1 A psalm for David himself. Be not emulous of evildoers; nor envy them that work iniquity.	1 Psaume de David. Ne porte pas envie aux méchants, * et ne sois pas jaloux de ceux qui commettent l'iniquité;
2 For they shall shortly wither away as grass, and as the green herbs shall quickly fall.	2 car ils se dessécheront aussi vite que l'herbe, * et, comme les tiges des plantes, ils se faneront promptement.
3 Trust in the Lord, and do good, and dwell in the land, and thou shalt be fed with its riches.	3 Espère au Seigneur, et fais le bien; * alors tu habiteras la terre, et tu te nourriras de ses richesses.
4 Delight in the Lord, and he will give thee the requests of thy heart.	4 Mets tes délices dans le Seigneur, * et il t'accordera ce que ton coeur demande.
5 Commit thy way to the Lord, and trust in him, and he will do it.	5 Découvre au Seigneur ta voie, et espère en Lui, * et Lui-même Il agira.
6 And he will bring forth thy justice as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.	6 Et Il fera éclater ta justice comme la lumière, et ton droit comme le soleil à son midi.*
7 Be subject to the Lord and pray to him Envy not the man who prospereth in his way; the man who doth unjust things.	7 Sois soumis au Seigneur, et prie-Le. Ne porte pas envie à celui qui réussit dans sa voie, * à l'homme qui commet des injustices.
8 Cease from anger, and leave rage; have no emulation to do evil.	8 Laisse la colère, et abandonne la fureur; * n'aie pas d'envie, ce serait mal faire.
9 For the evildoers shall be cut off : but they that wait upon the Lord shall inherit the land.	9 Car les méchants seront exterminés; * mais ceux qui attendent patiemment le Seigneur auront la terre en héritage.
10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be : and thou shalt seek his place, and shalt not find it.	10 Encore un peu de temps, et le pécheur ne sera plus; * et tu chercheras sa place, et tu ne la trouveras pas.
11 But the meek shall inherit the land, and shall delight in abundance of peace.	11 Mais les doux posséderont la terre, * et ils se délecteront dans l'abondance de la paix.
12 The sinner shall watch the just man : and shall gnash upon him with his teeth.	12 Le pécheur observera le juste, * et il grincera des dents contre lui.
13 But the Lord shall laugh at him : for he foreseeth that his day shall come.	13 Mais le Seigneur Se rira de lui, * parce qu'il voit que Son jour viendra.
14 The wicked have drawn out the sword : they have bent their bow. To cast down the poor and needy, to kill the upright of heart.	14 Les pécheurs ont tiré le glaive, * ils ont tendu leur arc, pour renverser le pauvre et l'indigent, * pour égorger ceux qui ont le coeur droit.
15 Let their sword enter into their own hearts, and let their bow be broken.	15 Que leur glaive perce leur propre coeur, * et que leur arc soit brisé.
16 Better is a little to the just, than the great riches of the wicked.	16 Mieux vaut le peu du juste * que les grandes richesses des pécheurs;
17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken in pieces; but the Lord strengtheneth the just.	17 car les bras des pécheurs seront brisés, * mais le Seigneur affermit les justes.
18 The Lord knoweth the days of undefiled; and their inheritance shall be for ever.	18 Le Seigneur connaît les jours des hommes sans tache, * et leur héritage sera éternel.
19 They shall not be confounded in the evil time; and in the days of famine they shall be filled :	19 Ils ne seront pas confondus au temps du malheur, et aux jours de famine ils seront rassasiés,*
20 because the wicked shall perish. And the enemies of the Lord, presently after they shall be honoured and exalted, shall come to nothing and vanish like smoke.	20 parce que les pécheurs périront. Mais les ennemis du Seigneur n'auront pas plus tôt été honorés et élevés, * qu'ils tomberont et s'évanouiront comme la fumée.
21 The sinner shall borrow, and not pay again; but the just sheweth mercy and shall give.	21 Le pécheur empruntera et ne payera point; * mais le juste est compatissant et il donne.
22 For such as bless him shall inherit the land : but such as curse him shall perish.	22 Car ceux qui bénissent Dieu posséderont la terre; * mais ceux qui Le maudissent périront.
23 With the Lord shall the steps of a man be directed, and he shall like well his way.	23 Les pas de l'homme seront dirigés par le Seigneur, * et il prendra plaisir à sa voie.
24 When he shall fall he shall not be bruised, for the Lord putteth his hand under him.	24 Lorsqu'il tombera, il ne se brisera pas, * car le Seigneur le soutient de Sa main.
25 I have been young, and now am old; and I have not seen the just forsaken, nor his seed seeking bread.	25 J'ai été jeune, et j'ai vieilli; * mais je n'ai pas vu le juste abandonné, ni sa race mendiant du pain.
26 He sheweth mercy, and lendeth all the day long; and his seed shall be in blessing.	26 Tout le jour il est compatissant et il prête, * et sa race sera en bénédiction.
27 Decline from evil and do good, and dwell for ever and ever.	27 Détourne-toi du mal et fais le bien, * et possède une demeure éternelle.
28 For the Lord loveth judgment, and will not forsake his saints : they shall be preserved for ever. The unjust shall be punished, and the seed of the wicked shall perish.	28 Car le Seigneur aime l'équité, et Il n'abandonnera pas Ses saints; * ils seront gardés éternellement. Les méchants seront punis, * et la race des impies périra.
29 But the just shall inherit the land, and shall dwell therein for evermore.	29 Mais les justes posséderont la terre, * et ils y habiteront à jamais.
30 The mouth of the just shall meditate wisdom : and his tongue shall speak judgment.	30 La bouche du juste méditera la sagesse, * et sa langue proférera l'équité.
31 The law of his God is in his heart, and his steps shall not be supplanted.	31 La loi de son Dieu est dans son coeur, * et on ne le renversera point.
32 The wicked watcheth the just man, and seeketh to put him to death,	32 Le pécheur observe le juste, * et il cherche à le mettre à mort.
33 But the Lord will not leave in his hands; nor condemn him when he shall be judged.	33 Mais le Seigneur ne l'abandonnera point entre ses mains, * et ne le condamnera pas lorsqu'il sera jugé.
34 Expect the Lord and keep his way : and he will exalt thee to inherit the land : when the sinners shall perish thou shalt see.	34 Attends le Seigneur et garde Sa voie; et Il t'élèvera, pour que tu possèdes la terre en héritage. * Quand les pécheurs périront, tu verras.
35 I have seen the wicked highly exalted, and lifted up like the cedars of Libanus.	35 J'ai vu l'impie grandement exalté, * et élevé comme les cèdres du Liban.
36 And I passed by, and lo, he was not : and I sought him and his place was not found.	36 Et j'ai passé, et déjà il n'était plus; * et je l'ai cherché, mais on n'a pu trouver sa place.
37 Keep innocence, and behold justice : for there are remnants for the peaceable man.	37 Garde l'innocence, et n'aie en vue que l'équité, * car des biens resteront à l'homme pacifique.
38 But the unjust shall be destroyed together : the remnants of the wicked shall perish.	38 Mais les injustes périront tous ensemble; * ce que les impies auront laissé disparaîtra.
39 But the salvation of the just is from the Lord, and he is their protector in the time of trouble.	39 Mais le salut des justes vient du Seigneur, * et Il est leur protecteur au temps de la tribulation.
40 And the Lord will help them and deliver them : and he will rescue them from the wicked, and save them, because they have hoped in him.	40 Le Seigneur les assistera, et les délivrera; * Il les arrachera des mains des pécheurs, et Il les sauvera, parce qu'ils ont espéré en Lui.
