1 The great king Artexerxes unto the princes and governors of an hundred and seven and twenty provinces from India unto Ethiopia, and unto all our faithful subjects, greeting.	1 Le roi vint donc, ainsi qu’Aman, au festin de la reine Esther.
2 Many, the more often they are honoured with the great bounty of their gracious princes, the more proud they are waxen,	2 Ce second jour, le roi dit encore à Esther au moment où l’on servait le vin: "Quelle est ta demande, reine Esther? Elle te sera accordée! Quel est ton désir? Quand ce serait la moitié de mon royaume, cela se fera.”
3 And endeavour to hurt not our subjects only, but not being able to bear abundance, do take in hand to practise also against those that do them good:	3 La reine Esther répondit au roi: "Si j’ai trouvé grâce aux yeux du roi, et si le roi le veut bien, je demande qu’on m’accorde la vie, je désire qu’on l’accorde à mon peuple.
4 And take not only thankfulness away from among men, but also lifted up with the glorious words of lewd persons, that were never good, they think to escape the justice of God, that seeth all things and hateth evil.	4 Car nous avons été vendus, moi et mon peuple, pour être massacrés, tués, exterminés. Si nous avions été seulement vendus en esclavage, je n’aurais rien dit; mais comment l’ennemi pourra-t-il compenser ce dommage fait au roi?”
5 Oftentimes also fair speech of those, that are put in trust to manage their friends' affairs, hath caused many that are in authority to be partakers of innocent blood, and hath enwrapped them in remediless calamities:	5 Le roi Assuérus prit la parole et dit à la reine Esther: "Mais, qui est-ce? Où est-il cet homme qui nourrit de tels projets?”
6 Beguiling with the falsehood and deceit of their lewd disposition the innocency and goodness of princes.	6 Esther répondit: "L’adversaire, l’ennemi, le voici! C’est Aman, ce méchant homme!” Aman resta glacé de terreur face au roi et à la reine.
7 Now ye may see this, as we have declared, not so much by ancient histories, as ye may, if ye search what hath been wickedly done of late through the pestilent behaviour of them that are unworthily placed in authority.	7 Le roi se leva de table très en colère et gagna le jardin du palais; Aman, lui, resta pour implorer son salut auprès de la reine Esther, car il voyait bien que le roi avait décidé sa perte.
8 And we must take care for the time to come, that our kingdom may be quiet and peaceable for all men,	8 Lorsque le roi revint du jardin du palais à la salle du festin, Aman s’était laissé tomber sur le divan où Esther était étendue. Le roi s’écria: "Va-t-il maintenant faire violence à la reine, chez moi, dans mon palais?” Aussitôt, le roi donna un ordre et l’on jeta un voile sur le visage d’Aman.
9 Both by changing our purposes, and always judging things that are evident with more equal proceeding.	9 Harbona, l’un des eunuques, dit au roi: "Il y a une potence qu’Aman a préparée pour Mardochée, celui qui a bien mérité du roi. Elle est dressée devant la maison d’Aman et elle est haute de 50 coudées.” Alors le roi dit: "Pendez-y Aman.”
10 For Aman, a Macedonian, the son of Amadatha, being indeed a stranger from the Persian blood, and far distant from our goodness, and as a stranger received of us,	10 On pendit Aman à la potence qu’il avait préparée pour Mardochée, et la colère du roi s’apaisa.
