At this also my heart trembleth, and is moved out of his place.1 At this, my heart became frightened, and it has been moved from its place.
Hear attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound that goeth out of his mouth.2 Pay close attention to the alarm of his voice and to the sound that proceeds from his mouth.
He directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.3 He beholds everything under the heavens, and his light reaches beyond the ends of the earth.
After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of his excellency; and he will not stay them when his voice is heard.4 After this, a noise will sound; he will thunder with the voice of his greatness, and it will not be tracked down, yet his voice will be obeyed.
God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend.5 God will thunder with his voice miraculously, for he performs great and unsearchable things.
For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.6 He commands the snow to descend on earth, and the winter rains, and the shower of his strength.
He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work.7 He signs the hand of all men, so that each one may know his works.
Then the beasts go into dens, and remain in their places.8 The beast will enter his hiding-place, and he will remain in his cave.
Out of the south cometh the whirlwind: and cold out of the north.9 From the interior, a storm will come forth, and a cold winter from the north.
By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened.10 As God breathes out, frost forms, and the waters are poured forth very widely again.
Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud:11 Crops desire clouds, and the clouds scatter their light.
And it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth.12 It shines all around, wherever the will of him that governs them will lead, to anywhere he will command, over the whole face of the earth,
He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.13 whether in one tribe, or in his own region, or in whatever place of his mercy that he will order them to be found.
Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.14 Listen to these things, Job. Stand up and consider the wonders of God.
Dost thou know when God disposed them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine?15 Do you know when God ordered the rains, so as to show the light of his clouds?
Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?16 Do you know the great paths of the clouds, and the perfect sciences?
How thy garments are warm, when he quieteth the earth by the south wind?17 Are not your garments hot, when the south wind blows across the land?
Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?18 Perhaps you have made the heavens with him, which are very solid, as if they had been cast from brass.
Teach us what we shall say unto him; for we cannot order our speech by reason of darkness.19 Reveal to us what we should say to him, for, of course, we are wrapped in darkness.
Shall it be told him that I speak? if a man speak, surely he shall be swallowed up.20 Who will explain to him the things that I am saying? Even while a man is still speaking, he will be devoured.
And now men see not the bright light which is in the clouds: but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them.21 Although they do not see the light, the air will be thickened suddenly into clouds, and the wind, passing by, will drive them away.
Fair weather cometh out of the north: with God is terrible majesty.22 Riches arrive from the north, and fearful praise reaches out to God.
Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.23 We are not worthy to be able to find him. Great in strength, great in judgment, great in justice: he is indescribable.
Men do therefore fear him: he respecteth not any that are wise of heart.24 Therefore, men will fear him, and all those who seem to themselves to be wise, will not dare to contemplate him.
