KING JAMES BIBLEJERUSALEM
The remembrance of Josias is like the composition of the perfume that is made by the art of the apothecary: it is sweet as honey in all mouths, and as musick at a banquet of wine.1 Le souvenir de Josias est une mixture d'encens préparée par les soins du parfumeur; il estcomme le miel doux à toutes les bouches, comme une musique au milieu d'un banquet.
He behaved himself uprightly in the conversion of the people, and took away the abominations of iniquity.2 Lui-même prit la bonne voie, celle de convertir le peuple, il extirpa l'impiété abominable;
He directed his heart unto the Lord, and in the time of the ungodly he established the worship of God.3 il dirigea son coeur vers le Seigneur, en des temps impies il fit prévaloir la piété.
All, except David and Ezekias and Josias, were defective: for they forsook the law of the most High, even the kings of Juda failed.4 Hormis David, Ezéchias et Josias, tous multiplièrent les transgressions, ils abandonnèrent laloi du Très-Haut: les rois de Juda disparurent.
Therefore he gave their power unto others, and their glory to a strange nation.5 Car ils livrèrent leur vigueur à d'autres, leur gloire à une nation étrangère.
They burnt the chosen city of the sanctuary, and made the streets desolate, according to the prophecy of Jeremias.6 Les ennemis brûlèrent la ville sainte élue, rendirent désertes ses rues,
For they entreated him evil, who nevertheless was a prophet, sanctified in his mother's womb, that he might root out, and afflict, and destroy; and that he might build up also, and plant.7 selon la parole de Jérémie. Car ils l'avaient maltraité, lui, consacré prophète dès le sein de samère pour déraciner, détruire et ruiner, mais aussi pour construire et pour planter.
It was Ezekiel who saw the glorious vision, which was shewed him upon the chariot of the cherubims.8 C'est Ezéchiel qui vit une vision de gloire que Dieu lui montra sur le char des chérubins,
For he made mention of the enemies under the figure of the rain, and directed them that went right.9 car il fit mention des ennemis dans l'averse pour favoriser ceux qui suivent la voie droite.
And of the twelve prophets let the memorial be blessed, and let their bones flourish again out of their place: for they comforted Jacob, and delivered them by assured hope.10 Quant aux douze prophètes, que leurs os refleurissent dans la tombe, car ils ont consoléJacob, ils l'ont racheté dans la foi et l'espérance.
How shall we magnify Zorobabel? even he was as a signet on the right hand:11 Comment faire l'éloge de Zorobabel? Il est comme un sceau dans la main droite;
So was Jesus the son of Josedec: who in their time builded the house, and set up an holy temple to the Lord, which was prepared for everlasting glory.12 et de même Josué fils de Iosédek, eux qui, de leur temps, construisirent le Temple et firentmonter vers le Seigneur un peuple saint, destiné à une gloire éternelle.
And among the elect was Neemias, whose renown is great, who raised up for us the walls that were fallen, and set up the gates and the bars, and raised up our ruins again.13 De Néhémie le souvenir est grand, lui qui releva pour nous les murs en ruine, établit porteset verrous et releva nos habitations.
But upon the earth was no man created like Enoch; for he was taken from the earth.14 Personne sur terre ne fut créé l'égal d'Hénok, c'est lui qui fut enlevé de terre.
Neither was there a young man born like Joseph, a governor of his brethren, a stay of the people, whose bones were regarded of the Lord.15 On ne vit jamais non plus naître un homme comme Joseph, chef de ses frères, soutien deson peuple; ses os furent visités.
Sem and Seth were in great honour among men, and so was Adam above every living thing in creation.16 Sem et Seth furent glorieux parmi les hommes, mais au-dessus de toute créature vivante estAdam.
