1 And Joseph fell upon his father's face, and wept upon him, and kissed him.	1 Joseph, voyant son père mort, se jeta sur son visage, et le baisa en pleurant.
2 And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.	2 Il commanda aux médecins qu'il avait à son service d'embaumer le corps de son père.
3 And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed: and the Egyptians mourned for him threescore and ten days.	3 Et ils exécutèrent l'ordre qu'il leur avait donné ; ce qui dura quarante jours, parce que c'était la coutume d'employer ce temps pour embaumer les morts. Et l'Egypte pleura Jacob soixante-dix jours.
4 And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,	4 Le temps du deuil étant passé, Joseph dit aux officiers du Pharaon : Si j'ai trouvé grâce devant vous, je vous prie de représenter au roi
5 My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come again.	5 que mon père m'a dit : Tu vois que je me meurs ; promets-moi sous le serment que tu m'enseveliras dans mon sépulcre que je me suis préparé au pays de Chanaan. J'irai donc ensevelir mon père, et je reviendrai (aussitôt).
6 And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.	6 Le Pharaon lui dit : Va, et ensevelis ton père selon qu'il t'y a engagé par serment.
7 And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,	7 Et lorsque Joseph y alla, les premiers officiers (tous les anciens) de la maison du Pharaon, et les plus grands (tous les anciens) de l'Egypte l'y accompagnèrent tous
8 And all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father's house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen.	8 avec la maison de Joseph et tous ses frères qui le suivirent, laissant au pays de Gessen leurs petits enfants et tous leurs troupeaux.
9 And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company.	9 Il y eut aussi des chariots et des cavaliers (chars et des esclaves) qui le suivirent ; et il se trouva là une grande multitude de personnes.
10 And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days.	10 Lorsqu'ils furent venus à l'aire d'Atad, qui est située au-delà du Jourdain, ils y célébrèrent les funérailles pendant sept jours avec beaucoup de pleurs et de grands cris (un deuil grand et solennel).
11 And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called Abel-mizraim, which is beyond Jordan.	11 Ce que les habitants du pays de Chanaan ayant vu, ils dirent : Voilà un grand deuil parmi les Egyptiens. C'est pourquoi ils nommèrent ce lieu le Deuil d'Egypte.
12 And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them:	12 Les enfants (fils) de Jacob accomplirent donc ce qu'il leur avait commandé ;
13 For his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.	13 et l'ayant porté au pays de Chanaan, ils l'ensevelirent dans la caverne double qu'Abraham avait achetée d'Ephron l'Héthéen, avec le champ qui regarde Mambré, pour en faire le lieu de son sépulcre.
14 And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.	14 Aussitôt que Joseph eut enseveli son père, il retourna en Egypte avec ses frères et toute sa suite.
15 And when Joseph's brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.	15 Après la mort de Jacob, les frères de Joseph eurent peur, et ils s'entredirent : Joseph pourrait bien maintenant se souvenir de l'injure qu'il a soufferte, nous rendre tout le mal que nous lui avons fait.
16 And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,	16 Ils lui envoyèrent donc dire : Votre père, avant de mourir, nous a commandé
17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.	17 De vous dire de sa part : Je te conjure d'oublier le crime de tes frères, et cette (noire) malice dont ils ont usé contre toi. Nous vous conjurons aussi de pardonner cette iniquité aux serviteurs du Dieu de votre père. Joseph pleura en entendant ces paroles.
18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.	18 Et ses frères, étant venus le trouver, se prosternèrent devant lui, et lui dirent : Nous sommes vos serviteurs.
19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?	19 Il leur répondit : Ne craignez point ; pouvons-nous résister à la volonté de Dieu ?
20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.	20 Vous avez eu le dessein de me faire du mal ; mais Dieu a changé ce mal en bien, afin de m'élever comme vous voyez maintenant, et de sauver plusieurs (beaucoup de) peuples.
21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.	21 Ne craignez point ; je vous nourrirai, vous et vos (petits) enfants. Et il les consola en leur parlant avec beaucoup de douceur et de tendresse.
22 And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father's house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years.	22 Il demeura (donc) dans l'Egypte avec toute la maison de son père, et il vécut cent dix ans. Il vit les enfants d'Ephraïm jusqu'à la troisième génération. Machir, fils de Manassé, eut aussi des enfants, qui naquirent sur les genoux de Joseph.
23 And Joseph saw Ephraim's children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph's knees.	23 Joseph dit ensuite à ses frères : Dieu vous visitera après ma mort, et il vous fera passer de cette terre à celle qu'il avait juré de donner à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob.
24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.	24 Et il exigea d'eux une promesse sous le sceau du serment, et il leur dit : Dieu vous visitera ; transportez mes os avec vous hors de ce lieu.
25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.	25 Il mourut ensuite âgé de cent dix ans accomplis ; et son corps, ayant été embaumé, fut mis dans un cercueil en Egypte.
26 So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.
