Unto the end. A Psalm of David.1 [For the choirmaster Of David Psalm] Yahweh, you examine me and know me,
Rescue me, O Lord, from the evil man. Rescue me from the iniquitous leader.2 you know when I sit, when I rise, you understand my thoughts from afar.
Those who have devised iniquities in their hearts: all day long they constructed conflicts.3 You watch when I walk or lie down, you know every detail of my conduct.
They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. The venom of asps is under their lips.4 A word is not yet on my tongue before you, Yahweh, know all about it.
Preserve me, O Lord, from the hand of the sinner, and rescue me from men of iniquity. They have decided to supplant my steps.5 You fence me in, behind and in front, you have laid your hand upon me.
The arrogant have hidden a snare for me. And they have stretched out cords for a snare. They have placed a stumbling block for me near the road.6 Such amazing knowledge is beyond me, a height to which I cannot attain.
I said to the Lord: You are my God. O Lord, heed the voice of my supplication.7 Where shall I go to escape your spirit? Where shall I flee from your presence?
Lord, O Lord, the strength of my salvation: you have overshadowed my head in the day of war.8 If I scale the heavens you are there, if I lie flat in Sheol, there you are.
O Lord, do not hand me over to the sinner by my desire. They have plotted against me. Do not abandon me, lest they should triumph.9 If I speed away on the wings of the dawn, if I dwel beyond the ocean,
The head of those who encompass me, the labor of their lips, will overwhelm them.10 even there your hand will be guiding me, your right hand holding me fast.
Burning coals will fall upon them. You will cast them down into the fire, into miseries that they will not be able to withstand.11 I will say, 'Let the darkness cover me, and the night wrap itself around me,'
A talkative man will not be guided aright upon the earth. Evils will drag the unjust man unto utter ruin.12 even darkness to you is not dark, and night is as clear as the day.
I know that the Lord will accomplish justice for the needy and vindication for the poor.13 You created my inmost self, knit me together in my mother's womb.
So then, truly, the just will confess your name, and the upright will dwell with your countenance.14 For so many marvels I thank you; a wonder am I, and al your works are wonders. You knew methrough and through,
my being held no secrets from you, when I was being formed in secret, textured in the depths of theearth.
Your eyes could see my embryo. In your book all my days were inscribed, every one that was fixedis there.
How hard for me to grasp your thoughts, how many, God, there are!
If I count them, they are more than the grains of sand; if I come to an end, I am stil with you.
If only, God, you would kil the wicked!-Men of violence, keep away from me!-
those who speak blasphemously about you, and take no account of your thoughts.
Yahweh, do I not hate those who hate you, and loathe those who defy you?
My hate for them has no limits, I regard them as my own enemies.
God, examine me and know my heart, test me and know my concerns.
Make sure that I am not on my way to ruin, and guide me on the road of eternity.
