1 And not only she. But when Rebecca also had conceived at once, of Isaac our father.	1 Eu digo a verdade em Cristo, não minto, dando-me testemunho disso a minha consciência (esclarecida) no Espírito Santo:

3 dummy verses inserted by amos	3 Em verdade, eu mesmo desejava ser anátema separado de Cristo, por amor de meus irmãos, que são do mesmo sangue que eu, segundo a carne,
4 dummy verses inserted by amos	4 que são israelitas, os quais possuem a adopção de filhos (de Deus), a glória, as alianças, a lei, o culto e as promessas;
5 dummy verses inserted by amos	5 dos quais (são) os patriarcas, e dos quais é (descendente) o Cristo, segundo a carne, que está sobre todas as coisas. Deus bendito por todos os séculos. Amen.
6 dummy verses inserted by amos	6 Não é que tenha faltado a palavra de Deus. Porque nem todos os que descendem de Israel, são verdadeiros israelitas (herdeiros das promessas);
7 dummy verses inserted by amos	7 nem os que são da linhagem de Abraão (são) todos (seus) filhos; mas é em Isaac que terás uma posteridade com o teu nome. (Gn. 21, 12).
8 dummy verses inserted by amos	8 Isto é, não são os filhos da carne que são filhos de Deus, mas os filhos da promessa é que são considerados como descendentes (de Abraão).
9 dummy verses inserted by amos	9 Com efeito os termos da promessa são os seguintes: Por este tempo virei, e Sara terá um filho (Gn. 18, 10).
10 dummy verses inserted by amos	10 E não sòmente ela, mas também (recebeu a promessa) Rebeca, a qual, de um só homem, Isaac, nosso pai, concebeu (dois filhos).
11 For when the children were not yet born, nor had done any good or evil (that the purpose of God, according to election, might stand,)	11 Não tendo eles ainda nascido, nem tendo ainda feito bem ou mal (para que permanecesse firme o decreto de Deus (decreto que é) segundo a (sua) escolha),
12 Not of works, but of him that calleth, it was said to her: The elder shall serve the younger.	12 não em vista das obras, mas por causa daquele que chama, foi-lhe dito a ela: O mais velho servirá ao mais novo (Gn. 25, 23),
13 As it is written: Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.	13 segundo o que está escrito: Amei Jacob, e aborreci Esaú (Ml. 1, 13).
14 What shall we say then? Is there injustice with God? God forbid.	14 Que diremos pois? Há porventura em Deus injustiça? Longe disso.
15 For he saith to Moses: I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy; and I will shew mercy to whom I will shew mercy.	15 Porque ele disse a Moisés: Eu terei misericórdia com quem me aprouver ter misericórdia e terei piedade de quem me aprouver ter piedade (Ex. 33, 19).
16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.	16 Logo (isto) não depende do que quer, nem do que corre, mas de Deus, que usa de misericórdia.
17 For the scripture saith to Pharao: To this purpose have I raised thee, that I may shew my power in thee, and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.	17 De facto, a Escritura diz a Faraó : Para isto te suscitei: para mostrar em ti o meu poder, e a fim de que seja anunciado o meu nome por toda a terra (Ex. 9, 16).
18 Therefore he hath mercy on whom he will; and whom he will, he hardeneth.	18 Logo, ele tem misericórdia de quem quer e endurece a quem quer.
19 Thou wilt say therefore to me: Why doth he then find fault? for who resisteth his will?	19 Dir-me-ás, porém : "De que se queixa, pois. Deus? Quem pode resistirá sua vontade?"
20 O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it: Why hast thou made me thus?	20 O homem, quem és tu, para replicares a Deus? Porventura o vaso, de barro, diz a quem o fez : "Por que me fizeste assim ?"
21 Or hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump, to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?	21 Porventura não é o oleiro senhor do barro para poder fazer da mesma massa um vaso para uso honroso, e outro para uso vil ?
22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath, fitted for destruction,	22 E se Deus, querendo mostrar a sua ira e tornar manifesto o seu poder, suportou com muita paciência os vasos de ira, preparados (por sua culpa) para a perdição,
23 That he might shew the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he hath prepared unto glory?	23 a fim de mostrar as riquezas da sua glória sobre os vasos de misericórdia, que preparou para a glória (onde está a injustiça ?).
24 Even us, whom also he hath called, nor only of the Jews, but also of the Gentiles.	24 (Esses vasos de misericórdia somos) nós, a quem ele também chamou, não só dos Judeus, mas ainda dos gentios.
25 As in Osee he saith: I will call that which was not my people, my people; and her that was not beloved, beloved; and her that had not obtained mercy, one that hath obtained mercy.	25 Como diz em Oseias( Os. 2, 23 ; Os. 1, 10 ): Chamarei meu povo o povo não meu, e amado o não amado, e objecto de misericórdia o que não tinha alcançado misericórdia,
26 And it shall be, in the place where it was said unto them, You are not my people; there they shall be called the sons of the living God.	26 E acontecerá que, no lugar em que lhes foi dito : Vós não sois meu povo, a i serão chamados filhos de Deus vivo.
27 And Isaias crieth out concerning Israel: If the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved.	27 Acerca de Israel, Isaías exclama: Se for o número dos filhos de Israel como a areia do mar, sòmente as relíquias serão salvas.
28 For he shall finish his word, and cut it short in justice; because a short word shall the Lord make upon the earth.	28 Porque Deus cumprirá a sua palavra com justiça plena e prontamente sobre a terra (10,22-23).
29 And as Isaias foretold: Unless the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been made as Sodom, and we had been like unto Gomorrha.	29 E, ainda como predisse Isaías (Is. 1, 9): Se o Senhor dos Exércitos não tivesse deixado de nós semente, ter-nos-íamos tornado como Sodoma, semelhantes a Gomorra.
30 What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who followed not after justice, have attained to justice, even the justice that is of faith.	30 Que diremos, pois? Que os gentios, que não seguiam a justiça, obtiveram a justiça, aquela justiça que vem da fé.
31 But Israel, by following after the law of justice, is not come unto the law of justice.	31 Mas Israel, que se esforçava por praticar uma lei feita para a justiça, não chegou à lei da justiça,
32 Why so? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were of works. For they stumbled at the stumblingstone.	32 Por que causa? Porque (procurou atingi-la ) não pela fé, mas (como se fosse possível) pelas obras. Tropeçou na pedra de tropeço,
33 As it is written: Behold I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and a rock of scandal; and whosoever believeth in him shall not be confounded.	33 conforme está escrito: Eis que ponho em Sião uma pedra de tropeço, uma pedra de escândalo; mas todo aquele que crê nele, não será confundido ( Is. 8, 14 ; Is. 28, 16 ).
