KING JAMES BIBLESacra Bibbia Garofalo
If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.1 «“Se il ladro, sorpreso mentre sfonda un muro, è percosso e muore, il suo sangue non sarà vendicato.
If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him.2 Ma se il sole si era già alzato, il suo sangue sarà vendicato.
If the sun be risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him; for he should make full restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.3 Se l’oggetto rubato — toro, asino o capo di bestiame minuto — si trova vivo in suo possesso, risarcirà il doppio.
If a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten, and shall put in his beast, and shall feed in another man's field; of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard, shall he make restitution.5 Quando un fuoco, propagandosi, si appiglia a cespugli spinosi e divora la messe in covoni o su stelo o il campo, chi ha appiccato il fuoco dovrà risarcire ciò che è stato bruciato.
If fire break out, and catch in thorns, so that the stacks of corn, or the standing corn, or the field, be consumed therewith; he that kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.6 Se un uomo dà denaro od oggetti da custodire all'altro e questi saranno rubati dalla casa quell uomo, se il ladro sarà trovato dovrà risarcire il doppio;
If a man shall deliver unto his neighbour money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man's house; if the thief be found, let him pay double.7 se il ladro non sarà trovato il padrone della casa si avvicinerà a Dio per attestare che non ha messo la mano sulla roba del suo prossimo.
If the thief be not found, then the master of the house shall be brought unto the judges, to see whether he have put his hand unto his neighbour's goods.8 Per ogni causa delittuosa relativa a un toro, a un asino, a un capo di bestiame minuto, a un vestiario e a qualsiasi oggetto perduti di cui uno dica: È proprio questo, — la causa di ambedue andrò fino a Dio.
For all manner of trespass, whether it be for ox, for ass, for sheep, for raiment, or for any manner of lost thing, which another challengeth to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the judges; and whom the judges shall condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbour.9 Se un uomo dà al suo prossimo un asino o un toro o un capo di bestiame minuto o qualsiasi altro animale da custodire, e questo muore, si frattura un membro o è rapito senza che alcuno veda:
If a man deliver unto his neighbour an ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to keep; and it die, or be hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it:10 tra i due avrà luogo un giuramento di Jahvè per attestare che il custode non ha messo la mano sulla roba del suo prossimo.
Then shall an oath of the LORD be between them both, that he hath not put his hand unto his neighbour's goods; and the owner of it shall accept thereof, and he shall not make it good.11 Ma se l’animale è stato rubato vicino a lui, egli risarcirà il padrone.
And if it be stolen from him, he shall make restitution unto the owner thereof.12 Se invece è stato sbranato, lo porterà in testimonianza: non risarcirà quanto è stato sbranato.
If it be torn in pieces, then let him bring it for witness, and he shall not make good that which was torn.13 Se un uomo domanda un animale al suo prossimo e l’animale si frattura un membro o muore in assenza del padrone, dovrà risarcire.
And if a man borrow ought of his neighbour, and it be hurt, or die, the owner thereof being not with it, he shall surely make it good.14 Ma non risarcirà se il suo padrone era presente.
But if the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good: if it be an hired thing, it came for his hire.15 Se un uomo seduce una vergine non fidanzata e giace con lei, dovrà pagare il prezzo nuziale e sposarla;
And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife.16 se il padre di lei si rifiuta di dargliela, peserà una somma in denaro pari al prezzo nuziale stabilito per le vergini.
If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.17 Non lascerai vivere colei che pratica la magia.
Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.18 Sarà messo a morte chiunque giaccia con una bestia.
Whosoever lieth with a beast shall surely be put to death.19 Colui che sacrifica ad altri dèi, fuorché al solo Jahvè, sarà votato all’anatema.
He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the LORD only, he shall be utterly destroyed.20 Non molesterai un forestiero né lo opprimerai, poiché voi foste forestieri nella terra di Egitto.
Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.21 Non affliggerete né una vedova né un orfano.
Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child.22 Se tu lo affliggi egli certo manderà a me grida d’aiuto: io ascolterò le sue grida,
If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry;23 si infiammerà la mia collera e ucciderò voi di spada; le vostre mogli saranno vedove e i vostri figli orfani.
And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.24 Se presti denaro ad alcuno del mio popolo, al povero che sta con te, non ti comporterai verso di lui come un creditore: non gli imporrai alcun interesse.
If thou lend money to any of my people that is poor by thee, thou shalt not be to him as an usurer, neither shalt thou lay upon him usury.25 Se prendi in pegno il mantello del tuo prossimo, glielo restituirai al tramonto del sole.
If thou at all take thy neighbour's raiment to pledge, thou shalt deliver it unto him by that the sun goeth down:26 Esso infatti è la sola sua coperta, è il mantello per la sua pelle; su che cosa giacerebbe? Se egli manda a me grida d’aiuto io lo ascolterò, poiché io ho compassione.
For that is his covering only, it is his raiment for his skin: wherein shall he sleep? and it shall come to pass, when he crieth unto me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.27 Non bestemmierai Dio né maledirai un capo del tuo popolo.
Thou shalt not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of thy people.28 Non indugerai nell’offrire dell’abbondanza della tua aia e del tuo frantoio. Darai a me il primogenito dei tuoi figli.
Thou shalt not delay to offer the first of thy ripe fruits, and of thy liquors: the firstborn of thy sons shalt thou give unto me.29 Così farai per il tuo bestiame grosso e per il tuo bestiame minuto: resterà sette giorni con sua madre, lo darai a me all’ottavo giorno.
Likewise shalt thou do with thine oxen, and with thy sheep: seven days it shall be with his dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it me.30 Sarete per me uomini santi.
And ye shall be holy men unto me: neither shall ye eat any flesh that is torn of beasts in the field; ye shall cast it to the dogs.
