2 The mercies of the Lord I will sing for ever. I will shew forth thy truth with my mouth to generation and generation.	2 Von den Hulderweisen des Herrn will ich ewig singen, von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht deine Treue künden mit vollem Munde!
3 For thou hast said: Mercy shall be built up for ever in the heavens: thy truth shall be prepared in them.	3 Ja, ich erkläre: Für ewig ist Huld errichtet, am Himmel steht fest deine Treue!
4 I have made a covenant with my elect: I have sworn to David my servant:	4 "Ich schloß einen Bund mit meinem Erwählten, schwur meinem Knechte David:
5 Thy seed will I settle for ever. And I will build up thy throne unto generation and generation.	5 "Ewigen Bestand verleihe ich deinem Stamm und errichte deinen Thron für alle Geschlechter!"" [Zwischenspiel]
6 The heavens shall confess thy wonders, O Lord: and thy truth in the church of the saints.	6 Der Himmel preist, o Herr, deine Wundermacht, deine Treue preist man im Kreis der Heiligen.
7 For who in the clouds can be compared to the Lord: or who among the sons of God shall be like to God?	7 Denn wer in den Wolken kommt dem Herrn gleich, wer ist dem Herrn ähnlich unter den göttlichen Wesen?
8 God, who is glorified in the assembly of the saints: great and terrible above all them that are about him.	8 Ein Gott - gewaltig im Rat der Heiligen, groß und furchtbar über allen, die ihn umgeben!
9 O Lord God of hosts, who is like to thee? thou art mighty, O Lord, and thy truth is round about thee.	9 Herr, Gott der Heerscharen, wer ist wie du? Deine Macht und deine Treue sind rings um dich her.
10 Thou rulest the power of the sea: and appeasest the motion of the waves thereof.	10 Du bändigst des Meeres Übermut, das Toben seiner Wellen beruhigst du.
11 Thou hast humbled the proud one, as one that is slain: with the arm of thy strength thou hast scattered thy enemies.	11 Rahab hast du zertreten wie einen Erschlagenen, mit deinem starken Arm deine Feinde zerstreut.
12 Thine are the heavens, and thine is the earth: the world and the fulness thereof thou hast founded:	12 Dein ist der Himmel, dein auch die Erde; die Welt und was sie erfüllt, du hast sie gegründet.
13 the north and the sea thou hast created. Thabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name:	13 Nord und Süd, du hast sie erschaffen; Tabor und Hermon rühmen deinen Namen.
14 thy arm is with might. Let thy hand be strengthened, and thy right hand exalted:	14 Du hast einen machtvollen Arm, deine Hand ist stark, deine Rechte hoch erhoben.
15 justice and judgment are the preparation of thy throne. Mercy and truth shall go before thy face:	15 Gerechtigkeit und Recht sind deines Thrones Stütze, Huld und Treue treten vor dich hin.
16 blessed is the people that knoweth jubilation. They shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance:	16 Glücklich das Volk, das Jubelruf kennt! Herr, sie wandeln im Licht deines Antlitzes.
17 and in thy name they shall rejoice all the day, and in thy justice they shall be exalted.	17 Über deinen Namen frohlocken sie allezeit, durch deine Güte sind sie erhöht.
18 For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy good pleasure shall our horn be exalted.	18 Denn ihre herrliche Kraft bist du, und durch deine Gnade wächst unsere Stärke.
19 For our protection is of the Lord, and of our king the holy one of Israel.	19 Wahrlich, dem Herrn ist unser Schild zu eigen, dem Heiligen Israels unser König!
20 Then thou spokest in a vision to thy saints, and saidst: I have laid help upon one that is mighty, and have exalted one chosen out of my people.	20 Einst sprachst du im Gesicht zu deinem Frommen und erklärtest: "Ich setze einem Helden die Krone auf, erhöhte einen Erwählten aus dem Volke.
21 I have found David my servant: with my holy oil I have anointed him.	21 Ich fand meinen Knecht David, mit einem heiligen Öl salbte ich ihn.
22 For my hand shall help him: and my arm shall strengthen him.	22 Meine Hand ist beständig mit ihm, ja, mein Arm macht ihn stark.
23 The enemy shall have no advantage over him: nor the son of iniquity have power to hurt him.	23 Kein Feind kann ihn überlisten, kein Ruchloser ihn bezwingen.
24 And I will cut down his enemies before his face; and them that hate him I will put to flight.	24 Ich zerschlage vor ihm seine Feinde, und seine Gegner stoße ich nieder.
25 And my truth and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.	25 Meine Treue und Huld stehen ihm bei, durch meinen Namen wächst seine Stärke.
26 And I will set his hand in the sea; and his right hand in the rivers.	26 Ich lasse ihn seine Hand aufs Meer legen, auf die Ströme seine Rechte.
27 He shall cry out to me: Thou art my father: my God, and the support of my salvation.	27 Er darf zu mir rufen: "Mein Vater bist du, mein Gott und mein rettender Fels!"
28 And I will make him my firstborn, high above the kings of the earth.	28 Ich aber will ihn zum Erstgeborenen machen, zum Höchsten unter den Königen der Erde.
29 I will keep my mercy for him for ever: and my covenant faithful to him.	29 Ewig bewahre ich ihm meine Huld, und mein Bund mit ihm bleibt unverbrüchlich.
30 And I will make his seed to endure for evermore: and his throne as the days of heaven.	30 Ich erhalte seinen Stamm für immer und seinen Thron, solange der Himmel besteht.
31 And if his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments:	31 Wenn seine Söhne mein Gesetz verlassen und nicht nach meinen Geboten wandeln,
32 If they profane my justices: and keep not my commandments:	32 wenn sie meine Satzungen schänden und meine Befehle nicht halten,
33 I will visit their iniquities with a rod: and their sins with stripes.	33 dann strafe ich ihre Schuld mit der Rute, ihre Sünde mit Schlägen.
34 But my mercy I will not take away from him: nor will I suffer my truth to fail.	34 Doch meine Huld entziehe ich ihm nie und verleugne nicht meine Treue.
35 Neither will I profane my covenant: and the words that proceed from my mouth I will not make void.	35 Meinen Bund werde ich nimmer entweihen, das Wort meiner Lippen nicht ändern.
36 Once have I sworn by my holiness: I will not lie unto David:	36 Dies eine schwur ich bei meiner Heiligkeit und werde David gewiß nicht täuschen:
37 his seed shall endure for ever.	37 "Sein Stamm soll bestehen für ewig, sein Thron vor mir wie die Sonne,
38 And his throne as the sun before me: and as the moon perfect for ever, and a faithful witness in heaven.	38 wie der Mond, der ewig von Dauer ist und ein zuverlässiger Zeuge sei in den Wolken!"" [Zwischenspiel]
39 But thou hast rejected and despised: thou hast been angry with thy anointed.	39 Dennoch hast du selbst verstoßen und verworfen, deinen Gesalbten mit Zorn überhäuft.
40 Thou hast overthrown the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his sanctuary on the earth.	40 Du hast den Bund mit deinem Knecht gelöst, seine Krone am Boden entweiht.
41 Thou hast broken down all his hedges: thou hast made his strength fear.	41 Alle seine Mauern rissest du nieder, legtest seine Burgen in Trümmer.
42 All that pass by the way have robbed him: he is become a reproach to his neighbours.	42 Wer immer des Weges kam, raubte ihn aus, Schmach erfuhr er von seinen Nachbarn.
43 Thou hast set up the right hand of them that oppress him: thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.	43 Die Hand seiner Widersacher hast du erhöht, alle seine Feinde mit Freude erfüllt.
44 Thou hast turned away the help of his sword; and hast not assisted him in battle.	44 Du hast sein schützendes Schwert zurückweichen lassen und bist ihm nicht beigestanden im Krieg.
45 Thou hast made his purification to cease: and thou hast cast his throne down to the ground.	45 Du hast sein herrliches Zepter zertrümmert und seinen Thron zu Boden geworfen.
46 Thou hast shortened the days of his time: thou hast covered him with confusion.	46 Du hast seine Jugendzeit verkürzt, hast ihn mit Schande bedeckt. [Zwischenspiel]
47 How long, O Lord, turnest thou away unto the end? shall thy anger burn like fire?	47 Wie lang, o Herr, verbirgst du dich dauernd, lodert wie Feuer dein Zorn?
48 Remember what my substance is for hast thou made all the children of men in vain?	48 Gedenke, wie vergänglich ich bin, wie nichtig du alle Menschen erschufst!
49 Who is the man that shall live, and not see death: that shall deliver his soul from the hand of hell?	49 Wer lebt weiter, ohne den Tod zu schauen? Wer kann sein Leben retten vor dem Zugriff der Totenwelt?
50 Lord, where are thy ancient mercies, according to what thou didst swear to David in thy truth?	50 Wo sind deine früheren Hulderweise, o Herr, die du bei deiner Treue David zugeschworen?
51 Be mindful, O Lord, of the reproach of thy servants (which I have held in my bosom) of many nations:	51 Gedenke, Herr, der Schmach deines Knechtes, die ich von all den vielen Völkern tragen muß in meiner Brust!
52 Wherewith thy enemies have reproached, O Lord; wherewith they have reproached the change of thy anointed.	52 So schmähen deine Feinde, Herr, so schmähen sie deines Gesalbten Schritte. -
53 Blessed be the Lord for evermore. So be it. So be it.	53 Der Herr sei gepriesen in Ewigkeit! Amen. Amen.
