mezítelent,
8 He that hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man,	8 nem kölcsönöz kamatra és nem fogad el ráadást, elfordítja kezét a gonoszságtól és igazságos ítéletet hoz az emberek között,
9 Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord GOD.	9 parancsaim szerint jár és megtartja ítéleteimet, hogy igazságot cselekedjék: az ilyen ember igaz, és biztosan életben marad – mondja az Úr Isten. –
10 If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things,	10 Ha azonban a gonosz fiút nemz, aki vért ont és ezek közül bármit elkövet,
11 And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour's wife,	11 vagy ha nem is követi el mindezeket, de eszik a hegyeken és meggyalázza társának feleségét,
12 Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,	12 elnyomja a szűkölködőt és a szegényt, zsákmányt rabol, nem adja vissza a zálogot, szemét a bálványokra emeli, utálatosságokat cselekszik,
13 Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.	13 kamatra ad és ráadást fogad el: vajon élni fog-e? Nem fog élni! Mivel mindezeket az utálatos dolgokat elkövette, halállal hal meg, s az ő vére rajta lesz!
14 Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father's sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,	14 De ha ez egy olyan fiút nemz, aki apja minden elkövetett bűnének láttára félelemre gerjed és nem követ el azokhoz hasonlót,
15 That hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbour's wife,	15 nem eszik a hegyeken és nem emeli szemét Izrael házának bálványaira, meg nem gyalázza társának feleségét,
16 Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,	16 nem nyom el senkit sem, nem tartja vissza a zálogot és nem rabol zsákmányt, kenyerét az éhezőnek adja és ruhájával befödi a mezítelent,
17 That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.	17 visszatartja kezét a szegénynek bántalmazásától, nem fogad el kamatot és ráadást, megcselekszi ítéleteimet és parancsaim szerint jár: az ilyen nem hal meg apja gonoszsága miatt, hanem biztosan életben marad.
18 As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.	18 Az apja, mivel erőszakos volt, megrabolta testvérét és gonoszat cselekedett népe körében, íme, meghal gonoszsága miatt.
19 Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.	19 Ti pedig így szóltok: ‘Miért nem viseli a fiú apja gonoszságát?’ Azért, mert a fiú jog és igazság szerint járt, minden parancsomat megtartotta és megtette; ezért biztosan életben marad.
20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.	20 Aki vétkezik, az hal meg. A fiú nem viseli atyja gonoszságát, és az apa nem viseli fia gonoszságát; az igaznak igazsága önmagán lesz, és az istentelennek istentelensége is önmagán lesz.
21 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.	21 Ha azonban a gonosz bűnbánatot tart minden elkövetett vétke fölött, megtartja minden parancsomat, és jog és igazság szerint jár: biztosan életben marad és nem hal meg;
22 All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.	22 egyetlen elkövetett gonoszságáról sem emlékezem meg; igazságáért, amelyet cselekedett, élni fog.
23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?	23 Vajon a gonosznak halálát akarom-e – mondja az Úr Isten –, és nem inkább azt, hogy megtérjen útjairól és éljen?
24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.	24 Ha pedig az igaz elfordul igazságától és gonoszságot cselekszik mindazon utálatosságok szerint, amiket az istentelen el szokott követni, vajon élni fog-e? Semmiféle igazsága nem lesz emlékezetben, amit cselekedett; hűtlensége miatt, amit elkövetett, és bűne miatt, mellyel vétkezett, ezek miatt meg fog halni.
25 Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?	25 Ti pedig azt mondjátok: ‘Nem igazságos az Úr útja!’ Halljátok tehát, Izrael háza: Vajon az én utam nem igazságos-e, és nem inkább a ti útjaitok gonoszak?
26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.	26 Mert ha az igaz elfordul igazságától, és gonoszságot követ el és abban hal meg, igazságtalanságában hal meg, amit elkövetett.
27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.	27 És amikor az istentelen megtér istentelenségétől, amelyet elkövetett, és jog és igazság szerint jár el, megtartja életét.
28 Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.	28 Mivel magába szállt és elfordult minden gonoszságától, amit elkövetett, biztosan életben marad és nem hal meg.
29 Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?	29 De Izrael fiai mégis azt mondják: ‘Nem igazságos az Úr útja!’ Vajon az én útjaim nem igazságosak-e, Izrael háza, és nem inkább a ti útjaitok gonoszak?
30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.	30 Azért tehát mindenkit a saját útjai szerint ítélek majd meg, Izrael háza! – mondja az Úr Isten. – Térjetek meg és tartsatok bűnbánatot minden gonoszságtok fölött, és nem lesz romlástokra a gonoszság.
31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?	31 Vessétek el magatoktól minden törvényszegéseteket, amit elkövettetek, és szerezzetek magatoknak új szívet és új lelket! Miért is halnátok meg, Izrael háza?
32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.	32 Mert nem akarom én a halandó halálát – mondja az Úr Isten –, térjetek meg, hogy éljetek!
