Ezekiel 18

1 The word of the LORD came unto me again, saying,	1 - E il Signore mi comunicò la sua parola dicendo:
2 What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge?	2 «Che vuol dire che tra voi andate applicando alla terra d'Israele quel proverbio che dice: " I padri mangiarono l'uva acerba e i denti dei figli si sono allegati? "
3 As I live, saith the Lord GOD, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.	3 Vivo io, dice il Signore Dio, che questo detto non applicherete più oltre in proverbio a Israele.
4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.	4 Ecco che tutte le anime sono mie, come l'anima del padre così l'anima del figlio è mia; l'anima che avrà peccato, quella morirà.
5 But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,	5 E l'uomo, se si manterrà giusto e praticherà i doveri di giustizia,
6 And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour's wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman,	6 se non mangerà sui monti e non alzerà gli occhi agl'idoli della casa d'Israele; se non violenterà la moglie del suo prossimo e non si accosterà alla donna nelle sue ricorrenze;
7 And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;	7 se non farà torto ad alcuno; se restituirà il pegno al debitore e nulla rapirà per forza; se dividerà il suo pane con chi ha fame e darà da vestire all'ignudo;
8 He that hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man,	8 e se non presterà a usura e non esigerà più del dovuto; se si ritrarrà dall'accettare di sotto mano a scopo iniquo; se farà giudizio secondo verità tra uomo e uomo;
9 Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord GOD.	9 se camminerà nei miei precetti e osserverà le mie leggi per operar coscienziosamente; questi è giusto, vivrà, dice il Signore Dio.
10 If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things,	10 Che se costui avrà generato un figlio, ladrone, spargitore di sangue; che commetta qualcuno dei sopraddetti delitti;
11 And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour's wife,	11 e mentre il padre non ne commette alcuno, questo figlio intervenga a mangiare sui monti; contamini la moglie del suo prossimo;
12 Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,	12 maltratti il povero e il bisognoso; compia delle rapine; si rifiuti di rendere il pegno; alzi i suoi occhi agl'idoli e faccia cose abominevoli,
13 Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.	13 esercitando le usure ed esigendo più del debito: vivrà costui? No, non vivrà, avendo egli compiuto tutte queste cose detestabili: morirà, morirà; porterà con sè le conseguenze della sua colpa.
14 Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father's sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,	14 Che se uno avrà generato un figlio il quale, vedendo tutti i peccati che suo padre ha commesso, concepirà timore e non farà il somigliante;
15 That hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbour's wife,	15 non mangerà sui monti, non alzerà i suoi occhi agl'idoli della casa d'Israele; e non violerà la moglie del suo prossimo;
16 Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,	16 non maltratterà alcuno, non riterrà il pegno, non farà rapine; darà il suo pane all'affamato e da vestire all'ignudo;
17 That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.	17 ritirerà la sua mano dal prendere per far torto al povero; non esigerà usura e interessi; osserverà le mie leggi e camminerà nei miei precetti: questi non morrà nell'iniquità del padre suo, ma vivrà.
18 As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.	18 Quel padre che ha fatto torto e violenza al fratello e ha operato malamente in mezzo al suo popolo, ecco, è morto nella sua iniquità.
19 Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.	19 Voi direte: - Perchè il figlio non portò la pena dell'iniquità del padre? - È chiaro, giacchè il figlio ha compiuto i suoi doveri e la giustizia e ha osservato tutti i miei precetti mettendoli in pratica, vivrà.
20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.	20 L'anima che avrà peccato, quella morrà, il figlio non porterà l'iniquità del padre e il padre non porterà l'iniquità del figlio; la giustizia del giusto sarà a carico suo e così l'empietà dell'empio sarà a carico suo.
21 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.	21 Se poi l'empio farà penitenza di tutti i peccati che ha commessi e osserverà tutti i miei precetti e compirà i suoi doveri e la giustizia, vivrà e non morrà.
22 All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.	22 Di tutti i mancamenti che ha commessi io più nulla ricorderò; nella pratica della sua giustizia egli vivrà.
23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?	23 Potrei io volere la morte dell'empio, dice il Signore Dio, e non piuttosto che si converta dalla sua mala condotta e viva?
24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.	24 Ma se il giusto avrà traviato dalla sua giustizia e avrà iniquamente operato secondo tutte le abominazioni che l'empio commetter suole, potrà vivere? Tutte le sue opere giuste che avrà compiute non saranno più ricordate; nella prevaricazione in cui ha traviato e nel suo peccato che ha commesso, in questi morrà.
25 Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?	25 E voi avete detto: - No, la maniera di proceder del Signore non è giusta! - Ascoltatemi allora, o casa d'Israele: sarà il modo mio di procedere che non è giusto o non piuttosto saranno i vostri modi che non son giusti?
26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.	26 Ogni qual volta il giusto avrà traviato dalla sua giustizia e avrà commesso cose inique, in quelle morrà, nell'ingiustizia che ha operato morirà.
27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.	27 E ogni qual volta l'empio si sarà ritratto dall'empietà che aveva commesso e compirà i suoi doveri e la giustizia, farà vivere l'anima sua.
28 Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.	28 Coll'aver riflettuto ed essersi ritratto da tutte le iniquità che aveva operato, vivrà e non morrà.
29 Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?	29 Ma i figli d'Israele dicono: - La maniera di procedere del Signore non è giusta. - Come! le mie maniere non sono giuste, o casa di Israele, o non sarebbero le vostre piuttosto che non sono giuste?
30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.	30 Sicuro, io vi giudicherò uno per uno secondo le vostre azioni, o casa d'Israele, dice il Signore Dio. Convertitevi e fate penitenza di tutte le vostre iniquità e l'iniquità non sarà a vostra ruina.
31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?	31 Rigettate da voi tutte le prevaricazioni vostre nelle quali avete traviato e formatevi un cuor nuovo e uno spirito nuovo; perchè dovreste perire, o casa d'Israele?
32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.	32 Io non ho piacere di veder perire uno, dice il Signore Dio, ritornate indietro e vivrete.
