Proverbios 21

EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 El corazón del rey es una corriente de agua en manos del Señor: él lo dirige hacia donde quiere.	1 Just as with the dividing of the waters, so also is the heart of the king in the hand of the Lord. He shall bend it whichever way he wills.
2 Al hombre le parece que todo su camino es recto, pero el Señor pesa los corazones.	2 Every way of a man seems right to himself. But the Lord weighs hearts.
3 Practicar la justicia y el derecho agrada al Señor más que los sacrificios.	3 To do mercy and judgment is more pleasing to the Lord than sacrifices.
4 Los ojos altaneros, el corazón arrogante, la luz de los malvados: todo eso es pecado.	4 To lift up the eyes is to enlarge the heart. The lamp of the impious is sin.
5 Los proyectos del hombre laborioso son pura ganancia, el que se precipita acaba en la indigencia.	5 The intentions of the robust continually bring forth abundance. But all the lazy are continually in need.
6 Tesoros adquiridos con engaños son ilusión fugaz de los que buscan la muerte.	6 Whoever gathers treasures by a lying tongue is vain and heartless. And he will stumble into the snares of death.
7 La rapiña de los malvados los arrastra a ellos mismos, porque se niegan a practicar el derecho.	7 The robberies of the impious will drag them down, because they were not willing to do judgment.
8 Tortuoso es el camino del criminal, pero el que es puro obra con rectitud.	8 The perverse way of a man is foreign. But whoever is pure: his work is upright.
9 Más vale habitar en un rincón del techo que compartir la casa con una mujer pendenciera.	9 It is better to sit in a corner of the attic, than with a contentious woman and in a shared house.
10 El alma del malvado desea el mal, él no se apiada de su prójimo.	10 The soul of the impious desires evil; he will not take pity on his neighbor.
11 El simple se hace sabio cuando se castiga al insolente, y asimila la ciencia cuando se instruye al sabio.	11 When the pestilent is punished, a little one will become wiser. And if he pursues what is wise, he will receive knowledge.
12 El justo observa la casa del malvado, y precipita en la desgracia a los malos.	12 The just thinks carefully about the house of the impious, so that he may draw the impious away from evil.
13 El que cierra los oídos al clamor del débil llamará y no se le responderá.	13 Whoever blocks his ears to the outcry of the poor shall also cry out himself, and he will not be heeded.
14 Un reglo hecho a escondidas aplaca la ira y un obsequio bajo cuerda, la furia violenta.	14 A surprise gift extinguishes anger. And a gift concealed in the bosom extinguishes the greatest indignation.
15 Practicar la justicia es una alegría para el justo, pero es una calamidad para los malhechores.	15 It is gladness for the just to do judgment; and it is dread for those who work iniquity.
16 El que se extravía del camino de la prudencia descansará en la Asamblea de las Sombras.	16 A man who wanders astray from the way of doctrine will linger in the company of the giants.
17 El que ama el placer termina en la indigencia, el que ama el vino y la buena vida no se enriquecerá.	17 Whoever loves a feast will be in deprivation. Whoever loves wine and fatness will not be enriched.
18 El malvado servirá de rescate por el justo y el traidor, por los hombres rectos.	18 The impious is given over instead of the just, and the iniquitous is given over in place of the upright.
19 Más vale habitar en un país desierto que con una mujer pendenciera y de mal genio.	19 It is better to live in a deserted land, than with a quarrelsome and emotional woman.
20 En la morada del sabio hay tesoros preciosos y perfume, pero el necio se los devora.	20 There is desirable treasure, as well as oil, in the habitations of the just. And the imprudent man will waste it.
21 El que va tras la justicia y la fidelidad encontrará vida, justicia y honor.	21 Whoever follows justice and mercy shall discover life, justice, and glory.
22 El sabio toma por asalto una ciudad de valientes, y abate la fuerza en que ella confiaba.	22 The wise has ascended the city of the strong, and he has torn down the bulwark of its confidence.
23 El que guarda su boca y su lengua guarda su vida de las angustias.	23 Whoever guards his mouth and his tongue guards his soul from anguish.
24 Insolente se lama al arrogante y altanero que actúa con excesiva soberbia.	24 A proud and arrogant one is also called ignorant, if he, in anger, acts according to pride.
25 El deseo mata al perezoso, porque sus manos se niegan a trabajar.	25 Desires kill the lazy, for his hands are not willing to work at all.
26 El malvado ambiciona todo el día, pero el justo da sin rehusar jamás.	26 He covets and desires all day long. But whoever is just shall distribute and shall not cease.
27 El sacrificio de los malvados es una abominación, ¡cuánto más si se lo ofrece con infamia!	27 The sacrifices of the impious are abominable, because they are offered out of wickedness.
28 El testigo mentiroso perecerá, pero el hombre que escucha, siempre podrá hablar.	28 A lying witness will perish. An obedient man shall speak of victory.
29 El malvado se muestra atrevido, pero el que es recto afianza su camino.	29 The impious man insolently hardens his face. But whoever is upright corrects his own way.
30 No hay sabiduría, ni inteligencia, ni consejo delante del Señor.	30 There is no wisdom, there is no prudence, there is no counsel, which is against the Lord.
31 Se equipa el caballo para el día del combate, pero la victoria pertenece al Señor.	31 The horse is prepared for the day of battle. But the Lord bestows salvation.
