Sirach 13

1 He that toucheth pitch shall be defiled therewith; and he that hath fellowship with a proud man shall be like unto him.	1 Chi tocca la pece ne resterà imbrattato, e chi avrà relazioni col superbo ne prenderà la superbia.
2 Burden not thyself above thy power while thou livest; and have no fellowship with one that is mightier and richer than thyself: for how agree the kettle and the earthen pot together? for if the one be smitten against the other, it shall be broken.	2 Si mette un peso addosso chi fa in società con uno da più di lui. Non ti far socio di uno più ricco di te.
3 The rich man hath done wrong, and yet he threateneth withal: the poor is wronged, and he must intreat also.	3 Come potranno star insieme il paiolo e la pentola? Appena si urtano, questa andrà in bricioli.
4 If thou be for his profit, he will use thee: but if thou have nothing, he will forsake thee.	4 Il ricco, fatti dei torti, fremerà; il povero, maltrattato, dovrà stare zitto.
5 If thou have any thing, he will live with thee: yea, he will make thee bare, and will not be sorry for it.	5 Se gli dài, si servirà di te; se non hai da dare, ti abbandonerà.
6 If he have need of thee, he will deceive thee, and smile upon thee, and put thee in hope; he will speak thee fair, and say, What wantest thou?	6 Se hai, vivrà con te, e ti spoglierà, senza aver di te compassione alcuna.
7 And he will shame thee by his meats, until he have drawn thee dry twice or thrice, and at the last he will laugh thee to scorn afterward, when he seeth thee, he will forsake thee, and shake his head at thee.	7 Se tu gli sei necessario, t'ingannerà, con sorrisi ti darà delle speranze: ti racconterà belle cose, e ti dirà: « Di che hai bisogno? »
8 Beware that thou be not deceived and brought down in thy jollity.	8 e ti confonderà coi suoi desinari, fino a tanto che in due o tre volte, non ti abbia rifinito, e alla fine si burlerà di te, e poi, vedendoti, passerà oltre e scoterà la testa alle tue spalle.
9 If thou be invited of a mighty man, withdraw thyself, and so much the more will he invite thee.	9 Umiliati davanti a Dio e aspetta la sua mano.
10 Press thou not upon him, lest thou be put back; stand not far off, lest thou be forgotten.	10 Guarda che, sedotto, non ti umilii stoltamente.
11 Affect not to be made equal unto him in talk, and believe not his many words: for with much communication will he tempt thee, and smiling upon thee will get out thy secrets:	11 Guardati dall'essere umile nella tua sapienza, affinchè umiliato, tu non sia sedotto sino alla stoltezza.
12 But cruelly he will lay up thy words, and will not spare to do thee hurt, and to put thee in prison.	12 Chiamato da un potente, tirati indietro, per questo appunto egli ti chiamerà e richiamerà.
13 Observe, and take good heed, for thou walkest in peril of thy overthrowing: when thou hearest these things, awake in thy sleep.	13 Non essere importuno, per non essere cacciato via, e non andar tanto lontano, per non essere dimenticato.
14 Love the Lord all thy life, and call upon him for thy salvation.	14 Non ritenere di poter parlare da uguale con lui; non credere alle molte sue parole, perchè con molti discorsi ti metterà alla prova, e, sorridendo, t'interrogherà per sapere i tuoi segreti.
15 Every beast loveth his like, and every man loveth his neighbor.	15 Il suo animo crudele conserverà le tue parole, e non ti risparmierà i maltrattamenti e la prigione.
16 All flesh consorteth according to kind, and a man will cleave to his like.	16 Stai in guardia, e molto attento a ciò che ti senti dire, perchè cammini sulla tua rovina.
17 What fellowship hath the wolf with the lamb? so the sinner with the godly.	17 Sentendo queste cose, guardale come in sogno, e stai sveglio.
18 What agreement is there between the hyena and a dog? and what peace between the rich and the poor?	18 Per tutta la tua vita ama Dio, e invoca lo per la tua salvezza.
19 As the wild ass is the lion's prey in the wilderness: so the rich eat up the poor.	19 Ogni animale ama il suo simile, così ogni uomo il suo prossimo.
20 As the proud hate humility: so doth the rich abhor the poor.	20 Ogni vivente s'unirà coi suoi simili, così ogni uomo s'associerà col suo simile.
21 A rich man beginning to fall is held up of his friends: but a poor man being down is thrust away by his friends.	21 Se il lume potrà fare un giorno società coll'agnello, così il peccatore col giusto.
22 When a rich man is fallen, he hath many helpers: he speaketh things not to be spoken, and yet men justify him: the poor man slipped, and yet they rebuked him too; he spake wisely, and could have no place.	22 Qual relazione fra un uomo santo e un cane? Qual unione fra il ricco e il povero?
23 When a rich man speaketh, every man holdeth his tongue, and, look, what he saith, they extol it to the clouds: but if the poor man speak, they say, What fellow is this? and if he stumble, they will help to overthrow him.	23 Preda del leone è l'asino salvatico nel deserto, e pastura dei ricchi sono i poveri.
24 Riches are good unto him that hath no sin, and poverty is evil in the mouth of the ungodly.	24 E come il superbo ha in abominio l'umiltà, cosi il ricco ha in esecrazione il povero.
25 The heart of a man changeth his countenance, whether it be for good or evil: and a merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance.	25 Il ricco che vacilla è sostenuto dai suoi amici, ma il povero, caduto che sia, vien cacciato anche dai familiari.
26 A cheerful countenance is a token of a heart that is in prosperity; and the finding out of parables is a wearisome labour of the mind.	26 Ii ricco che ha sbagliato ha molti sostenitori, e, se parla con arroganza, lo giustificano.
	27 Ma il povero, se sbaglia, è ripreso acerbamente; se parla sensatamente, non se ne tien conto.
	28 Parla il ricco, e tutti stan cheti, e innalzano fino alle nuvole le sue parole;
	29 parla il povero, e dicono: « Chi è costui? » e se inciampa lo getteranno per terra.
	30 Buone son le ricchezze per chi non ha peccato sulla coscienza, e pessima è la povertà nella bocca dell'empio.
	31 Il cuore dell'uomo ne cangia la faccia, sia in bene, sia in male.
	32 Il buon viso, se gno di buon cuore, lo troverai difficilmente e con pena.
