EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 No te fíes de tus riquezas ni digas: «Con esto me basta».	1 Do not put your confidence in your money or say, 'With this I am self-sufficient.'
2 No dejes que tu deseo y tu fuerza te lleven a obrar según tus caprichos.	2 Do not be led by your appetites and energy to follow the passions of your heart.
3 No digas: «¿Quién podrá dominarme?», porque el Señor da a cada uno su merecido.	3 And do not say, 'Who has authority over me?' for the Lord will certainly give you your deserts.
4 No digas: «Pequé, ¿y qué me sucedió?, porque el Señor es paciente.	4 Do not say, 'I have sinned, but what harm has befal en me?' for the Lord's forbearance is long.
5 No estés tan seguro del perdón, mientras cometes un pecado tras otro.	5 Do not be so sure of forgiveness that you add sin to sin.
6 No digas: «Su compasión es grande; él perdonará la multitud de mis pecados», porque en él está la misericordia, pero también la ira, y su indignación recae sobre los pecadores.	6 And do not say, 'His compassion is great, he will forgive me my many sins'; for with him are both mercyand retribution, and his anger does not pass from sinners.
7 No tardes en volver al Señor, dejando pasar un día tras otro, porque la ira del Señor irrumpirá súbitamente y perecerás en el momento del castigo.	7 Do not delay your return to the Lord, do not put it off day after day; for suddenly the Lord's wrath wilblaze out, and on the day of punishment you wil be utterly destroyed.
8 No te fíes de las riquezas adquiridas injustamente: de nada te servirán en el día de la desgracia.	8 Do not set your heart on il -gotten gains, they wil be of no use to you on the day of disaster.
9 No te dejes llevar por todos los vientos ni vayas por cualquier camino: así obra el pecador que habla con doblez.	9 Do not winnow in every wind, or walk along every by-way (as the double-talking sinner does).
10 Sé firme en tus convicciones y que tu palabra sea una sola.	10 Be steady in your convictions, and be a person of your word.
11 Está siempre dispuesto a escuchar y sé lento para responder.	11 Be quick to listen, and deliberate in giving an answer.
12 Si sabes, responde a tu prójimo; de lo contrario, quédate callado.	12 If you understand the matter, give your neighbour an answer, if not, keep your hand over your mouth.
13 Las palabras traen gloria o deshonor, y la lengua del hombre puede provocar su caída.	13 Both honour and disgrace come from talking, the tongue is its owner's downfal .
14 Que no tengan que llamarte chismoso, y no seas insidioso al hablar, porque la vergüenza pesa sobre el ladrón y una severa condena sobre el que habla con doblez.	14 Do not get a name for scandal-mongering, do not set traps with your tongue; for as shame lies in storefor the thief, so harsh condemnation awaits the deceitful.
15 No faltes ni en lo grande ni en lo pequeño, y de amigo, no te vuelvas enemigo,	15 Avoid offences in great as in smal matters, and do not exchange friendship for enmity,
