1 And entering in, he walked through Jericho.	1 Jésus, étant entré dans Jéricho, traversait la ville.
2 And behold, there was a man named Zacheus, who was the chief of the publicans, and he was rich.	2 Et voici qu'un homme, nommé Zachée, chef des publicains, et fort riche,
3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was, and he could not for the crowd, because he was low of stature.	3 cherchait à voir qui était Jésus ; et il ne le pouvait, à cause de la foule, parce qu'il était petit de taille.
4 And running before, he climbed up into a sycamore tree, that he might see him; for he was to pass that way.	4 Courant donc en avant, il monta sur un sycomore pour le voir, parce qu'il devait passer par là.
5 And when Jesus was come to the place, looking up, he saw him, and said to him: Zacheus, make haste and come down; for this day I must abide in thy house.	5 Arrivé en cet endroit, Jésus leva les yeux ; et l'ayant vu, il lui dit : Zachée, hâte-toi de descendre ; car, aujourd'hui, il faut que je demeure dans ta maison.
6 And he made haste and came down; and received him with joy.	6 Zachée se hâta de descendre, et le reçut avec joie.
7 And when all saw it, they murmured, saying, that he was gone to be a guest with a man that was a sinner.	7 Voyant cela, tous murmuraient, disant qu'il était allé loger chez un homme pécheur.
8 But Zacheus standing, said to the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have wronged any man of any thing, I restore him fourfold.	8 Cependant Zachée, se tenant devant le Seigneur, lui dit : Seigneur, voici que je donne la moitié de mes biens aux pauvres ; et si j'ai fait tort de quelque chose à quelqu'un, je lui rends le quadruple.
9 Jesus said to him: This day is salvation come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham.	9 Jésus lui dit : Aujourd'hui le salut a été accordé à cette maison, parce que celui-ci est aussi un fils d'Abraham.
10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.	10 Car le Fils de l'homme est venu chercher et sauver ce qui était perdu.
11 As they were hearing these things, he added and spoke a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately be manifested.	11 Comme ils écoutaient ces choses, il ajouta une parabole, parce qu'il était près de Jérusalem, et qu'ils pensaient que le royaume de Dieu allait être manifesté à l'instant (bientôt paraître).
12 He said therefore: A certain nobleman went into a far country, to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.	12 Il dit donc : Un homme de haute naissance s'en alla dans un pays lointain, pour prendre possession d'un royaume, et revenir ensuite.
13 And calling his ten servants, he gave them ten pounds, and said to them: Trade till I come.	13 Ayant appelé dix de ses serviteurs, il leur donna dix mines, et leur dit : Faites-les valoir jusqu'à ce que je revienne.
14 But his citizens hated him: and they sent an embassage after him, saying: We will not have this man to reign over us.	14 Mais ses concitoyens le haïssaient, et ils envoyèrent après lui une ambassade, pour dire : Nous ne voulons pas que cet homme règne sur nous.
15 And it came to pass, that he returned, having received the kingdom: and he commanded his servants to be called, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.	15 Et il arriva qu'à son retour, après avoir pris possession du royaume, il ordonna qu'on appelât les serviteurs auxquels il avait donné de l'argent, pour savoir comment chacun l'avait fait valoir.
16 And the first came, saying: Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.	16 Le premier vint, et dit : Seigneur, ta mine a produit dix mines.
17 And he said to him: Well done, thou good servant, because thou hast been faithful in a little, thou shalt have power over ten cities.	17 Et il lui dit : C'est bien, bon serviteur ; parce que tu as été fidèle en peu de choses, tu auras puissance sur dix villes.
18 And the second came, saying: Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.	18 Le second vint, et dit : Seigneur, ta mine a produit cinq mines.
19 And he said to him: Be thou also over five cities.	19 Et il lui dit : Et toi, sois établi sur cinq villes.
20 And another came, saying: Lord, behold here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin;	20 Un autre vint, et dit : Seigneur, voici ta mine, que j'ai tenue enveloppée dans un mouchoir ;
21 For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up what thou didst not lay down, and thou reapest that which thou didst not sow.	21 car je t'ai craint, parce que tu es un homme sévère : tu enlèves ce que tu n'as pas déposé, et tu moissonnes ce que tu n'as pas semé.
22 He saith to him: Out of thy own mouth I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up what I laid not down, and reaping that which I did not sow:	22 Il lui dit : Je te juge par ta propre bouche, méchant serviteur. Tu savais que je suis un homme sévère, enlevant ce que je n'ai pas déposé, et moissonnant ce que je n'ai pas semé ;
23 And why then didst thou not give my money into the bank, that at my coming, I might have exacted it with usury?	23 pourquoi donc n'as-tu pas mis mon argent à la banque, afin qu'à mon retour je le retirasse avec les intérêts ?
24 And he said to them that stood by: Take the pound away from him, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.	24 Puis il dit à ceux que étaient présents : Otez-lui la mine, et donnez-la à celui qui en a dix.
25 And they said to him: Lord, he hath ten pounds.	25 Et ils lui dirent : Seigneur, il a (déjà) dix mines.
26 But I say to you, that to every one that hath shall be given, and he shall abound: and from him that hath not, even that which he hath, shall be taken from him.	26 Je vous le dis, on donnera à celui qui a déjà, et il sera dans l'abondance ; mais à celui qui n'a pas, on ôtera même ce qu'il a.
27 But as for those my enemies, who would not have me reign over them, bring them hither, and kill them before me.	27 Quant à mes ennemis, qui n'ont pas voulu que je règne sur eux, amenez-les ici, et tuez-les devant moi.
28 And having said these things, he went before, going up to Jerusalem.	28 Et après avoir ainsi parlé, il marchait devant eux, montant à Jérusalem.
29 And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethania, unto the mount called Olivet, he sent two of his disciples,	29 Et il arriva, lorsqu'il approchait de Bethphagé et de Béthanie, près de la montagne appelée des Oliviers, qu'il envoya deux de ses disciples,
30 Saying: Go into the town which is over against you, at your entering into which you shall find the colt of an ass tied, on which no man ever hath sitten: loose him, and bring him hither.	30 en disant : Allez au village qui est en face ; en y entrant, vous trouverez un ânon attaché, sur lequel aucun homme ne s'est jamais assis ; déliez-le, et amenez-le.
31 And if any man shall ask you: Why do you loose him? you shall say thus unto him: Because the Lord hath need of his service.	31 Et si quelqu'un vous demande : Pourquoi le déliez-vous ? vous lui répondrez : Parce que le Seigneur désire s'en servir.
32 And they that were sent, went their way, and found the colt standing, as he had said unto them.	32 Ceux qui étaient envoyés partirent donc et trouvèrent l'ânon, comme il le leur avait dit.
33 And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said to them: Why loose you the colt?	33 Et comme ils déliaient l'ânon, ses maîtres leur dirent : Pourquoi déliez-vous cet ânon ?
34 But they said: Because the Lord hath need of him.	34 Ils répondirent : Parce que le Seigneur en a besoin.
35 And they brought him to Jesus. And casting their garments on the colt, they set Jesus thereon.	35 Et ils l'amenèrent à Jésus. Et jetant leurs vêtements sur l'ânon, ils y placèrent Jésus.
36 And as he went, they spread their clothes underneath in the way.	36 Et tandis qu'il avançait, le peuple étendit ses vêtements sur le chemin.
37 And when he was now coming near the descent of mount Olivet, the whole multitude of his disciples began with joy to praise God with a loud voice, for all the mighty works they had seen,	37 Et lorsqu'il approchait déjà de la descente de la montagne des Oliviers, toutes les foules des disciples, transportées de joie, se mirent à louer Dieu à haute voix pour toutes les merveilles qu'ils avaient vues,
38 Saying: Blessed be the king who cometh in the name of the Lord, peace in heaven, and glory on high!	38 en disant : Béni soit le roi qui vient au nom du Seigneur ! Paix dans le ciel, et gloire au plus haut des cieux !
39 And some of the Pharisees, from amongst the multitude, said to him: Master, rebuke thy disciples.	39 Alors quelques-uns des pharisiens, du milieu de la foule, lui dirent : Maître, reprenez vos disciples.
40 To whom he said: I say to you, that if these shall hold their peace, the stones will cry out.	40 Il leur répondit : Je vous dis, s'ils se taisent, les pierres crieront.
41 And when he drew near, seeing the city, he wept over it, saying:	41 Et comme il approchait, voyant la ville, il pleura sur elle, en disant :
42 If thou also hadst known, and that in this thy day, the things that are to thy peace; but now they are hidden from thy eyes.	42 Si tu connaissais, toi aussi, au moins en ce jour qui t'est donné, ce qui te procurerait la paix ! Mais maintenant cela est caché à tes yeux.
43 For the days shall come upon thee, and thy enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and straiten thee on every side,	43 Il viendra sur toi des jours où tes ennemis t'environneront de tranchées, ou ils t'enfermeront et te serreront de toutes parts ;
44 And beat thee flat to the ground, and thy children who are in thee: and they shall not leave in thee a stone upon a stone: because thou hast not known the time of thy visitation.	44 et ils te renverseront à terre, toi et tes enfants qui sont au milieu de toi, et ils ne laisseront pas en toi pierre sur pierre, parce que tu n'as pas connu le temps où tu as été visitée.
45 And entering into the temple, he began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought.	45 Et étant entré dans le temple, il se mit à chasser ceux qui y vendaient et ceux qui y achetaient,
46 Saying to them: It is written: My house is the house of prayer. But you have made it a den of thieves.	46 leur disant : Il est écrit : Ma maison est une maison de prière ; mais vous, vous en avez fait une caverne de voleurs.
47 And he was teaching daily in the temple. And the chief priests and the scribes and the rulers of the people sought to destroy him:	47 Et il enseignait tous les jours dans le temple. Et les princes des prêtres, les scribes et les principaux du peuple cherchaient à le perdre ;
48 And they found not what to do to him: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.	48 mais ils ne trouvaient pas ce qu'ils pourraient lui faire, car tout le peuple était suspendu d'admiration en l'écoutant.
