Job 7

The life of a man on the earth is a battle, and his days are like the days of a hired hand.1 ¿No es acaso milicia la vida del hombre sobre la tierra, | y sus días como los de un jornalero?;
Just as a servant desires the shade, and just as the hired hand looks forward to the end of his work,2 como el esclavo, suspira por la sombra; | como el jornalero, aguarda su salario.
so also have I had empty months and have counted my burdensome nights.3 Mi herencia han sido meses baldíos, | me han asignado noches de fatiga.
If I lie down to sleep, I will say, “When will I rise?” And next I will hope for the evening and will be filled with sorrows even until darkness.4 Al acostarme pienso: ¿Cuándo me levantaré? | Se me hace eterna la noche | y me harto de dar vueltas hasta el alba;
My flesh is clothed with particles of rottenness and filth; my skin is dried up and tightened.5 me tapo con gusanos y terrones, | la piel se me rompe y me supura.
My days have passed by more quickly than threads are cut by a weaver, and they have been consumed without any hope.6 Corren mis días más que la lanzadera, | se van consumiendo faltos de esperanza.
Remember that my life is wind, and my eye will not return to see good things.7 Recuerda que mi vida es un soplo, | que mis ojos no verán más la dicha.
Neither will the sight of man gaze upon me; your eyes are upon me, and I will not endure.8 Los ojos que me ven no me verán, | cuando me mires tú, ya no estaré.
Just as a cloud is consumed and passes away, so he who descends to hell will not ascend.9 Como la nube pasa y se disipa, | el que baja al Abismo ya no sube;
He will not return again to his house, nor will his own place know him any longer.10 no vuelve a su casa, | su morada no lo reconoce.
And because of this, I will not restrain my mouth. I will speak in the affliction of my spirit. I will converse from the bitterness of my soul.11 Por eso no frenaré mi lengua, | hablará mi espíritu angustiado, | me quejaré repleto de amargura.
Am I an ocean or a whale, that you have encircled me in a prison?12 ¿Soy acaso el Mar o el Dragón | para que tú me pongas un guardián?
If I say, “My bed will comfort me, and I will find rest, speaking with myself on my blanket,”13 Cuando pienso que el lecho me aliviará, | que la cama acallará mis quejidos,
then you will frighten me with dreams, and strike dread through visions,14 entonces me espantas con sueños, | entonces me atemorizas con pesadillas.
so that, because of these things, my soul would choose hanging, and my bones, death.15 Preferiría acabar asfixiado, | la muerte antes que esta existencia.
I despair; by no means will I live any longer. Spare me, for my days are nothing.16 Me consumo; no he de vivir eternamente, | déjame tranquilo, mis días son un soplo.
What is man, that you should praise him? Or why do you place your heart near him?17 ¿Qué es el hombre para que te ocupes tanto de él, | para que pongas en él tu interés,
You visit him at dawn, and you test him unexpectedly.18 para que le pases revista por la mañana | y lo examines a cada momento?
How long will you not spare me, nor release me to ingest my saliva?19 ¿Por qué no apartas de mí la vista | y no me dejas ni tragar saliva?
I have sinned; what should I do for you, O keeper of men? Why have you set me against you, so that I have become burdensome even to myself?20 Si he pecado, ¿en qué te afecta, | Guardián de los humanos? | ¿Por qué me has tomado como blanco | y me he convertido en tu carga?
Why do you not steal away my sin, and why do you not sweep away my iniquity? Behold, now I will sleep in the dust, and if you seek me in the morning, I will not remain.21 ¿Por qué no perdonas mi delito | y pasas por alto mi culpa? | Pues pronto me acostaré en el polvo, | me buscarás, pero no existiré».
