| 1 Tu però insegna quello che è conforme alla sana dottrina. | 1 But as for you, teach what befits sound doctrine. |
| 2 Gli uomini anziani siano sobri, dignitosi, saggi, saldi nella fede, nella carità e nella pazienza. | 2 Bid the older men be temperate, serious, sensible, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness. |
| 3 Anche le donne anziane abbiano un comportamento santo: non siano maldicenti né schiave del vino; sappiano piuttosto insegnare il bene, | 3 Bid the older women likewise to be reverent in behavior, not to be slanderers or slaves to drink; they are to teach what is good, |
| 4 per formare le giovani all’amore del marito e dei figli, | 4 and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, |
5 a essere prudenti, caste, dedite alla famiglia, buone, sottomesse ai propri mariti, perché la parola di Dio non venga screditata.
| 5 to be sensible, chaste, domestic, kind, and submissive to their husbands, that the word of God may not be discredited. |
| 6 Esorta ancora i più giovani a essere prudenti, | 6 Likewise urge the younger men to control themselves. |
| 7 offrendo te stesso come esempio di opere buone: integrità nella dottrina, dignità, | 7 Show yourself in all respects a model of good deeds, and in your teaching show integrity, gravity, |
| 8 linguaggio sano e irreprensibile, perché il nostro avversario resti svergognato, non avendo nulla di male da dire contro di noi. | 8 and sound speech that cannot be censured, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say of us. |
| 9 Esorta gli schiavi a essere sottomessi ai loro padroni in tutto; li accontentino e non li contraddicano, | 9 Bid slaves to be submissive to their masters and to give satisfaction in every respect; they are not to be refractory, |
10 non rubino, ma dimostrino fedeltà assoluta, per fare onore in tutto alla dottrina di Dio, nostro salvatore.
| 10 nor to pilfer, but to show entire and true fidelity, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior. |
| 11 È apparsa infatti la grazia di Dio, che porta salvezza a tutti gli uomini | 11 For the grace of God has appeared for the salvation of all men, |
| 12 e ci insegna a rinnegare l’empietà e i desideri mondani e a vivere in questo mondo con sobrietà, con giustizia e con pietà, | 12 training us to renounce irreligion and worldly passions, and to live sober, upright, and godly lives in this world, |
| 13 nell’attesa della beata speranza e della manifestazione della gloria del nostro grande Dio e salvatore Gesù Cristo. | 13 awaiting our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, |
14 Egli ha dato se stesso per noi, per riscattarci da ogni iniquità e formare per sé un popolo puro che gli appartenga, pieno di zelo per le opere buone.
| 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all iniquity and to purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous for good deeds. |
| 15 Questo devi insegnare, raccomandare e rimproverare con tutta autorità. Nessuno ti disprezzi! | 15 Declare these things; exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you. |
