And Moses with the ancients of Israel commanded the people, saying: Keep every commandment that I command you this day.1 Moses aber und die Ältesten Israels gaben dem Volke folgenden Befehl: "Befolgt alle Gebote, die ich euch heute gebe!
And when you are passed over the Jordan into the land which the Lord thy God will give thee, thou shalt set up great stones, and shalt plaster them over with plaster,2 Wenn ihr über den Jordan in das Land hinübergekommen seid, das dir der Herr, dein Gott, geben wird, dann richte dir große Steine auf und bestreiche sie mit Kalk!
That thou mayst write on them all the words of this law, when thou art passed over the Jordan: that thou mayst enter into the land which the Lord thy God will give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, as he swore to thy fathers.3 Schreibe auf sie anläßlich deines Einzuges alle Worte dieses Gesetzes, damit du hineinkommst in das Land, das der Herr, dein Gott, dir verleiht, ein Land, das von Milch und Honig überfließt, wie der Herr, der Gott deiner Väter, dir verheißen.
Therefore when you are passed over the Jordan, set up the stones which I command you this day, in mount Hebal, and thou shalt plaster them with plaster:4 Habt ihr den Jordan überschritten, so errichtet diese Steine, um derentwillen ich euch heute Befehl erteile, auf dem Berge Garizim, und du sollst sie mit Kalk übertünchen!
And thou shalt build there an altar to the Lord thy God, of stones which iron hath not touched,5 Ferner sollst du dort dem Herrn, deinem Gott, einen Altar bauen, einen Altar aus Steinen, die du mit keinem Eisenwerkzeug bearbeitet hast.
And of stones not fashioned nor polished: and thou shalt offer upon it holocausts to the Lord thy God:6 Aus unbehauenen Steinen sollst du den Altar des Herrn, deines Gottes, errichten und darauf dem Herrn, deinem Gott, Brandopfer darbringen.
And shalt immolate peace victims, and eat there, and feast before the Lord thy God.7 Ebenso sollst du dort Friedopfer schlachten und ein fröhliches Opfermahl vor dem Herrn, deinem Gott, halten.
And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law plainly and clearly,8 Schreibe auf die Steine alle Worte dieses Gesetzes deutlich und genau!"
And Moses and the priests of the race of Levi said to all Israel: Attend, and hear, O Israel: This day thou art made the people of the Lord thy God.9 Moses und die levitischen Priester sprachen zu ganz Israel: "Schweige und höre, Israel! Heute bist du das Volk des Herrn, deines Gottes, geworden.
Thou shalt hear his voice, and do the commandments and justices which I command thee.10 Höre denn auf die Stimme des Herrn, deines Gottes; halte seine Gebote und Satzungen, die ich dir heute gebiete!"
And Moses commanded the people in that day, saying:11 An jenem Tag gab Moses dem Volk folgende Anweisung:

And over against them shall stand on mount Hebal to curse: Ruben, Gad, and Aser, and Zabulon, Dan, and Nephtali.13 die andern aber sollen sich zum Aussprechen des Fluches auf dem Berg Ebal aufstellen: Ruben, Gad, Aser, Sebulun, Dan und Naphtali.
