KING JAMES BIBLEBIBLES DES PEUPLES
The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.1 Le malfaiteur fuit quand personne ne le poursuit, le juste par contre va comme un lion, plein d’assurance.
For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged.2 Les erreurs d’un violent mettent le monde en effervescence, avec un homme intelligent le calme revient.
A poor man that oppresseth the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.3 L’homme mauvais qui exploite les pauvres est comme la pluie dévastatrice: on reste sans pain.
They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.4 Après avoir abandonné la Loi on approuve le méchant, ceux qui observent la Loi s’indignent contre lui.
Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.5 Les mauvais n’entendent rien à la morale, ceux qui cherchent Yahvé comprennent tout.
Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.6 Mieux vaut un pauvre qui vit honnêtement, qu’un arriviste qui s’est fait riche.
Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.7 Un garçon intelligent observe la Loi, celui qui fréquente les débauchés est la honte de son père.
He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.8 Les intérêts et l’usure lui ont permis d’arrondir sa fortune: il a amassé pour celui qui a pitié des pauvres.
He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.9 Celui qui refuse d’écouter la Loi, même sa prière est abominable.
Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession.10 Si quelqu’un pousse les honnêtes gens hors du chemin, c’est lui qui tombera dans le fossé.
The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out.11 L’homme riche s’imagine être sage, mais le pauvre de bon sens ne s’y trompe pas.
When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden.12 Quand les justes triomphent, la joie est grande; quand les méchants l’emportent, chacun se cache.
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.13 Cacher ses fautes ne mène à rien, les reconnaître et y renoncer les fait pardonner.
Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.14 Heureux celui qui jamais ne perd la crainte: qui endurcit sa conscience tombera dans le malheur.
As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.15 Un lion rugissant, un ours affamé, tel est le méchant qui domine sur le pauvre peuple.
The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.16 Moins le chef est intelligent, plus il est oppresseur: qui déteste les abus restera longtemps.
A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.17 C’est un violent qui a versé le sang, ne l’arrêtez pas: jusqu’à sa mort il fuira!
Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.18 Qui marche sans reproche se sauvera, qui mène un double jeu s’y perdra.
He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.19 Cultive ton champ, tu auras ton content de pain; poursuis des illusions, tu auras ton compte de privations.
A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.20 Celui qui est consciencieux, les succès ne lui feront pas défaut, celui qui veut s’enrichir vite ne saurait être innocent.
To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.21 On devrait être impartial, mais certains se vendent pour une bouchée de pain.
He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.22 L’homme intéressé court après la richesse, et il ne sait pas que la misère l’attend.
He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.23 Celui qui remet en place sera un jour plus apprécié que celui qui veut plaire.
Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.24 Qui prend à son père en disant: “Ce n’est pas grave!” n’est qu’un brigand parmi d’autres.
He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.25 L’homme cupide ne gagne que des querelles, qui met sa confiance dans Yahvé réussira.
He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.26 Celui qui ne croit qu’à ses idées est un imbécile, qui agit avec sagesse s’en tirera.
He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.27 Qui donne au pauvre ne manquera de rien, qui préfère ne pas le voir aura toutes les malédictions.
When the wicked rise, men hide themselves: but when they perish, the righteous increase.28 Quand les méchants l’emportent, chacun se cache; quand ils sont éliminés, les justes se multiplient.
