DIODATI	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 E GIOBBE rispose, e disse:	1 Then Job answered by saying:
2 Ancor oggi il mio lamento è ribellione; Benchè la mia piaga sia aggravata sopra i miei sospiri.	2 Now again my conversation is in bitterness, and the force of my scourging weighs more heavily on me because of my mourning.
3 Oh! sapessi io pure ove trovare Iddio! Io andrei infino al suo trono;	3 Who will grant me that I might know and find him, and that I may approach even to his throne?
4 Io sporrei per ordine la mia ragione nel suo cospetto, Ed empierei la mia bocca di argomenti;	4 I would place judgment before his eye, and my mouth would fill with criticism,
5 Io saprei le parole ch’egli mi risponderebbe, E intenderei ciò ch’egli mi direbbe.	5 so that I may know the words that he will answer me and understand what he will say to me.
6 Contenderebbe egli meco con grandezza di forza? No; anzi egli avrebbe riguardo a me.	6 I do not want him to contend with me with much strength, nor to overwhelm me with the bulk of his greatness.
7 Ivi l’uomo diritto verrebbe a ragione con lui, Ed io sarei in perpetuo liberato dal mio giudice	7 Let him show fairness in response to me, and let my judgment reach to victory.
8 Ecco, se io vo innanzi, egli non vi è; Se indietro, io non lo scorgo;	8 If I go to the east, he does not appear; if I go to the west, I will not understand him.
9 Se a man sinistra, quando egli opera, io nol veggo; Se a man destra, egli si nasconde, ed io non posso vederlo.	9 If I turn to the left, what can I do? I will not take hold of him. If I turn myself to the right, I will not see him.
10 Quando egli avrà conosciuta la mia via, E mi avrà esaminato, io uscirò fuori come oro.	10 Truly, he knows my way and has tested me like gold that passes through fire.
11 Il mio piè si è attenuto alle sue pedate; Io ho guardata la sua via, e non me ne son rivolto.	11 My feet have been following his footsteps; I have kept to his way and have not strayed from it.
12 Ed anche non ho rimosso d’innanzi a me il comandamento delle sue labbra; Io ho riposte appo me le parole della sua bocca, Più caramente che la mia provvisione ordinaria	12 I have not withdrawn from the commands of his lips, and the words of his mouth I have hidden in my sinews.
13 Ma, se egli è in un proponimento, chi ne lo storrà? Se l’anima sua desidera di fare una cosa, egli la farà.	13 For he is alone, and no one is able to disturb his intention; and whatever his spirit wills, that he accomplishes.
14 Egli certo compierà ciò ch’egli ha statuito di me; E molte tali cose sono appo lui.	14 And when he fulfills his will in me, many other similar ones will also be present with him.
15 Perciò io sono smarrito per cagion di lui; Se io ci penso, io ho spavento di lui.	15 And, for this reason, I have been troubled at his presence, and, when I consider him, I am approached by fear.
16 Certo Iddio mi ha fatto struggere il cuore, E l’Onnipotente mi ha conturbato.	16 God has weakened my heart, and the Almighty has confused me.
17 Perchè non sono io stato troncato, per non veder le tenebre? E perchè ha egli nascosta l’oscurità d’innanzi a me?	17 Yet I have not perished because of the threatening darkness, nor has gloom covered my face.
