Exodus 4

1 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee.	1 Pero Moisés respondió: «Y si se niegan a creerme, y en lugar de hacerme caso, me dicen: «No es cierto que el Señor se te ha aparecido»?».
2 And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.	2 Entonces el Señor le preguntó: «¿Qué tienes en la mano?». «Un bastón», respondió Moisés.
3 And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.	3 «Arrójalo al suelo», le ordenó el Señor. Y cuando lo arrojó el suelo, el bastón se convirtió en una serpiente. Moisés retrocedió atemorizado,
4 And the LORD said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:	4 pero el Señor le volvió a decir: «Extiende tu mano y agárrala por la cola». Así lo hizo, y cuando la tuvo en su mano, se transformó nuevamente en un bastón.
5 That they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.	5 «Así deberás proceder, añadió el Señor, para que crean que el Señor, el Dios de tus padres, el Dios de Abraham, el Dios de Isaac y el Dios de Jacob, se te ha aparecido».
6 And the LORD said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous as snow.	6 Después el Señor siguió diciéndole: «Mete tu mano en el pecho». El puso su mano en el pecho; y al sacarla, estaba cubierta de lepra, blanca como la nieve.
7 And he said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.	7 En seguida el Señor le ordenó: «Vuelve a poner tu mano en el pecho». Así lo hizo Moisés; y cuando la retiró, ya había recuperado nuevamente su color natural.
8 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.	8 Entonces el Señor le dijo: «Si se niegan a creerte y no se convencen ante la evidencia del primer prodigio, el segundo los convencerá.
9 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.	9 Y si a pesar de estos dos prodigios permanecen incrédulos y no te escuchan, saca del Nilo un poco de agua y derrámala en la tierra; y al caer en la tierra, el agua que saques del Nilo se convertirá en sangre».
10 And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.	10 Moisés dijo al Señor: «Perdóname, Señor, pero yo nunca he sido una persona elocuente: ni antes, ni a partir del momento en que tú me hablaste. Yo soy torpe para hablar y me expreso con dificultad».
11 And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD?	11 El Señor le respondió: «¿Quién dio al hombre una boca? ¿Y
12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.	12 Ahora ve: yo te asistiré siempre que hables y te indicaré lo que debes decir».
13 And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.	13 Pero Moisés insistió: «Perdóname, Señor, encomienda a otro esta misión».
14 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.	14 El Señor se enojó con Moisés y exclamó: «¿Acaso no tienes a tu hermano Aarón, el levita? Yo sé que él tiene facilidad de palabra. Ahora justamente viene a tu encuentro, y al verte se llenará de alegría.
15 And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.	15 Tú le hablarás y harás que sea tu portavoz. Yo los asistiré siempre que ustedes hablen, y les indicaré lo que deben hacer.
16 And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.	16 El hablará al pueblo en tu nombre; será tu portavoz y tú serás un Dios para él.
17 And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.	17 Lleva también en tu mano este bastón, porque con él realizarás los prodigios».
18 And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.	18 Luego Moisés se alejó de allí y al regresar a la casa de Jetró, su suegro, le dijo: «Permíteme volver a Egipto, donde están mis hermanos. Quiero ver si viven todavía». Jetró le respondió: «Puedes ir en paz».
19 And the LORD said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for all the men are dead which sought thy life.	19 El Señor dijo a Moisés en Madián: «Regresa a Egipto, porque ya han muerto todos los que querían matarte».
20 And Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land of Egypt: and Moses took the rod of God in his hand.	20 Moisés tomó a su mujer y a sus hijos, los hizo montar en un asno, y emprendió el camino de regreso a Egipto. En su mano llevaba el bastón de Dios.
21 And the LORD said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.	21 El Señor le dijo: «Mientras regresas a Egipto, considera todos los prodigios que yo te di el poder de realizar: tú los harás delante del Faraón. Pero yo voy a endurecer el corazón del Faraón, y él no dejará salir al pueblo.
22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:	22 Entonces tú le dirás: Así habla el Señor: «Israel es mi hijo primogénito.
23 And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn.	23 Yo te he dicho que dejes partir a mi pueblo, para que me rinda culto. Pero ya que te niegas a hacerlo, castigaré con la muerte a tu hijo primogénito».
24 And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the LORD met him, and sought to kill him.	24 Cuando hizo un alto en el camino para pasar la noche, el Señor lo atacó e intentó matarlo.
25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.	25 Pero Sipora tomó un cuchillo de piedra, cortó el prepucio de su hijo, y con él tocó los pies de Moisés diciendo: «Tú eres para mí un esposo de sangre».
26 So he let him go: then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.	26 Y el Señor se apartó de él. Ella había dicho: «esposo de sangre», a causa de la circuncisión.
27 And the LORD said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him.	27 Mientras tanto, el Señor había dicho a Aarón: «Ve al desierto para encontrarte con Moisés». Aarón partió, y cuando lo encontró en la montaña de Dios, lo besó.
28 And Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD who had sent him, and all the signs which he had commanded him.	28 Moisés lo informó acerca de la misión que el Señor le había confiado, y de todos los prodigios que le había mandado realizar.
29 And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel:	29 Después fueron los dos juntos y reunieron a todos los ancianos de los israelitas.
30 And Aaron spake all the words which the LORD had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people.	30 Aarón les expuso las palabras que el Señor había dicho a Moisés, y este realizó los prodigios a la vista del pueblo.
31 And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.	31 El pueblo creyó; y cuando oyeron que el Señor había visitado a los israelitas y había visto su opresión, se postraron en señal de adoración.
