CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINDOUAI-RHEIMS
Unto the end. For the wine and oil presses. A Psalm of Asaph himself.1 Unto the end, for them that shall he changed, a testimony for Asaph, a psalm.
Exult before God our helper. Sing joyfully to the God of Jacob.2 Give ear, O thou that rulest Israel: thou that leadest Joseph like a sheep. Thou that sittest upon the cherubims, shine forth
Take up a psalm, and bring forth the timbrel: a pleasing Psalter with stringed instruments.3 before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasses. Stir up thy might, and come to save us.
Sound the trumpet at the new moon, on the noteworthy day of your solemnity,4 Convert us, O God: and shew us thy face, and we shall be saved.
for it is a precept in Israel and a judgment for the God of Jacob.5 O Lord God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy servant?
He set it as a testimony with Joseph, when he went out of the land of Egypt. He heard a tongue that he did not know.6 How long wilt thou feed us with the bread of tears: and give us for our drink tears in measure?
He turned the burdens away from his back. His hands had been a slave to baskets.7 Thou hast made us to be a contradiction to our neighbours: and our enemies have scoffed at us.
You called upon me in tribulation, and I freed you. I heard you within the hidden tempest. I tested you with waters of contradiction.8 O God of hosts, convert us: and shew thy face, and we shall be saved.
My people, listen and I will call you to testify. If, O Israel, you will pay heed to me,9 Thou hast brought a vineyard out of Egypt: thou hast cast cut the Gentiles and planted it.
then there will be no new god among you, nor will you adore a foreign god.10 Thou wast the guide of its journey in its sight: thou plantedst the roots thereof, and it filled the land.
For I am the Lord your God, who led you out of the land of Egypt. Widen your mouth, and I will fill it.11 The shadow of it covered the hills: and the branches thereof the cedars of God.
But my people did not hear my voice, and Israel was not attentive to me.12 It stretched forth its branches unto the sea, and its boughs unto the river.
And so, I sent them away, according to the desires of their heart. They will go forth according to their own inventions.13 Why hast thou broken down the hedge thereof, so that all they who pass by the way do pluck it?
If my people had heard me, if Israel had walked in my ways,14 The boar out of the wood hath laid it waste: and a singular wild beast hath devoured it.
I would have humbled their enemies, as if it were nothing, and I would have sent my hand upon those who troubled them.15 Turn again, O God of hosts, look down from heaven, and see, and visit this vineyard:
The enemies of the Lord have lied to him, and their time will come, in every age.16 And perfect the same which thy right hand hath planted: and upon the son of man whom thou hast confirmed for thyself.
And he fed them from the fat of the grain, and he saturated them with honey from the rock.17 Things set on fire and dug down shall perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.
Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand: and upon the son of man whom thou hast confirmed for thyself.
And we depart not from thee, thou shalt quicken us: and we will call upon thy name.
O Lord God of hosts, convert us: and shew thy face, and we shall be saved.
