BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 « Per questo il mio cuore tremò e balzò fuori dal suo posto.	1 At this, my very heart quakes and leaps out of its place.
2 Udite, udite tra lo spavento la sua voce, e il rombo che vien fuori dalla sua bocca!	2 Listen, oh listen, to the blast of his voice and the sound that issues from his mouth.
3 Egli gira il suo sguardo sotto tutti i cieli, e la sua luce va fino all'estremità della terra.	3 His lightning is hurled across the heaven, it strikes to the extremities of earth.
4 Dietro di lui rugge il suono, egli tuona colla voce della sua grandezza; e udita la sua voce, non si potrà seguirne la traccia.	4 After it comes a roaring sound, God thunders with majestic voice. He does not check his thunderboltsuntil his voice resounds no more.
5 Dio tonerà mirabilmente colla sua voce. Egli fa grandi e imperscrutabili cose.	5 Yes, certainly God shows us marvels and does great deeds that we cannot understand.
6 Egli comanda alla neve di cadere sulla terra, alle piogge invernali, alle impetuose procelle.	6 When he says to the snow, 'Fal on the earth!' to the showers, 'Now rain hard!'
7 Egli mette un sigillo sulla mano d'ogni uomo, affinchè ciascuno conosca le sue opere.	7 he brings al human activity to a standstil , for everyone to acknowledge his work.
8 La fiera si ritira nella sua tana, e sta ferma nel suo covile.	8 The animals go back to their dens and take shelter in their lairs.
9 La tempesta esce dai recessi, il freddo dal settentrione.	9 The storm wind comes from the Mansion of the South, and the north winds usher in the cold.
10 Al soffio di Dio il ghiaccio s'indurisce, e di nuovo si sciolgono in abbondanza le nevi,	10 At the breath of God, ice comes next, the surface of the waters hardens over.
11 il frumento brama le nuvole, e le nuvole spandono la loro luce.	11 He weighs the clouds down with moisture, and the storm clouds radiate his lightning.
12 ESse vanno errando all'intorno, dovunque le guidi il volere di Colui che le governa, per eseguire i suoi ordini sulla superficie della terra,	12 He himself guides their wheeling motion presiding over their seasonal changes. They carry out hisorders to the letter al over this earthly world.
13 sia in una tribù, sia nella sua terra, sia in qualche altro luogo in cui la sua misericordia avrà loro ordinato di trovarsi.	13 Whether to punish earth's peoples or as a work of faithful love, he despatches them.
14 Ascolta, o Giobbe, queste cose, fermati a considerare le maraviglie di Dio.	14 Listen to this, Job, without flinching and reflect on the marvel ous works of God.
15 Sai forse quando Dio abbia comandato alle piogge di far apparire la luce delle sue nuvole?	15 Do you know how God controls them or how his clouds make the lightning flash?
16 Hai tu conosciute le grandi vie delle nubi e le scienze perfette?	16 Do you know how he balances the clouds -- a miracle of consummate skil ?
17 Non sono forse calde le tue vesti quando l'austro soffia sopra la terra?	17 When your clothes are hot to your body and the earth lies stil under the south wind,
18 Hai forse con lui fabbricati i cieli, che sono saldissimi come se fossero gettati in bronzo?	18 can you, like him, stretch out the sky, tempered like a mirror of cast metal?
19 Insegnaci quello che potremo dirgli, giacché noi siamo involti nelle tenebre.	19 Teach me what we should say to him: but better discuss no further, since we are in the dark.
20 Chi gli racconterà quello che dico io? Se un uomo ardirà parlargli, resterà annientato.	20 Does he take note when I speak? When human beings give orders, does he take it in?
21 Ma ora gli uomini non vedono la luce; l'aria all'improvviso s'addensa di nubi: il vento che passa le dissiperà.	21 There are times when the light vanishes, behind darkening clouds; then comes the wind, sweepingthem away.
22 L'oro viene dal settentrione, e a Dio si rende lode con timore.	22 and brightness spreads from the north. God is clothed in fearful splendour:
23 Noi non possiamo degnamente arrivare a lui. Egli è grande nella potenza, nel giudizio e nella giustizia, ed è ineffabile.	23 he, Shaddai, is far beyond our reach. Supreme in power, in equity, excel ing in saving justice, yet nooppressor-
24 Per questo gli uomini lo temeranno, e nessuno di quelli che si credono saggi ardirà contemplarlo ».	24 no wonder then that people fear him: everyone thoughtful holds him in awe!
