1 As to the rest, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not wearisome, but to you it is necessary.1 Im übrigen, meine Brüder, freut euch im Herrn! Das gleiche euch immer wieder zu schreiben, zögere ich nicht, es dient zu eurem Schutz:
2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.2 Hütet euch vor den Hunden, hütet euch vor den schlechten Arbeitern, hütet euch vor der Zerschneidung!
3 For we are the circumcision, who in spirit serve God; and glory in Christ Jesus, not having confidence in the flesh.3 Denn wir sind die Beschneidung, wir, die wir im Geiste Gottes den Dienst verrichten und uns in Christus Jesus rühmen und nicht auf das Fleisch unser Vertrauen setzen.
4 Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other thinketh he may have confidence in the flesh, I more,4 Gleichwohl könnte auch ich auf das Fleisch Vertrauen setzen. Wenn da ein anderer meint, auf Fleisch vertrauen zu können, ich könnte es noch mehr:
5 Being circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; according to the law, a Pharisee:5 Beschnitten wurde ich am achten Tag, bin aus dem Volk Israel, aus dem Stamme Benjamin, ein Hebräer von Hebräern, im Hinblick auf das Gesetz ein Pharisäer,
6 According to zeal, persecuting the church of God; according to the justice that is in the law, conversing without blame.6 dem Eifer entsprechend ein Verfolger der Kirche [Gottes], und der Gesetzesgerechtigkeit nach war ich ohne Tadel.
7 But the things that were gain to me, the same I have counted loss for Christ.7 Doch was mir als Vorteil galt, das habe ich um Christi willen für Unwert erachtet.
8 Furthermore I count all things to be but loss for the excellent knowledge of Jesus Christ my Lord; for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but as dung, that I may gain Christ:8 Ja, ich erachtete auch wirklich alles für Unwert angesichts der alles übertreffenden Erkenntnis Christi Jesu, meines Herrn; um seinetwillen gab ich alles auf und betrachtete es als Unrat, um Christus zu gewinnen
9 And may be found in him, not having my justice, which is of the law, but that which is of the faith of Christ Jesus, which is of God, justice in faith:9 und in ihm mich zu finden, nicht mit meiner eigenen Gerechtigkeit, die aus dem Gesetze, sondern mit jener, die aus dem Glauben an Christus kommt, mit der Gerechtigkeit aus Gott, auf Grund des Glaubens.
10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable to his death,10 Ihn möchte ich gewahr werden, in der Kraft seiner Auferstehung wie in der Gemeinschaft mit seinen Leiden, indem ich die Gestalt seines Todes miterleide,
11 If by any means I may attain to the resurrection which is from the dead.11 um so hingelangen zu dürfen zur Auferstehung von den Toten.
12 Not as though I has already attained, or were already perfect; but I follow after, if I may by any means apprehend, wherein I am also apprehended by Christ Jesus.12 Nichts als hätte ich es schon erlangt oder als wäre ich schon am Ziele; doch ich jage ihm nach, um es zu ergreifen, da ja auch ich ergriffen wurde von Christus Jesus.
13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended. But one thing I do: forgetting the things that are behind, and stretching forth myself to those that are before,13 Brüder, noch halte ich mich nicht dafür, als hätte ich es schon ergriffen; doch eines tue ich: Ich vergesse, was hinter mir liegt, und strecke mich aus nach dem, was vor mir liegt.
14 I press towards the mark, to the prize of the supernal vocation of God in Christ Jesus.14 Das Ziel vor mir, jage ich nach dem Siegespreis der himmlischen Berufung Gottes in Christus Jesus.
15 Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, be thus minded; and if in any thing you be otherwise minded, this also God will reveal to you.15 Die wir also vollkommen sind, laßt uns darauf sinnen; und solltet ihr irgendwie anders gesonnen sein, wird auch dies Gott euch offenbaren.
16 Nevertheless whereunto we are come, that we be of the same mind, let us also continue in the same rule.16 Doch was wir erreichten, in dem laßt uns weitergehen [und die gleiche Richtung halten]!
17 Be ye followers of me, brethren, and observe them who walk so as you have our model.17 Seid meine Nachahmer, Brüder, und schaut auf jene, die so wandeln, wie ihr ein Vorbild habt an uns.
18 For many walk, of whom I have told you often (and now tell you weeping), that they are enemies of the cross of Christ;18 Denn viele wandeln, wie ich von ihnen oft zu euch sprach, von denen ich aber jetzt unter Tränen spreche als von den Feinden des Kreuzes Christi.
19 Whose end is destruction; whose God is their belly; and whose glory is in their shame; who mind earthly things.19 Ihr Ende ist Verderben, ihr Gott ist der Bauch; ihr Ruhm liegt in ihrer Schande, auf Irdisches richtet sich ihr Sinnen und Trachten.
20 But our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, our Lord Jesus Christ,20 Unser Heimatrecht aber ist im Himmel, von wo wir auch den Heiland erwarten, den Herrn Jesus Christus.
21 Who will reform the body of our lowness, made like to the body of his glory, according to the operation whereby also he is able to subdue all things unto himself.21 Er wird unseren armseligen Leib umgestalten, daß er teilhabe an der Gestalt seines verherrlichten Leibes vermöge der Kraft, mit der er sich auch zu unterwerfen vermag das All.
