DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
And we helping do exhort you, that you receive not the grace of God in vain.1 Working together, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain.
For he saith: In an accepted time have I heard thee; and in the day of salvation have I helped thee. Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.2 For he says: "In an acceptable time I heard you, and on the day of salvation I helped you." Behold, now is a very acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
Giving no offence to any man, that our ministry be not blamed:3 We cause no one to stumble in anything, in order that no fault may be found with our ministry;
But in all things let us exhibit ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in tribulation, in necessities, in distresses,4 on the contrary, in everything we commend ourselves as ministers of God, through much endurance, in afflictions, hardships, constraints,
In stripes, in prisons, in seditions, in labours, in watchings, in fastings,5 beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, vigils, fasts;
In chastity, in knowledge, in longsuffering, in sweetness, in the Holy Ghost, in charity unfeigned,6 by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, in a holy spirit, in unfeigned love,
In the word of truth, in the power of God; by the armour of justice on the right hand and on the left;7 in truthful speech, in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness at the right and at the left;
By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yet true; as unknown, and yet known;8 through glory and dishonor, insult and praise. We are treated as deceivers and yet are truthful;
As dying, and behold we live; as chastised, and not killed;9 as unrecognized and yet acknowledged; as dying and behold we live; as chastised and yet not put to death;
As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as needy, yet enriching many; as having nothing, and possessing all things.10 as sorrowful yet always rejoicing; as poor yet enriching many; as having nothing and yet possessing all things.
Our mouth is open to you, O ye Corinthians, our heart is enlarged.11 We have spoken frankly to you, Corinthians; our heart is open wide.
You are not straitened in us, but in your own bowels you are straitened.12 You are not constrained by us; you are constrained by your own affections.
But having the same recompense, (I speak as to my children,) be you also enlarged.13 As recompense in kind (I speak as to my children), be open yourselves.
Bear not the yoke with unbelievers. For what participation hath justice with injustice? Or what fellowship hath light with darkness?14 Do not be yoked with those who are different, with unbelievers. For what partnership do righteousness and lawlessness have? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness?
And what concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part hath the faithful with the unbeliever?15 What accord has Christ with Beliar? Or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?
And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God; as God saith: I will dwell in them, and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said: "I will live with them and move among them, and I will be their God and they shall be my people.
Wherefore, Go out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing:17 Therefore, come forth from them and be separate," says the Lord, "and touch nothing unclean; then I will receive you
And I will receive you; and I will be a Father to you; and you shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.18 and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty."
