Sirach 49

1 The remembrance of Josias is like the composition of the perfume that is made by the art of the apothecary: it is sweet as honey in all mouths, and as musick at a banquet of wine.	1 La mémoire de Josias est comme un mélange odorant, composé par le parfumeur.
2 He behaved himself uprightly in the conversion of the people, and took away the abominations of iniquity.	2 Son souvenir sera doux à la bouche de tous comme le miel, et comme la musique dans un festin où l'on boit du vin.
3 He directed his heart unto the Lord, and in the time of the ungodly he established the worship of God.	3 Il fut destiné de Dieu à exciter le peuple à la pénitence, et il enleva les abominations de l'impiété.
4 All, except David and Ezekias and Josias, were defective: for they forsook the law of the most High, even the kings of Juda failed.	4 Il dirigea son coeur vers le Seigneur, et dans un temps de pécheurs il affermit la piété.
5 Therefore he gave their power unto others, and their glory to a strange nation.	5 A part David, Ezéchias et Josias, tous ont commis le péché;
6 They burnt the chosen city of the sanctuary, and made the streets desolate, according to the prophecy of Jeremias.	6 car les rois de Juda ont abandonné la loi du Très-Haut, et méprisé la crainte de Dieu.
7 For they entreated him evil, who nevertheless was a prophet, sanctified in his mother's womb, that he might root out, and afflict, and destroy; and that he might build up also, and plant.	7 Ils ont livré leur royaume à d'autres, et leur gloire à une nation étrangère.
8 It was Ezekiel who saw the glorious vision, which was shewed him upon the chariot of the cherubims.	8 Ils ont fait incendier la ville choisie, la ville sainte, et ils ont rendu ses rues désertes, selon la prédiction de Jérémie.
9 For he made mention of the enemies under the figure of the rain, and directed them that went right.	9 Car ils maltraitèrent celui qui avait été consacré prophète dès le sein de sa mère pour renverser, détruire, perdre, et ensuite rebâtir et renouveler.
10 And of the twelve prophets let the memorial be blessed, and let their bones flourish again out of their place: for they comforted Jacob, and delivered them by assured hope.	10 Ezéchiel eut la vision de gloire que le Seigneur lui montra dans le char des chérubins.
11 How shall we magnify Zorobabel? even he was as a signet on the right hand:	11 Car il annonça la pluie pour les ennemis du Seigneur, et des bienfaits pour ceux qui suivaient la droite voie.
12 So was Jesus the son of Josedec: who in their time builded the house, and set up an holy temple to the Lord, which was prepared for everlasting glory.	12 Que les ossements des douze prophètes refleurissent dans leurs tombeaux; car ils ont fortifié Jacob, et l'ont sauvé par une foi courageuse.
13 And among the elect was Neemias, whose renown is great, who raised up for us the walls that were fallen, and set up the gates and the bars, and raised up our ruins again.	13 Comment relèverons-nous Zorobabel? car il a été comme un anneau à la main droite.
14 But upon the earth was no man created like Enoch; for he was taken from the earth.	14 Et Jésus, fils de Josedec? De leur temps ils ont rebâti la maison du Seigneur, et élevé un saint temple, destiné à une gloire éternelle.
15 Neither was there a young man born like Joseph, a governor of his brethren, a stay of the people, whose bones were regarded of the Lord.	15 Néhémie aussi a laissé un souvenir durable, lui qui a relevé nos murs abattus, qui a rétabli nos portes et nos barres, et qui a rebâti nos maisons.
16 Sem and Seth were in great honour among men, and so was Adam above every living thing in creation.	16 Nul n'est né sur la terre tel qu'Hénoch, qui a été ensuite enlevé de la terre;
	17 ni comme Joseph, qui est né pour être le prince de ses frères et l'appui de sa famille, le guide de ses frères et le soutien de sa race.
	18 Ses os ont été conservés avec soin, et ont prophétisé après sa mort.
	19 Seth et Sem ont acquis de la gloire parmi les hommes, et Adam fut au-dessus de toute créature dès son origine.
