Proverbs 13

DOUAI-RHEIMSBIBLES DES PEUPLES
A wise son heareth the doctrine of his father: but he that is a scorner, beareth not when he is reproved.1 Un fils sage écoute les avis de son père, le railleur ne tient pas compte des reproches.
Of the fruit of his own mouth shall a man be filled with good things: but the soul of transgressors is wicked.2 Chacun récolte le fruit de ses décisions: tu goûteras au bonheur, pendant que l’impie sera rassasié de violence.
He that keepeth his mouth, keepeth his soul: but he that hath no guard on his speech shall meet with evils.3 Qui surveille ses paroles aura longue vie, qui parle sans arrêt, ce sera sa ruine.
The sluggard willeth and willeth not: but the soul of them that work, shall be made fat.4 Si l’on en reste à désirer, rien ne vient: ce sont les actifs qui s’engraissent.
The just shall hate a lying word: but the wicked confoundeth, and shall be confounded.5 L’homme droit a horreur du mensonge, c’est le méchant qui salit et calomnie.
Justice keepeth the way of the innocent: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.6 La droiture se charge de protéger l’homme droit; la méchanceté mène le méchant à sa perte.
One is as it were rich, when he hath nothing: and another is as it were poor, when he hath great riches.7 Tel fait le riche mais il n’a rien, tel fait le pauvre et il a de grands biens.
The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but he that is poor beareth not reprehension.8 Le riche paie la rançon qui le sauve, mais le pauvre ne se sent pas menacé.
The light of the just giveth joy: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.9 La lumière des justes brille, tandis que s’éteint la lampe des méchants.
Among the proud there are always contentions: but they that do all things with counsel, are ruled by wisdom.10 L’arrogance ne rapporte que des disputes, il est plus sage de se laisser conseiller.
Substance got in haste shall be diminished: but that which by little and little is gathered with the hand shall increase.11 Fortune vite acquise ne tient pas, qui la gère à son rythme l’augmente.
Hope that is deferred afflicteth the soul: desire when it cometh is a tree of life.12 L’espoir différé décourage, le désir comblé est un arbre de vie.
Whosoever speaketh ill of any thing, bindeth himself for the time to come: but he that feareth the commandment, shall dwell in peace. Deceitful souls go astray in sins: the just are merciful, and shew mercy.13 Qui méprise les avertissements se perdra, qui observe le commandement sera récompensé.
The law of the wise is a fountain of life, that he may decline from the ruin of death.14 L’enseignement du sage est source de vie, il fait échapper aux pièges de la mort.
Good instruction shall give grace: in the way of scorners is a deep pit.15 Qui agit avec bon sens sera apprécié, le chemin des traîtres ne mène nulle part.
The prudent mall doth all things with counsel: but he that is a fool, layeth open his folly.16 L’homme avisé agit à bon escient, l’insensé étale sa folie.
The messenger of the wicked shall fall into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.17 Un messager trompeur prépare un échec, un messager fidèle donne le réconfort.
Poverty and shame to him that refuseth instruction: but he that yieldeth to reproof, shall be glorified.18 Misère et honte pour celui qui rejette les avis; qui observe la remontrance se fera estimer.
The desire that is accomplished, delighteth the soul: fools hate them that flee from evil things.19 C’est toujours agréable d’avoir ce qu’on désire; les sots ne veulent pas renoncer au mal.
He that walketh with the wise, shall be wise: a friend of fools shall become like to them.20 Qui va avec les sages devient sage, qui fréquente les insensés se pervertit.
,21Evil pursueth sinners: and to the just good shall be repaid.21 Le malheur poursuit les pécheurs, le bonheur viendra récompenser les justes.
The good man leaveth heirs, sons, and grandsons: and the substance of the sinner is kept for the just.22 Les bons laissent à leurs enfants et petits-enfants leur héritage; la fortune des pécheurs est réservée au juste.
Much food is in the tillage of fathers: but for others it is gathered with out judgment.23 Le champ que travaille le pauvre lui donne bien à manger; un autre dépérit faute de justice.
He that spareth the rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him correcteth him betimes.24 Ne pas user du fouet, c’est ne pas aimer son fils: celui qui l’aime n’attend pas pour le corriger.
The just eateth and filleth his soul: but the belly of the wicked is never to be filled.25 Le juste mange à son appétit; le ventre des méchants crie famine.
